This horse drawn hearse was made in 1870 almost certainly in London. The glass sided hearse was particularly popular as rather strangely people were always anxious to view the coffin as it was drawn by horses through the streets. A funeral in Wadebridge in 1926 used a very similar glass hearse but on the instructions of the deceased it was not to be pulled by horses or mechanical means. She wished it to be pulled by men to the church and men only were permitted at the funeral.
