I'm not really sure of the story behind this Suffragette Brooch but it's been in the family for a number of years. It was my dear friend, a curator at Down County Museum in Downpatrick, who spotted it on my lapel and told me of its significance. We don't think any member of our family was directly involved in the internationally significant Suffragette movement but it's great to know that there is some sort of link. I still wear the brooch with pride - it means an awful lot to me, especially now I know its significance. My daughters are also very interested in it. Contributed by Valerie McMullan.
