Dave Richards brought in an old, traditional Guernsey milk can with a war story behind it.
The design of the can is unique to Guernsey. The island is home to a breed of cow that produces a high yield of very creamy milk. The breed has been successfully reared in the USA, Australia, South Africa etc since the nineteenth century.
This particular can was taken by Dave's grandmother to Biberach in 1942 when she was deported by the occupying German forces. Biberach was an internment camp to which many were taken from the Bailiwick of Guernsey - mostly those with family connections to the UK.
This can features in a pencil drawing which she made of her billet in the camp. While she was interred, it was used every day. At the end of the war, it came back safely from Germany.
