Smiles Davis! Smiles Davis...it does give the impression of funny jazz...jazz Howard Moon style!
Another fab show Buckles...Peter Serafinowicz, what a lovely guy and so funny.
    Highlights:
    Peter's Iggy Population joke.
Peter's Modern Art comment, couldn't agree more.
John Ford - Atlantis song - Sounded so promising until he started singing high - Bless!
Guitar Wolf - great to hear some of the Japnese bands that you featured on 'Adam & Joe Go Tokyo' again!
Muppet Shows Mana Mana Song - Never fails to make me smile - good memories!
Tony Rudd singing Machadaynu - just brilliant and you could see how it was highly influenced by Spike Milligan's theme from Q5.
Hearing that theme tune took me straight back to my childhood, staying up way beyond my bedtime and watching Q with my Dad who was a huge Milligan and Goons fan! We were eating Sunday lunch whilst listening to the show today and it was so lovely to share a comedy moment with the whole family. We were all crying with laughter listening to the Q5 music. Thanks Peter for choosing that and bringing back some good memories and inspiring a new one!

Loving all the wacky voiced jibberish songs on today, made me think of the opening bit to the 'Adam & Joe Show' Theme tune. Is there anything more funny that people singing utter nonsense in a silly voice. The German Band 'African' were hilarious too - the lead singer did sound like a muppet, just like Fozzie Bear methinks!

Good job Adam...nicely compiled and you achieved your goal of not just playing novelty songs!
Great show with a nice bit of swinging 60s Bowie at the end.

Is that a sketch of you on the left? It looks like a cross between Popeye and Bluto!

  • Comment number 3.

    Best hair ever!

  • Comment number 4.

If only all my friends were drug addicts! I'd probably/definitely get a feature in 'Heat' or at least 'Take a Break', i'd even settle for 'You'.

    I don't think i'd settle for 'Bliss'.

    Nice show, yeah!

  • Comment number 5.

Another good show. Always good to hear Tom Tom Club, John Cooper Clarke and the marvellous Rutles. Spike Milligan was great and the Liam Lynch song is very funny too. Peter was fun especially the modern art bit and glad he did the shipping forecast.
Any conformation on Liza Tarbuck and dumped songs for next week?

  • Comment number 6.

How do I get the other podcasts?!! 1 week is not long enough!

So good to hear Wesley Willis on the radio. I met him at a festival in Charleston, South Carolina in 1995 after a truly memorable set and have a copy of one of his homemade albums 'Fireman Rick' autographed to me "For Najel".

A few years later, after his two 'major label' albums came out, I saw him in Chicago looking fairly unwell and pan-handling. A sad sight.

My last 'encounter' with Wesley was on Brick Lane in London in 2007, four years after he died, when I spotted this sticker on lamp post:

"Rock over London, rock on Chicago. Burger King - get your burger's worth!"

Best show yet - wonderful stuff. Knowing that there will be another one of these to listen to takes the sting out of being back at work on a monday morning!

Keep up the good work and heartfelt congrats to you all on the Sony award.

  • Comment number 10.

Loved the show - but i cant get a link up to download the podcast - anyone else having the same problem?

  • Comment number 11.

You played Machadaynu! Thanks Bucculon! Does anyone know if I can expect to see Adam or Joe at Glastonbury this yeah? I guessing they're not, because of the lack of BRILLIANT jokes, which is certainly a shame.

  • Comment number 12.

This mixtape inspired me to look up some stuff on youtube...I think it's time for the muppets to return to our tv screens :D

  • Comment number 13.

Is this photo one of those casting headshot things of Peter's? He's looking shmooooove.....

  • Comment number 14.

Hi Marge. You will be glad to hear that the Muppets are coming back. There was a report a few months ago that a new movie is in the works which The Flight Of The Concords are having some form of input. Can't remember if it's writing or directing. According to the report, it would be aimed at a slightly more 'knowing' audience, like the Shrek movies.

  • Comment number 15.

HI Sennas. That sounds like a match made in heaven...I'm already looking forward to it :D

  • Comment number 16.

WOW! I forgot all about Machadaynu.

Very happy hearing Flight of the Conchords on the radio as well. Aren't they touring the UK? !!!GUESTS!!!

  • Comment number 17.

    Great show!
I just thought of one of the funniest songs I know " Bet'cha Can't Kiss Me (Just One Time)" by Ike & Tina Turner. Great song, funky but surprising...

  • Comment number 18.

Hi Marge. I'm trying to find the link on Ain't It Cool to the news item but I'm not having much luck. I seem to remember hearing the basic plot was Gonzo travelling the world trying to unite the Muppets for a big show. Favourite Muppet? Got to be The Swedish Chef.

  • Comment number 19.

I always loved Beaker he was so cute...I remember an episode when he got put in a machine by Dr Bunsen Honeydew and lots of little beakers came out of the other end! "Mee Mee, mee mee mee mee, Mee Mee" - that's Beaker singing 'Feelings', by the way :D :D :D

  • Comment number 20.

Thanks for the readout Adamantium! Brillaint show this week, and your guests have been lovely, they're all just really nice people. Hope too see the show keep on coming over the summer. On another note; Does anyone know if we can expect to see any of the duo at Glastonbury, Im guessing not, since we dont have the build up of fantastic jokes [you can interpret that anyway you want] this year.

    Bye bye!

  • Comment number 21.

Help please. What is the maximum amount of time it is possible to have Machadaynu stuck in your head? I am on day four. Help me.

  • Comment number 22.

Me too Bolly Knickers! I even sang it out loud in work yesterday!

  • Comment number 23.

Loved the show Adam, and Peter's one hell of a witty guy. Particularly enjoyed the music, and have since downloaded much of the playlist - being currently obsessed with Ween and their extraordinary album "The Mollusk".
I also downloaded Peter's show - which is great. Having said that, I didn't pay for either of these, and it's this somewhat cavalier attitude to copyright infringement that's wrong with the world today. Tomorrow I plan to turn myself in.

  • Comment number 24.

Suds. Don't you realise Home Taping Is Killing Music! ... errr....actually no it isn't.

  • Comment number 25.

You're right, it's thievery plain and simple. Most of my friends agree although, living as I do in Brisbane Australia, none had really heard of Adam, Peter, or surprisingly Ween. Now they have, and although expressing early interest and discussing the show at work with great admiration and amusement, I fail to see how this could possibly recompense said artists, or more particularly the people that make their magic happen. We must stamp out this piracy now.

  • Comment number 26.

Loved the show and congratulations on the award. I believe that you should also retroactively include 'Stephen' by Ke$ha in the playlist. Not only does the song include lots of lovely Stephenage, but it is also very funny (unintentionally or not, I can't tell) and may be either the best or worst song in the world or possibly both. Perhaps you could include it on another show. Taylor Swift also has a song called 'Hey Stephen'.

  • Comment number 27.

Mr Serafinowicz's mum is obsessed by The Fall! It's the shy boyish charm of Mark E Smith surely...The Spike Milligan impression spooked me the heck out; it was like a possession, Linda Blair style. If ever he runs out of jobs [unlikely this decade from what I've heard], he could easily star as the young(ish) Christopher Walken don't ya think?

Guitar Wolf - Summertime Blues....*slack-jaw*...Sounded like he as 'singing' "Aint no QUEUE for the Summertime Blues!" Which to be fair, actually makes almost as much sense as the original line.

Despite many moments of creative transcendence Lou Reed has achieved during his career, some of his singing/lyrical content has always left me gasping for air. 'Stupid Man' sounds like it was something he launched into, getting into the shower one day; feeling mightily jaunty but not having a clue where he was going with it next. I'm crying HOT TEARS of fun as I type this listening to it on Listen Again, ALSO thinking of what John Cale and the rest of the Velvet Underground would have said if he'd proudly presented that piece of writing to the group...AND also thinking of what you said to David Bowie about appearing to be "..a silly man on a number of levels"...

    Too much funny! *passes out*

    ............

    Some belated suggestions :-

White Noise - Here Come The Fleas ["They're on your knees. So move over please, I don't want you around me."] Their seriously dubious 'Black Mass In Hell' on the same record resides at the polar opposite, and will make an average person cack their undergarments in broad daylight. Hmm, scarifying songs - possible future Mixtape concept?

Ron Geesin - Dance of the Red Corpuscles. If red blood cells could actually dance, they would indeed sound like this.

    Wendy Carlos - Sonata in G Major, L. 209 K. 455. No really, it's a hoot.

    ....

Ivor Cutler - I Think Very Deeply. Oh he does, and very weirdly.

Barabadabada ["If you see a man with a couple of woollen eyes, run away with a saucy grin - he can see as well as you." I kid you not]

Life in a Scotch Sitting Room ["Loook! A thistle," and then, "Looook! Another thistle." and so on]

    ....

John Shuttleworth - Pigeons in Flight ["I want to see you tonight"]

Spinal Tap - Big Bottom [....]

    *

@ Suds - "expressing early interest and discussing the show at work with great admiration and amusement" may be good for ego-health, but it doesn't pay the rent, or even for the windows to be cleaned. You must endeavour to fork out your hard-earned (or not) cash in some way, so that it finds it way to the pockets of the artists. Otherwise you must simply cease having fun at their expense. Living in Australia is no excuse.

    *

Now, a ****VERY IMPORTANT!**** alert! Where's the red ink? Ok found it - The ´óÏó´«Ã½ Trust want to hear exactly what people think about the proposed disgraceful smash up of the painstakingly built Palace of Music and Fun that is 6 Music, and the deadline to verbally kick up a stink/tut disapprovingly is 25th of May. Link below.

Also here for various other bits about what in blue blazes is being done about this 'Stupid Man' plan.

I make absolutely no apology for caps in this instance. Thx.

  • Comment number 28.

Is it true that Adam and Joe went to school with Nick Clegg? If so, can we please hear a political expose (I don't mind if this is made up - the more outrageous the better).

    Much love,

    Eloise xxx

P.S. My brother does great impressions of Adam and Joe and has put together a list of recognisable characteristics in order to help any amateur do the impression. Maybe not that suitable for the mixtape but might make a good competition when Joe is back.

P.P.S. I tried emailing this but it bounced back.

    @ Radiator

Phew, it's Christopher Walken from Sleepy Hollow, I've been bothering my brain to remember who PS looks like in that pic. Thanks.

  • Comment number 30.

Yes, that's it! Well pretty close anyway; I think Mr S probably takes care of his teeth a bit better. Hope so anyway:

This pic from some other flick could almost be a doppelganger, allowing for a handful of years:

  • Comment number 31.

I always thought that Christopher Walken in Sleepy Hollow looked like this:

But I am in no way suggesting that Peter looks like him!

  • Comment number 32.

Holy moley Marge, that link should have come with a warning!

Radiator, that's why I use Colgate (other toothpastes are available, results may vary, see Crest link above)

  • Comment number 33.

Great show, I finally got round to catching up on the podcast. I was absolutely convinced, given Adam's obsession with David Bowie, that he would include Bowies and Bing crosby's version of Little Drummer Boy which has the funniest/most cringeworthy spoken intro.

"are you the new butler wuzzawuzza?"

If made my own Smiles Davis mix on spotify including the aformentioned song for those who are interested.

Ok, this blog is playing HTML mind-games with me. The pic was showing I tell thee!

Here it is in link form, but be warned, avoid viewing while munching on anything tasty - it will suck the flavour right out.

  • Comment number 37.

Ah, so not only was the image in post 35 not showing (despite showing in the preview), but the rest got deleted for some reason known only to the caretaker here...

The word part went a little something like this anyway:

Whatever you do foxystoat, don't use toothpaste bought off the market...

Bah, the red ink was showing up in preview in my 2nd to last post, but didn't make the final cut. What a swizz!

  • Comment number 38.

A great mix, but there appears to have been a major oversight. Prisencolinensinainciusol, written by Adriano Celantano is one of the funniest, yet deeply moving songs written. Apparently it's what the English language sounds like to non-English speaking foreigners. Although it was written in 1972, it has a pretty funky "rappy" rhythm to it and he wrote it because he felt nobody understood his songs which often had seriously themes.

It's not to late to add it in - I won't tell anyone.
