The Memorials – Bath Abbey

There are over 600 memorials on the walls of the Abbey. One of the earliest is to Richard Chapman, who died in 1572 and was Alderman of Bath. Although many of the memorials are to the rich and famous visitors who came to Bath, they also commemorate ordinary citizens of Bath who lived and worshipped within the parish. There are approximately 800 memorials covered by the pews. The inscriptions are available from the Abbey archives.
