This letter is about a court case in which a man takes to court for stealing cattle and sheep. These were later allowed to be kept on the common land. We thought the letter and seal were fascinating and gave us a real insight into how complaints against people were dealt with. We learned that the Queen had the power to make laws and decisions which our Queen today doesn't have to the same extent today. We learned how people kept their animals more publicly than today, and were a much more precious commodity as they were often the only income for the livestock holder. We were amazed that the seal was intact and found it's size and appearance very impressive. The letters and seals were rescued when offices in Portman Square were being cleared, and have since been treasured by the Farrier family.
