This membership badge for the Young Farmers' Club (Nottinghamshire branch) belongs to Mary from Mexborough in South Yorkshire. It dates from the 1950s (probably 1952) when she was 15 years old. Mary's father was President of the Young Farmers' Club in Nottinghamshire and after the war was given an MBE for his effort to help feed the country in wartime. The metal badge shows a horsedrawn plough, sunlight, fields and trees in the background, and crops in the forefront. The Young Farmers' Club preceded membership of the National Farmers Union. Membership covered both sexes were aged 15-21 and were taught how to farm, and about the structure of all types of farm.
