Caroline Herschel's day dress is made in fine muslin with a blue flower pattern and a lace shawl and trim. It is known to have been made and worn by Caroline and apart from its delicate beauty demonstrates her diminutive stature which has been attributed to suffering both smallpox and scarlet fever as a child. The dress is very small and would barely fit an eight year old girl of the present day.
