Our quern stone was found two years ago in my Dad's field. We think it is probably from the Iron Age.It was used to grind down grain to make flour for bread. The chips out of it are from where it has been ploughed over through the ages.We do not think it could have been made on Skye because it is made from granite which is not found on Skye. The quern stone weighs about 16kg.Each home would have had a quern stone to grind the grain they had grown. I wonder if there are more quern stones to be found on our land.I find it fascinating to know that so many people through the ages have lived here and worked our land.
