A report on Madrid - the buildings, food and flamenco

Description

On a visit to the Spanish capital Madrid, the presenter describes the many interesting things to see and highlights three 鈥榤ust do鈥 experiences: beautiful buildings, food and flamenco. Watching his report, students learn how The Prado Museum is home to the Spanish Royal Art Collection and that Madrid is full of interesting buildings, some steeped in history and others ultra-modern. The presenter explains the popularity of tapas, which are small savoury dishes of Spanish origin, and how a rhythmic dancing made up of clapping and stamping, known as flamenco, was started by Andaluc铆an gypsies.

Classroom Ideas

Students could be asked to note down the three subheadings that will be detailed in this clip and under each take notes throughout. Students could share the facts they have noted with the class and add any that they have missed. Students could use these notes to write a factual report on Madrid. They could also use their notes to create a tourist information leaflet on the city. Persuasive language could be used to convince tourists to visit this city. Alternatively, students could use this clip as a model to create their own oral or written report on a city or town. It could be their own local area, or somewhere they are studying and researching as part of a topic.
