This scarf was found wrapped around the spokes of a bike; the rider cleaned up the scarf and passed it on to his daughter Hillary, who brought it along to the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Tees A History of the World event.

It's a print of a poem by Rudyard Kipling along with music for a song referencing the second Boer War and Queen Victoria. Scarves of this style would originally have been produced in number and sold outside music halls to make a little money from the audience who would take them home to learn the words and music of the songs they had just heard. The scarf would originally been printed in black but the washing process has turned the ink colour blue.

This object is well preserved and has been kept in a box for fifty years.
