This Egyptian artefact originally came to the Museum described as a necklace. There were doubts about this description however as in Egypt during the 19th and early 20th centuries, fragments of mummy nets were regularly restrung into necklaces for the tourist market. Conservation work to detangle, secure and map the artefact enabled us to uncover its true identity as a Funerary Net. It's an interesting story and a wonderful relic from a civilisation that continues to fascinate.
