How are you? I am fine. Last week we recorded the pilot for Adam Buxton's Big Mix Tape with Julian Barratt. It was pretty good I think though we haven't finished putting it all together just yet so excessive trumpet blowing would be premature. One of the bits that worked nicely however was a quick-fire Q&A with Julian using many of the questions you so kindly supplied. As we're going to be recording another couple of shows this week, I was hoping to prevail upon your wit and generosity once again for my next set of guests!

Ìý

The first show we're taping is called Toddler Tunes and features great music that babies and young children would also enjoy (but not just Disney songs, Girls Aloud and Muse). I'm hoping my guests for that show will be Danny & Gaz from Supergrass, a.k.a. The Hot Rats, who are of course no strangers to 6 Music and have over the years made some of my favourite music ever. As with Julian I imagine our conversation will meander ludicrously hither and probably thither (though I'll do my best to stick to the hither) but at some point I'll whip out your questions, Tommy gun like, and pepper them with enquiries!

Ìý

Then I'll be reunited with decorated pop video genius, Son of Rambow director and the only man ever to stand in for Joe on our radio show: [Garth Jennings][1] (who coincidentally made the joyful Muppet-type promo for Pumping On Your Stereo by Supergrass). I think that show will be called Partytime! (Vol 1) and will be themed around party and celebration music but it's not set in concrete yet. Garth has worked with everyone from REM, Radiohead, Beck, and Vampire Weekend to Eels, Pulp, Blur, Robbie Williams and Sacha Baron Cohen and even Adam 'Buckules' Buxton, so there's a lot to ask him about!

Ìý

We're taping on Thursday so the quicker you can get some questions in, the more likely we are to incorporate them into our exhaustive preparations! Thanks chaps!

Ìý

By the way, I'm hoping to come to the Save 6 Music gathering outside Broadcasting House on Saturday 27th at midday. Maybe see some of you there.

I'm almost (almost) tearful with joy that you're doing another one of these! Loved your shows with Garth so this will be wonderful.

Nice little sign-off there. You can get pills for that :D

  • Comment number 2.

Will Garth be bringing his guitar?

  • Comment number 3.

    Danny & Gaz:

You seem to suffer from herbaceous and rodent obsession. DO you really believe that grass is "super" and rats are "hot"?

Saw you playing in Oxford many years ago. The Divine Comedy supported you before anyone knew who they were. Do you choose your support bands, and do you keep in touch with them?

    Garth:

If there's one band you'd love to make a video for, dead or alive (and I don't mean the rotation-themed-song group) who would it be?

  • Comment number 4.

I've got a question for Gaz. See, I used to share a house for a while with his cousin Holly, and she had this amazing bowl like a watermelon and I was just wondering if he knew where she might have got it.
See, I don't have her number, and I can't think of an easier way to find out.
Or could you ask Danny and Gaz who Mov is and what are Mandies (from the intro to 'We're not supposed to' on I should Coco). I suppose I could find out about the bowl myself.
    Thanking you

Buxton is our LEADER! Buxton is our LEADER! Nah Nah NahNah! (Bit of an 'Beefa vibe there for you good people). Good moves Bucklington, I'm looking forward to these excellent ´óÏó´«Ã½ 6 Music programmes muchly. I have also filled out many a SAVE 6 MUSIC petition and survey... here's hoping. In any case, please use these questions if you don't get enough good ones in -

    Garth:

Who would you rather be - Wayne or Garth?

    Super-hot-rats-grass:

You're bored... Uno or Top Trumps?

Question for Garth: Garth, you are the loveliest man in the world. Were you born lovely or was loveliness thrust upon you?

  • Comment number 7.

I think Supergrass have created some pretty child-friendly music over the years. In fact, Supergrass was my first gig - Manchester Academy in 1999, when I was just 14. I remember it distinctly because a very very drunk female Scottish student spent a good five minutes chatting me up before someone who knew her pulled her away saying "What's wrong with you, HE'S A CHILD!" I would have thought the overly gelled hair, bad acne and Tamagotchi key chain would have given it away.

My question is: Have you ever thought of doing a kids music album? I definitely think there's a niche market there. Take a look at the iTunes chart for children's music. Top of the list? Happy Birthday!!! Number five is Can We Fix It? by Bob the Builder. Kids are idiots with no music taste and make decisions based on nonsense that nobody else can understand. A bit like the powers that be at... well that's a bit off topic really but seriously, you could make a killing here guys! Granted it may well ruin a long and successful career as respectable artists but who cares about the value of decent, respectable and intelligent music these days anyway?

  • Comment number 8.

Nice one Adam! Is this getting aired or podcasted, or both?

    Questions -

    Favourite ever memory involving hair?

Did you collect anything as a child? Or now?

Why are you the way that you are?

    Favourite picture?

    What have you climbed?

    'Thanks'

  • Comment number 9.

    hey adam

could you please ask garth to tell his singing shower door story again

  • Comment number 10.

    Please ask the following questions:

    1 - Guess who I saw today?
2 - Rhetorical questions... I mean, how lame are they?
    3 - Favourite commerical use of the ampersand - C&A or B&Q?

    Thanks a bundle.

  • Comment number 11.

Id quite like to hear Garths instructions for cooking the perfect boiled egg again. I failed to note them down when he told us last time and it's such as vital life skill to have in ones arsenal. thanks!

  • Comment number 12.

    For Garth:

An idea music video he's wanted to made/ or has made that was really out-there/ over the top?

  • Comment number 13.

So pleased we'll hear you on the radio again Adam...
    Questions:
What's the worst thing you've been covered in?
What's the scariest thing that bit you?
What coffee do you order from Pret? (other coffee chains are available)
    love you, byeeee

  • Comment number 14.

Questions…some things of interest and insight into a person’s inner mentile world…

    1. When you were a child what was your favourite meal for tea? (I mean dinner, for those people not from bits of the UK where evening meal is tea)
    2. Is there any type of music which actually scares or intimidates you when you hear it?
    3. Choice: Big house, small garden or small house, big garden?
    4. Do you particularly indentify with anyone significant in history?
    5. Have you ever infuriated yourself by becoming temporarily obsessed with something and not been able to stop thinking about it? If so, what was it and at what point was it the most intrusive on everyday life? (For example: I once got a bit fixated on acquiring a Peter Gabriel poster I’d seen on a station platform, and started mentally composing letters to the train company, then completely forgot about it within 2 weeks. I think people do this sort of thing a lot.)

  • Comment number 15.

    Woah!
This makes it sound like it will be a proper series of shows. Overjoyed? You bet I am.

Adam Buxton, one half of 6 Music's award-winning Adam & Joe, also starts his new show on Easter Sunday. Adam Buxton's Big Mix Tape (12.00midday-2.00pm) takes a weekly topic or theme and makes a compilation tape for listeners to share.

I guess it would make no sense for this to be a podcast since it might be mute without the music but maybe it would work. Let's see.

  • Comment number 16.

My questions for Danny and Gaz:-

    HOW do you do?
    WHO do you do?
WHY do you do who you do?
WHERE do you do who you do?
WHAT do you do to who you do and what do you wear, where you do who you do, anyhoo?

Some selections from the Save 6Music Facebook campaign that could well be of interest to the A+J legion:-

  • Comment number 17.

Danny and Gaz: I always get confused between which ones are Supergrass, Supertramp and Super Furry Animals. Why did you do that to me?

  • Comment number 18.

    Both Adam and Garth:
What do you think the ´óÏó´«Ã½ should set as its strategic priorities and how do you feel they can achieve this?

Your "worsties" movies? i would include "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada" and "Layer Cake"

  • Comment number 19.

For Danny and Gaz. Are they pronounced 'sideburns' or 'sideboards'. And if so, why?

*Puts Gold Stars on ical, diary, iphone, calender and wall planner for easter sunday*

    :S

  • Comment number 21.

Who remembers Baaaddad basically saying that Supergrass were ugly in a review of one of their singles on the Adam and Joe show? Dredge that one up Adam, and if you could get Mr. Buxton snr. involved all the better!

  • Comment number 22.

    Will this baby be pocasted?

  • Comment number 23.

BaaadDad also compared that Supergrass song (was it the Moving review?) to one of Ad's favourite childhood tunes, the Tigger 'bouncy bouncy bouncy bouncy fun fun fun fun fun' one... So there you go:

Favourite song from your childhood? (Not including the Tigger one.)

  • Comment number 24.

Garth - Do you have any relation to Pat Jennings, the legendary Arsenal goalkeeper. ( I know ho you love football Adam ;) )

  • Comment number 25.

Question for Danny: If it's not me, have you had a chance to find out who is? I've been worried sick ever since you teased "It's not me, no, no, not me, but I don't know what is" You said "I try and find my peace of mind. But I know what I miss. Now it's gone. Now it's gone. Now it's gone" Well where is it - and who the hell was it? Oh the torture.

  • Comment number 26.

Just wanted to wish Adam, James, Gaz, Danny and Garth a lovely, fun day in the studio.

If you haven't done so already, might there be a chance for Adam to record some links to slide into the Easter 'Best of' show? Just thinking.....

ooxxxOOXXX0000 oops, my bad, carry on.

  • Comment number 27.

Robson Green and Jerome Flynn, had a number 1 (with Unchained Melody). This was incredibly depressing for me as a (then, 14 year old) music lover (in 1995) (on holiday near Barmouth in Wales as I recall).
Given that single basically stole the #1 from 'Alright', I assume you have had a headstart in hating Simon Cowell. What progress have you made in this time in toppling his throne?

This may need editing. (I already edited a bit out about the girls in the static caravan next to the one I spent that summer in)

  • Comment number 28.

    To both Adam and Garth:

If you had the choice of doing a Song Wars collaboration with one of (a living) Ludvig van Beethoven, Brian Wilson, Aphex Twin or David Bowie, who would you choose?

  • Comment number 29.

Garth: You are well-known for working with wonderful people on their music videos. Who would you least like to work with?

  • Comment number 30.

    Love Toddler Tunes idea...
I am working on a music event for kids in May, and have been working closely with Starcatchers who put on an event called Sprog Rock specially for 0-4 year olds that went down an absolute treat with the ickle ones and parents alike...
Mebbe you could come do a live broadcast from our event?
    Rosemary

    Adam!
Yes!! I cant wait for Sunday, it is going to be mega. I might even have a little cry to hear your voice, get all emotional and have to have a lie down.
9am on a Sat is just not the same, nor is 10am, in fact the whole weekend is a write off when its not started with A&J.

    I am desolate without you...

  • Comment number 33.

Adam you're back hoorah! Actually, please can I ask you some questions. This new show sounds very much like the show you used to do on the digital channel I can't remember the name of? I used to LOVE that show as a student. I remember you making a mix tape for the lovely Louis Theroux and there was a Richard Hell track on it and I have been a fan ever since. How is Joe and where is Joe?

    Love you

  • Comment number 34.

  • Comment number 35.

Dr Buckles + Maxell C90 + 6Music = paying licence fee with no grumbles

    Anyway... wuzza-wuzz...
