Cloured polyethelene toy

Polyethelene was discovered by ICI Ltd in Manchester and used for the first time as insulators and moulded connectors for the first radar transmitters developed by my late father-in-law, Dr. J.M. Dodds at Metropolitan-Vickers Ltd, Trafford Park, Manchester. Virgin polyethelene is a white, waxy solid and it was first coloured at the request of Dr. Dodds to enable different connectors to be distinguished. Scrap remnants from the injection moulded manufacturing process were remade into these disks that were threaded on a string to make a childs toy to stretch across the pram of the baby daughter of Dr. Dodds. This may be one of the first toys made from this material but moulded polyethelene had a major role to play in the success of the first radar transmitters and coloured polyethelene is now universal.
