This stained glass panel shows Elaine with Sir Lancelot's shield, being comforted by her brothers. In Arthurian legend Sir Lancelot was tricked into thinking that Elaine was Guinevere by Elaine's father King Pelles. Elaine loved Lancelot and bore him a son, but the love was unrequited. Elaine has inspired many artists and the couple are also the subject of a poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson. The panel is displayed in the Boyd Dawkins Study at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery. Sir William Boyd Dawkins was a Victorian archaeologist, geologist, collector and a curator at The Manchester Museum. The collections belonging to Boyd Dawkins and his friend and student Dr J. Wilfred Jackson make up the heart of Buxton Museum & Art Gallery's collections.
