p.s No one in the office believes meÌýthat we actually balanced the pumpkins on our heads (below!) - Look, I didn't have the time too super-impose that whilst I did the show this morning?
Okay, so it looks like an awful Halloween card or something, but we did have fun balancing pumpkins on our heads this morning in the studio...
Xx
Happy Halloween!
P.S (This is a text we received after we mentione our pumkin shenanigans)

When you work on the radio life is very quick, everything is instant and amazing things pass by quickly (especially at if you work at 1Xtra!). Last night something happened that I think should be reveled in and enjoyed for quite a while yet. 1Xtra's takeover of the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s electric proms kicked some serious butt. The coming together of a full live band and the energy of Dizzee Rascal was a stroke of genius, that not only highlighted the power of collaboration but how a young grime MC from East London could possibly end up changing the face of pop music. If you haven't seen it you need too...
(In the middle of typing this blog entry) I just got distracted by a phone call from one of my friends who said that she watched it on the TV and felt emotional "A real crossover moment..." she said and I couldn't have put it better myself.
Gem Xx
P.S During the preparation to this mighty gig, 1Xtra did what it does best and took over the venue with all sorts of imaginings and happenings. For example... a Q&A session with N-Dubz, some locals and me too, which of course involved some ridiculous hat trying on and they performed a couple of their tunes acoustically.
P.P.S Just got distracted by yet another phone call whilst finishing off this blog... From a 1X exec... "....So.... about...." she said before teasing my brain with ideas for something massive (that I'm not allowed to mention yet! - too find out listen to Trev's show on Sat night!!) we are putting on at the end of November. See what I mean about how quickly it moves.
Riding solo today I invited the lovely ladies form a collective of new fashion designers called , they dressed me up in the spaceÌýof two songs and gave us some tips on how to look exquisite during Autumn and Winter. creation transformed me from a pyjama clad breakfast host into a Rihanna music video extra (I wish!) in two songs (though i did have to change under the desk with the studio blind down whilst the gentlemen in the studio keep their eyes shut, ahhhh fashion!).
Thanks ladies... As you can see VV Brown gatecrashed our picture below! Left to Right:
Click on their names to enjoy their creations. We then had some lovely chats with VV Brown and played her new single 'Game Over'. She was wearing the fluffiest hat of all time so I felt lucky that I wore a coat with the fluffiest of hoods and we had a 'fluff off' for the pic below!

here's one Charmaine from Gosport (1x listener) made earlier.
England and Arsenal legend, Ian Wright, passed through and spoke about football on the internet, Englands shaky defence and as part of Black History Month - we played Wrighty's favourite Stevie Wonder track, "Master Blaster, have a listen
Check out Gemma's new studio winter slippers, Gem I want a pair nd I think Trev should get some too.
Ol' Dev that used to be on 1Xtra who is now on early mornings at Radio 1 got this tattoo beforeÌýhe met me... It TOTALLY freaks us out, genuinely makes us feel weird!? It's meant to be a crying mixed raced cherub... but who does it look like???!!! Xx P.S Apparantly I look like an old woman in this pic - but forgive me, it was 6.30am when I took it!
I was distracted by my horoscope (Pisces) in this morning's newspaper research because for once I felt that I was given some direction in what can quite often be a bit too mystical... This is what the last line read..
'Single? A new partner has your favourite name. You may meet in a Newsagents'.
This led me to read Trev's (Capricorn) and this line stood out..
'The moon is visiting your prize chart to add luckto Lottery tickets and bigo games'.
And so, I nipped out of the show to find my true love and at the same time by Trev a lottery ticket...
We'll find out on the Breakfast show tomorrow whether he won or not!?... So...
Only Gemma could do this! Trevor won the award for Best Dj at last nights Mobo Awards, Gemma went to collect the award on Trevor's behalf and in true Gemma style took out the her camera and filmed the reaction for Trevor, She really does love him!
