What are the challenges facing the police?
Description
Many members of the public feel that there are not enough police officers on the beat. It is the work of Community Police Officers to patrol a specific geographic location, work with members of the community and provide a human face for the force.
Classroom Ideas
This clip could be used to introduce students to the functions of Community Police Officers. Following the clip, students could construct a spider diagram, entitled 鈥楾he functions of Community Police Officers鈥. Then, students could be encouraged to undertake research within their school and local community into the different views of the work of Community Police Officers. Students could be provided with an investigation question of 鈥楧o you believe there are enough Community Police Officers on the beat?鈥 and survey local residents. Following their research, they could be encouraged to construct bar charts or other diagrams to illustrate their findings. This research may form part of student鈥檚 added value unit research.
