This plate belongs to my grandad.
It was fixed onto a steam engine that was built in 1923 at Stratford works in London, for the London North Eastern Railway. He inherited it from his father,my great grandad, who got it from his father,my great great grandad. The engine was scrapped in 1948,and thats when my great great grandad bought it in the same year. Then he added it to his collection of plates. So my grandad has loads!
It has been 87 years since it was made.In that time the way trains are powered changed from steam to diesal and finally to electric. It's also changed our way of life as transport has developed and modern life has got faster.
One of the intresting facts about this plate is that the place where it was made is now the site of the 2012 olympic games.
