Another fab show Buckles...Peter Serafinowicz, what a lovely guy and so funny.
Highlights:
Peter's Iggy Population joke.
Peter's Modern Art comment, couldn't agree more.
John Ford - Atlantis song - Sounded so promising until he started singing high - Bless!
Guitar Wolf - great to hear some of the Japnese bands that you featured on 'Adam & Joe Go Tokyo' again!
Muppet Shows Mana Mana Song - Never fails to make me smile - good memories!
Tony Rudd singing Machadaynu - just brilliant and you could see how it was highly influenced by Spike Milligan's theme from Q5.
Hearing that theme tune took me straight back to my childhood, staying up way beyond my bedtime and watching Q with my Dad who was a huge Milligan and Goons fan! We were eating Sunday lunch whilst listening to the show today and it was so lovely to share a comedy moment with the whole family. We were all crying with laughter listening to the Q5 music. Thanks Peter for choosing that and bringing back some good memories and inspiring a new one!
Loving all the wacky voiced jibberish songs on today, made me think of the opening bit to the 'Adam & Joe Show' Theme tune. Is there anything more funny that people singing utter nonsense in a silly voice. The German Band 'African' were hilarious too - the lead singer did sound like a muppet, just like Fozzie Bear methinks!
Good job Adam...nicely compiled and you achieved your goal of not just playing novelty songs!
Great show with a nice bit of swinging 60s Bowie at the end.

Any conformation on Liza Tarbuck and dumped songs for next week?

A few years later, after his two 'major label' albums came out, I saw him in Chicago looking fairly unwell and pan-handling. A sad sight.
My last 'encounter' with Wesley was on Brick Lane in London in 2007, four years after he died, when I spotted this sticker on lamp post:
"Rock over London, rock on Chicago. Burger King - get your burger's worth!"

There was a report a few months ago that a new movie is in the works which The Flight Of The Concords are having some form of input. Can't remember if it's writing or directing. According to the report, it would be aimed at a slightly more 'knowing' audience, like the Shrek movies.

I also downloaded Peter's show - which is great. Having said that, I didn't pay for either of these, and it's this somewhat cavalier attitude to copyright infringement that's wrong with the world today. Tomorrow I plan to turn myself in.

Most of my friends agree although, living as I do in Brisbane Australia, none had really heard of Adam, Peter, or surprisingly Ween. Now they have, and although expressing early interest and discussing the show at work with great admiration and amusement, I fail to see how this could possibly recompense said artists, or more particularly the people that make their magic happen. We must stamp out this piracy now.

Not only does the song include lots of lovely Stephenage, but it is also very funny (unintentionally or not, I can't tell) and may be either the best or worst song in the world or possibly both. Perhaps you could include it on another show. Taylor Swift also has a song called 'Hey Stephen'.

At 21st May 2010, Eh Watt wrote:Mr Serafinowicz's mum is obsessed by The Fall! It's the shy boyish charm of Mark E Smith surely...The Spike Milligan impression spooked me the heck out; it was like a possession, Linda Blair style. If ever he runs out of jobs [unlikely this decade from what I've heard], he could easily star as the young(ish) Christopher Walken don't ya think?
Guitar Wolf - Summertime Blues....*slack-jaw*...Sounded like he as 'singing' "Aint no QUEUE for the Summertime Blues!" Which to be fair, actually makes almost as much sense as the original line.
Despite many moments of creative transcendence Lou Reed has achieved during his career, some of his singing/lyrical content has always left me gasping for air. 'Stupid Man' sounds like it was something he launched into, getting into the shower one day; feeling mightily jaunty but not having a clue where he was going with it next. I'm crying HOT TEARS of fun as I type this listening to it on Listen Again, ALSO thinking of what John Cale and the rest of the Velvet Underground would have said if he'd proudly presented that piece of writing to the group...AND also thinking of what you said to David Bowie about appearing to be "..a silly man on a number of levels"...
Too much funny! *passes out*
............
Some belated suggestions :-
White Noise - Here Come The Fleas ["They're on your knees. So move over please, I don't want you around me."] Their seriously dubious 'Black Mass In Hell' on the same record resides at the polar opposite, and will make an average person cack their undergarments in broad daylight. Hmm, scarifying songs - possible future Mixtape concept?
Ron Geesin - Dance of the Red Corpuscles. If red blood cells could actually dance, they would indeed sound like this.
Wendy Carlos - Sonata in G Major, L. 209 K. 455. No really, it's a hoot.
....
Ivor Cutler - I Think Very Deeply. Oh he does, and very weirdly.
Barabadabada ["If you see a man with a couple of woollen eyes, run away with a saucy grin - he can see as well as you." I kid you not]
Life in a Scotch Sitting Room ["Loook! A thistle," and then, "Looook! Another thistle." and so on]
....
John Shuttleworth - Pigeons in Flight ["I want to see you tonight"]
Spinal Tap - Big Bottom [....]
*
@ Suds - "expressing early interest and discussing the show at work with great admiration and amusement" may be good for ego-health, but it doesn't pay the rent, or even for the windows to be cleaned. You must endeavour to fork out your hard-earned (or not) cash in some way, so that it finds it way to the pockets of the artists. Otherwise you must simply cease having fun at their expense. Living in Australia is no excuse.

Now, a ****VERY IMPORTANT!**** alert! Where's the red ink? Ok found it - The ´óÏó´«Ã½ Trust want to hear exactly what people think about the proposed disgraceful smash up of the painstakingly built Palace of Music and Fun that is 6 Music, and the deadline to verbally kick up a stink/tut disapprovingly is 25th of May. Link below.
Also here for various other bits about what in blue blazes is being done about this 'Stupid Man' plan.

P.S. My brother does great impressions of Adam and Joe and has put together a list of recognisable characteristics in order to help any amateur do the impression. Maybe not that suitable for the mixtape but might make a good competition when Joe is back.

Prisencolinensinainciusol, written by Adriano Celantano is one of the funniest, yet deeply moving songs written. Apparently it's what the English language sounds like to non-English speaking foreigners. Although it was written in 1972, it has a pretty funky "rappy" rhythm to it and he wrote it because he felt nobody understood his songs which often had seriously themes.
It's not to late to add it in - I won't tell anyone.
