Consequences of uneven development in LICs and HICs

Levels of health vary between different countries and within countries. Many people in developing and emerging countries cannot access safe, clean water, sanitation and good quality housing. They may also face food insecurity. This can lead to higher incidences of disease and lower life expectancies.

People living in developed countries usually have good, clean water supplies, sanitation systems and access to housing. Food insecurity is less widespread. Life expectancy is usually higher and so people in developed countries can expect to live into old age.

There are large variations in wealth between countries and within countries. It鈥檚 estimated that the richest 10% of the world鈥檚 population receives 52% of global income. Meanwhile, the poorest half receives just 8% of global income, according to The World Inequality Report.
