People in a Wind - Victoria Art Gallery

The 1950 bronze, 'People in a Wind', shows a group of four linked figures, leaning forwards. Kenneth Armitage was then Head of Sculpture at Bath Academy of Art in Corsham. Working in a tin hut in a cottage garden, Armitage created a highly innovative series of sculptures. The great collector, Peggy Guggenheim, bought another cast of 'People in a Wind' for £195 when it was shown at the prestigious Venice Biennale in 1952. This one purchase gave Armitage international stardom.
