This old Genuine Bile Beans tin is part of Neil Grant's collection of about 200.
"When I was a teenager there was a collectors' market at Hitchin in Hertfordshire. I never took much interest in the old tins until my grandfather died and I found his garden shed full of tins, full of screws etc.
"Bile Beans apparently help Biliousness and Headache, Indigestion, Constipation, Piles, Debility, Female Weakness, Dizziness, Sallow Complexion, Pimples, Impure blood and liver, stomach and bowel troubles! This tin cost 5 shillings which was a lot of money in those days. They smell horrible.
"I also have a tin for Dr White's Glasgow Presbyterian Mix, the Tobacco Made Famous by Earl Baldwin [Prime Minister, 1925]."
