CONSIDINE CANCELS BUT KORDA KONFIRMS!

Post categories:

Adam Buxton Adam Buxton | 10:56 UK time, Tuesday, 8 June 2010

30 Blog Foot Of Grunts,

After days of preparation, which incorporated your excellent questions for Paddy Considine, we heard mere hours before we were due to record the show, that Paddy has been forced to cancel due to unforeseen work commitments. As you can imagine we were very disappointed and I was so furious that I have stormed out of the show.

However there is a silver lining. the writer/director, entrepreneur and Jim Belushi historian has agreed to fill in at very short notice in the role of both presenter and guest.

As Ken is a key figure in the film industry the theme of the show remains unchanged, ie. the link between music and the movies with particular emphasis on actors who have turned their filthy hands to music. Your suggestions so far have been extremely useful but if you would like to add any questions for Ken about his career thusfar or films in general (Ken has worked on nearly every film made in the last 25 years in one way or another), then please so to do! Ken will be recording the show on the morning of Thursday 10th this week.

With any luck I'll be back with an amazing guest the following week. I'm pretty sure I know who it is already (member of a very big band) but after making such a song and dance about Paddy only to have him bail at the eleventh hour, I'm keeping shtum til I'm sure this time...

Oh and by the way, thanks for all your very touching birthday messages. Genuinely made my day!

I love you byeeeeee!!!!!!

Loving that way of signing off, might have to borrow it!

Question for Ken: What do you think of 3D films?

    Good day to you §1234567890-=qwertyuiop[]asdfghjkl;'\`zxcvbnm,./

Oh my word i love Ken Korda, isnt almost every director in the industry at the moment is following his steps to how to make a movie? Can you ask him why we didnt see speeding on the needlebliss in the cinemas and does he feel that this is because it was "too progressive and ahead of its time" and in a few years will he be considered a genius?

  • Comment number 3.

    Pah - Hollywood types.
Still... Ken Korda? Infinitely more exciting (and a damn sight sexier.)
I can't believe you managed to get the guy at such short notice.

Questions for the legendary auteur then...
    1) Will you marry me?
    2) Why not?
    3) Why are you so unreasonable?
    4) Esteemed Belushi historian that you are, if offered a choice between directing K9 IV: All Dogs go to Devon or the long-awaited sequel to Curly Sue, which would you choose and why?
    5) Please will you marry me?
    6) No? Okay. I still love you BYEEEEE

    Hello Adam
Its a shame Paddy has had to cancel but i do love Ken Korda. One question i do have for Mr. Korda is: Who was your favourite person to interview on Omniken?

Great show, love the Mix tape. If you happen to look on facebook, i did set up a group a few weeks ago:
    [Unsuitable/Broken URL removed by Moderator]
    Hope you like
    LOVE YOU BYEEEEEEEEE XXOOXX

  • Comment number 5.

I would like to hear Ken's views on Bad Lieutenant - Port of Call New Orleans, if he has seen it or indeed if he hasn't seen it :D

Will there ever be a new series of Omniken? Plenty of interesting new celebs that you could profile, Richard Madeley, Dale Winton, SuperNanny....?

  • Comment number 6.

Huge fan of your work, Ken. You must have met so many celebrities in your time, who was the biggest ponce? Do you have any juicy gossip you don't mind sharing?

  • Comment number 7.

We're all thinking of you Buckle's Good Luck!

  • Comment number 8.

Ken, having followed your career for some time I must confess that I have always been rather in awe of your charm, tenacity and your capacity for genius.

I would like to know: who is the most irritating person you have met in the film industry?

And; if you were to exact revenge upon one of your fellow directors, who would it be, what form would this vengeance take and why?

  • Comment number 9.

So Ken from an insider's point of view, which of the David's (Arnold/Holmes) is the true musical genius when it comes to musically rendering a film? (Personally, I sit in the Mr Holmes camp).
Why do actors insist on being everthing in a movie (producter, director, writer, executive producer, composer..etc)? Why can't they stick to acting? It doesn't happen in other industries, milkman don't suddenly buy a herd of cows and milk them, they just stick to delivering because that's their job.

  • Comment number 10.

Cowboy36 said: 'milkman don't suddenly buy a herd of cows and milk them, they just stick to delivering because that's their job'

Hehe - nice one, Cowboy :) Similarly, cowboys don't herd up the cows, milk them and then buy a small electrically powered vehicle and drive up and down suburban streets dispensing dairy produce. More's the pity.

    member of a big band?

    PLEASE BE SOMEONE FROM RADIOHEAD!

  • Comment number 12.

Sad to hear about Considine, but very excited to hear from the legendary Korda! My question would be as follows:

    - As an acclaimed filmmaker and director, how does he go through the casting process for his films? What qualities does he look for in a potential leading lady? Just for my information, you understand.

Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY ADAM! Sorry it's a bit belated. Hope you had a magical day. Iloveyoubyee! xx

  • Comment number 13.

    Hi Adam,

Sorry to hear about Paddy. Loveed his work, but he's dead to me now.

    Question for Ken:

Is it true that Jenny Powell fell in love with you while you were filming OmniKen?

Will there be a two-disc edition of Speeding on the Needle Bliss and what extras will there be?

Why aren't you on the judging panel for X Factor, considering your past as a teen band mogul?

  • Comment number 14.

Hey Adam! Loved the greeting you crowe-barred in there.

I've always enjoyed your work with Ken and often wonder how easy it was to direct him back in the 90s for that little show you did with your schoolfriend (have the police released him yet, by the way?).

How times have changed. I would love to hear Ken's thoughts on these new scriptwriting apps on the market like the one that Toby Smoles demonstrates on . Is this really the future of film making ?

I've used the demo version of Adobe's StudiosThinkAudiencesAreStupid suite and whilst it gave a pleasingly predictable and insultingly simplistic plotline, I felt that the sex scenes were not realised to their full potential, or indeed to a level that would retain the audience's attention. I wonder if such software should include a plug-in to enable film makers to enhance certain areas by hand - the old fashioned way, if you will.

I'm Ken might treat us to a quick burst from his musical vanity project. I've heard he has a fair to middling voice.

I carried a lovely image of you in my head yesterday, feasting on fish fingers for your birthday tea.

  • Comment number 15.

...of course, that should have been

I'm hoping Ken might treat us to a quick burst from his musical vanity project. I've heard he has a fair to middling voice.

  • Comment number 16.

Don't forget to check the Considine (bleh!) blog entry from time to time as the lovely peeps in this community may still be posting ideas on there for tunes and stuff!

  • Comment number 17.

I seem to remember Ken being a bit of a fan of Paddy Considine making a big deal of his role in "Stoned". How does he feel about having to fill in for him at such short notice?

  • Comment number 18.

    Hi Ken!

I followed all your advice about making a hit film and yet I'm still not famous, rich or sexy. My film was about inner-city London gangsters and was called "Laaaandaaaan't Wind Me Up Son". What am I doing wrong? Am I concentrating on an extinct genre?

    Besties, Russell

    Paddy who????

Dearest Adam, I have a very good feeling that the brilliant and rather handsome Ken Korda will show up, unlike that other fella, he wont LET YOU AND ALL OF US DOWN, AND BY EXTENSION, HIMSELF DOWN.

I'd like to ask Ken this: when you are on set, do you have any special personal requirements, much like a band might request on their rider?

I love Marge's tape name suggestion of The Tapes of Wrath.

    Lots of love
    xxxxx grrrr xxxxx

Who does Ken prefer? Baffleck (Ben Affleck) or Mamon (matt Damon)? Its one of the hardest questions the world of cinema will ever produce!

Question for Ken: I'd like to know if you've ever got angry and flipped out on set, and, if so, for what reason?

  • Comment number 40.

I thought Marge's suggestion from the other thread of "Hollywood Hootenanny" was one of the most efficient but I'm confused now.
Aren't we looking for a title that refers to actors who sing or play in a band or did we broaden it out from that?

  • Comment number 41.

ken, as a man of great gravitas and an intellectual powerhouse, how do you handle criticism? i know your work has received mixed reviews. do you respect the critics? or do you think them jealous of your vision while they scrabble around in the bile and unrequited dreams of column inches?
is there any reviews you could read out on air which you have found to be particularly myopic or which fail to understand your filmscapes completely, i know hugo gutriani's review of "bliss" (or sotnb) was pretty personal and cutting but i think your reaction was reasonable, not petty, insecure and bigoted like many in the press seemed to think at the time.
    huge huge fan,

    @Roobles
Thanks for that...I was getting a bit out of control...;)

@YourNameHere - Yes I did get a bit off track there didn't I...oh, but it was fun! :D

  • Comment number 43.

Big fan of Mr. Korda's work. Has he worked on many music biopics? I was wondering if he has any views on things like the "Let's Try Playing it Fast" trope, or else the crowbarring of song titles into the narrative.

I'm a big fan of both of those techniques, naturally.

  • Comment number 44.

    @MargeGunderson loving your fun!

...another question or two for Ken:

We know you come from an iconic film-making family but would you encourage your children (if you have any) to work in the industry?

Has Joe sought your input at any point during his current project (that's Joe Cornish - the silly, tall one from that little tv show back in the day).

  • Comment number 45.

Can we here some 1471 please ken!!!

you must have some of those old demo tapes lying around,

I know its not film related but they were solid pop gold.

    ADAM,

HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME!!!! I AM IN A CULTURAL VOID (Northern Territory, Australia) AND WAS REFUSED ACCESS TO YOUR PODCAST BECAUSE OF MY ACCIDENTAL LOCATION OUTSIDE OF THE UK. PLEASE ENSURE FUTURE PODCASTS ARE ACCESSABLE TO EVERYONE!

    love you bye,

  • Comment number 51.

Umm excuse me, I'm really sorry to bother you, may I just say a couple of things? Won't take long. Oh thank you ever so much. Um well. I'm a big fan blablabla for many years blablabla A&J dvd podcasts 6music youtube iplayer xfm I adore all the music blah etc, therefore I sincerely love you longtime bigtime.

BUT.. I live in Thailand currently. So.. as of last week, there are no BigMixtape podcasts available for mine and my mum's listening delight. I'm really cut up about it, man. I feel abandoned. You couldn't possibly pull some strings for me and many others who enjoy the podcast overseas? Oh, I knew it... It's ok, I understand, I know it's out of your hands.

Just wanted to express my regret because I'm really "into" the show. I'm going to Hull Uni in September to study music, so imagine how "into" the the show I must be since I find you massively fun and I'm massively into music. Imagine! Doublewhammy. So, thank you for all the intensely good times, which for now, must come to an end. Que lastima. See you (because "hear you" sounds weird) in September, I.. I guess. Lots of love,
    Stephen! I mean,
    Laura xxx

  • Comment number 52.

I really feel bad for all the overseas listeners - you must be feeling like you need a 'Splits' mixtape of your own right now.

Am I correct in thinking though that you can still 'listen again' to the full show, with all the lovely musics, via the iPlayer regardless of your location?

Hope the issue gets resolved soon - don't lose heart, lovely blogsters xxx

  • Comment number 55.

not sure whether this is the right forum but in regards to (or "re:") the subject of mixtapes and the sharing of these there is a very good scheme run by funjunkie.co.uk called summer burn.
You create a CD then send it to 2 folks who's addresses are sent to you and they send you one (so you get 2 new mixCDs from different folks).
The fact that its a Summer Burn does tend to mean that the theme is usually summer based (not a bad thing imho).
Anyway this year I'm going for a Concept album approach - its going to chart the career of a made up band using tracks from other groups, it will include the early days, the breakthrough years, the decline into excess noodling and drugs, followed by the inevitable split, solo albums and eventual reformation.
This sounds rather complicated now I've written it down!

@Russell - Didn't know it was going on! I went and deleted my Facebook because the whole thing was getting too stressful and a bit rubbs; I only witter on Twitter now.

Like the sexy new bloggins layout - Joe looks very haughty though. It must have taken the photographer hours to capture Dr Buckles right in that exact moment between having no-beard and having a beard. Did s/he use time lapse?

  • Comment number 71.

I wouldnt put it past Korda to have forced Pad to pull out. He's a slippery one.

  • Comment number 72.

I keep daydreaming about how awesome it would be to have Adam's Big Mixtape with Joe Cornballs as his special guest via satellite link-up. In the meantime though, Ken Korda is an absolutely massive scoop, you must have one hell of an agent Adam!

If you do get him on I have some lovely and interesting questions for him!

  • Comment number 74.

Ken would you mind saying the following in an Adam Buxton style voice:

  • Comment number 75.

Hi, Bolly Knickers here. I accidentally deleted my ´óÏó´«Ã½ account this morning (doing too many things at once, plus flimsy brain after my first Norwich BUG last night!! Fantastic) so I’ve taken advantage of the opportunity to change my name when setting it all up again.

I thought of some other mix tapes:
Songs that have been in films
Songs that have been in notable TV shows
Songs that sound like they OUGHT to have been in films but haven’t!
    Party songs that aren’t appalling
    Mixtape to cheer someone up
Mixtape for the next stage after ‘wave of new relations’, celebratory love songs. Wedding party mixtape??
    Urban/city songs
    Countryside songs!
Songs that are creepy or scary for some reason
    Mixtape of adolescent frustration
Educational / mind-expanding songs (e.g. exam revision mixtape…I’ve made plenty of those!)
Cover versions that sound least like the originals
Wintery songs that are NOT Christmas songs

And that’s me done until I think of some more!

(I tried to make BUG be a hyperlink but I don't know how to do it?? Did it work?)

  • Comment number 76.

I'd love to see a Ken Korda critique of Joe's new film when it comes out.

  • Comment number 77.

    Hey Bolly Where you bin?
Some tasty ideas there...I'm sure Buckles will go for some of them! Particularly liking the adolescent frustration idea.
I like your new name too. I'm gonna get confused "Webname" changed their name too...It's all too much for my tiny brain!

  • Comment number 78.

    @Roobles @Marge

THIS ...is the mighty Adam and Joe Status Day! Although you probably won't be able to see many of the status updates if you're not friends with the mixed bag of nuts who participated! Hmmm...

It was fun putting up random Buckle/Cornball quotes to confuse friends and families alike.

  • Comment number 79.

Thanks Russell...I can't log in 'cos I don't have a facebook account but I get the gist. Status meant your status on facebook... sounds like it was fun!

  • Comment number 80.

I dont know how Ken does it, but his persona always comes across has being very friendly, creative and intelligent. But I somehow think that behind that big inviting face and well groomed hair is a different person entirely...he stinks of lies, in the similar way Boggins stank of poo.

  • Comment number 81.

Can Ken please talk about Star Trek: The Next Generation at some point during the show. Oh, hang on, the show is already done now. I'm going now bye.

  • Comment number 82.

I am upset because I can’t listen anymore! I only live in Ireland, we are attached to you! The UK is only 45 mins drive away. I am sad. Its things like this that make me wish you still ruled us. Stupid independence.

  • Comment number 83.

How many other radio presenters would bother to put together an entire, hilarious, show just because their guest had dropped out? Would Jonathan Ross? I don't think so! Adam you are a genius and Ken Korda is the funniest er, man I've heard in ages. I'm still sniggering over Claudia Winkleman being perfectly qualified to present Film 2010 since she is quite young and has eyes. I wishwishwishwish Adam and Joe had the Radio 2 Saturday morning slot instead of Graham Norton - what are your agents playing at? kthnxluvubyeeeeee!!!

  • Comment number 84.

@82 - quite right too! ...Europeans getting our free ´óÏó´«Ã½ on licence payers money etc etc grumble grumble. Very funny post though Andrew, made me laugh.
