Grove Dog Show Poster

This magnificent poster was designed and printed for a dog show which was due to be held at Wantage on Thursday September 7th 1939. Organised by North Berks Agricultural Society, the show was planned to take place at Grove Park and had attracted sponsorship by Spratts dog and puppy food and Jeyes' fluid. What a grand day out it would have been had not World War Two been declared on the 3rd September. The show was cancelled. With the smiling attendant and rows of well groomed dogs, it is a glimpse into a world that was shattered by the outbreak of war.
