This 'necessaire' tells us about the social history of the late 18th/early 19th century Geogian England. The necessaire has similarities to a swiss army knife in that it has many small compartments inside for example, tweezers, spear etc. Each of the implements is very delicate and they are presented in an ornate box.
These were used by ladies in Georgian England to peel and eat fruit and were particuarly useful while travelling.
