Doctor Who - creating a character
Description
The writers of ‘Doctor Who’ discuss how to create an interesting and successful character. They explain how the Doctor is a perfect example of a great character, but how his extraordinary mind can make him very difficult to write for. The writers also describe the main characters - The Doctor, Amy and Rory – and explain their different personalities.
Classroom Ideas
Students could brainstorm words which could describe someone’s character and write the most unusual or interesting examples on pieces of paper. Ask each student to pick two or three pieces of paper and use the words as a basis to write a character description. Working in pairs, students could then ask each other questions about their characters. What accent do they have? What do they like to do for fun? What winds them up?
