This show has been brilliant. I can't believe Ken Korda's name was never in the running to replace Jonathan Ross on the Film programme. Robert Mitchum's cod Jamaican accent is not heard nearly enough on the radio. Also I'm a huge Tom Waits fan and didn't know he'd recorded a theme tune for Iron Man 2 either. What a treat! Only complaint, I'd have picked one of Clint Eastwood's distinctive vocal performances too. I wrote a bit about them here a while back -

Ken, that was a fabulous mixtape, Buckles has some comptetition on his hands, he'd better watch out! Disappointed that you didn't play any Shatner though, maybe it was a bit too obvious!

Gosh! I'm really excited about the Pipkins movie, Considine will be brilliant as Hartley Hare, he's got that dessicated rabbity look down pat!! Who's gonna play Pig, Octavia and the cheeky monkey Topov though??
Nice kickoff with Absolute Beginners, I always think Bowie sounds like Suggs on this track, does anyone else?

I echo @Nigel Smith above it would have been nice to hear some Clint too although Wand'rin Star is a classic (how did he get a voice like that?)

Gotta say that the Tom Waits theme for Iron Man was much better than the ACDC soundtrack...perfect.

OMG! My jaw was on the floor when I heard that Robert Mitchum song! I don't think it could be more un-pc if it tried! Hilarious! :D
I loved the Coconut Records song, Jason Schwartzman has a great voice, will definitely check some more out.

Great to hear the Pearl and Dean music again, took me right back to seeing 'The Empire Strikes Back' in the local Odeon, sitting on the left to avoid the smokers (very effective!) and drinking a lovely concentrated Kia-ora orange drink from a square plastic container that by the power of osmosis made the drink taste of plastic too. Yum! Lovely!
Isn't Steve Martin fantastic on the banjo? That little tune was great; and you can't go wrong with a bit of Mexican Elvis.

Both myself and my husband were amazed by the Beatles tunes that you played, neither of us had heard of that album. I kinda liked Carrey's version of I am the Walrus, it puts across the craziness of the Lyrics big time!
What a brilliant idea to play the them from "Film (insert year here)" I love that tune added with the lovely Nina Simone it was all the more perfect.
Let's hope Gonky gets his head together and stops making mindless tosh like Transformers and concentrates on finding better projects for Shia, I don't hold out much hope though!
Ken , you played two of my most favouritest bits of music from movies ever today! Ryuichi Sakamoto's theme from Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence and the wonderful Burt Bacharach's Raindrop's Keep falling on My Head, I love love love both of these... It's so weird because I was going to recommend them but thought that they weren't what you wanted for today's show! Spooky!
I laughed so much at Steven Segal's songs, he really does wear a black silk tent...so funny.
I'm glad you cut Clint's song from Gran Torino, it's a bit slow and depressing to end such a lovely mixtape. The Rainbow Connection always brings a tear to my eye but is so beautiful too, I love Kermi and I love the Muppets...Good call!

I forgot to say that "You Only Live Twice" is my fave Bond song too! Those sweeping violins at the beginning are gorgeous...plus you have the added bonus in the movie of Connery pretending to be Japanese :D Fantastic!

Shouldn't that be Thomas Dolby or is it an ironic wink to everyone who says Dobly Stereo instead of Dolby? :D

@ MargeGunderson: You definitely want to check out more Coconut Records! The first album, "Nighttiming", is very good but second album "Davy" is even better. You don't want to skip one single song. :D

I was also impressed (not really!) with Seen Canary's 'Rex Harrison style' approach to singing! oh dear!

@MargeGunderson: I think you should, indeed. And hopefully you're not disappointed in it or you'll think "Damn, that girl has pretty bad tastes in music!". ;) But "Davy"... Gosh, it's so good! My favourite songs on it are "Saint Jerome" and "The Summer". "The Summer" makes you wish summer never ever ended.

James, Adam, HELP!

The last two PodMaxes have said they're not available to me as I live outside the UK (Beljom - the place with fries, beer and peeing kid things). Why?! I cannot survive without a weekly dose of Adam and Joe related bobbins. And to have Adam's Big Mixtape blocked means I face no choice but to drink beer and cry into it. Please sort this out, I'm dying inside here! Many thanks from an Expat that thinks you're doing a grand job indeed!

@Michael.......Adam made his apologies on the podcast today, saying that there are legal reasons why it can no longer be available worldwide.

I suggest you try to make a little search in Twitter (even if you're not a user) and see if it finds anything helpful........or other fan-based, chum groups........

Oh dear Marge, you were all on your lonesome for a while back there. I faintly heard your echo here in the Midlands just a few moments ago. I missed the show today so I've got to "listen again" tomorrow, though I won't actually be listening "again" as it will be my first listen.

I am upset because I can’t listen anymore! I only live in Ireland, we are attached to you! The UK is only 45 mins drive away. I am sad. Its things like this that make me wish you still ruled us. Stupid independence.

A personal thank you to Ken for that moving account of his struggle with Malibu. I myself have battled the cursed coconut. I was a Lilt user from a young age so it was perhaps almost inevitable that I would graduate onto 'M' later in life, in search of ever greater tropicality to escape the dreary days and long nights of these northern European latitudes. Many were the mornings when I would awake in unfamiliar surroundings, nothing but a litter of tiny paper umbrellas and funny-shaped straws to offer clues about the night before. Slowly, with great support from family and friends, I am getting my life back, but let's hope that with the huge publicity which Ken's story will doubtless generate, more can be done to shed light on this neglected disease (for that is what it is) and help the many fellow sufferers out there.

Another week, another flood of tears down my Australian face as a 13 second morsel is delivered to me, instead of a Buxton feast.
Honestly Adam, I am quite upset. You and Joe got me through year 12, your voice eases anxiety and produces laughing, which pleases me.

Please Big British Castle. Please let us have the podcast. We'll treat it with utmost respect.

Here's another West Australian who has been ensaddened by podcast lack. Pleas Mr Adam, make things all fixed for me. I mean sure I can listen to the listen again feed, but once that's gone its... well, its just gone D:
I listen to my old Adam and Joe podthingys all the time; in my house and in my car, on boats and on plains, and it always makes it nice wherever I am.

Ps: Id like to suggest Joe appears as a special guest on one of the big mixtapes. and maybe you could introduce a new feature, where people text in about a given subject. and then on the next podcast you could retroactively read more texts. and maybe you two could have a go at making your own songs for the mixtape every now and then, and you could pitch them against one another in... like, a war or... OH GOD WHY DID YOU TWO HAVE TO BREAK UP! WAS IT ME?

I hope to get hold of the podcast in a sneaky manner, but I enjoyed listen again muchly! The Sean Connery track had me howling with laughter. Ken, wonderful job. You have a second career in radio waiting for you should you ever choose.

Best. Mixtape. Evah. Well, so far and not just for the obvious reason for me.

Nearly all the songs were excellent, well apart from the Stephen Seagal stuff ;0). However I hadn't heard the Coconut Records track and that was terrific so I will be investigating further. Even the Scarlett & Mae tracks were interesting, in fact I'd even say that Miss Johanssons song was oddly hypontic. However that Sean Connery effort was beyond awful. I liked Jim Carreys attempt though even if he sounds like an old tramp shouting at the bins in the park.

I would have to disagree with you about the Bond song I'm afraid, my favourite is Thunderball (even though the title is actually gibberish.). You Only Live Twice is in the top five though. But as far as Bond themes are concerned you can't beat The Jet Set's wonderful original Casino Royale. However the ultimate Bond experience for me has to be the fabulous version of OHMSS by David Arnold from the Shaken & Stirred project. Its like a Symphony of Bond! I have a recording engineer friend who can waste hours of your time explaining all the wonderful key changes, the bass & drum lines and clarity of the recording. He always says its the best possible track for testing out your hi-fi and I really love it. In fact I'm listening to it while I type.

And I feel a little guilty that after all your fine efforts the Mighty Bux picked my little suggestion as the basis of the title for the tape. If it makes you feel any better I've had some sort of bug all week and have felt lousy so it really cheered me up.

Off now to buy that Coconut Records CD. Thanks again Bux!

Let's face it all the Bond Songs are Great, well the majority anyway! When you mentioned the theme to the original Casino Royale did you mean the David Niven one with the Burt Bacharach theme? That's a hilarious tune!
No worries on the mixtape name, I was really chuffed for you! It was an excellent name...I had lots of fun coming up with those names, as you could probably tell I'm a bit of a film buff!
Looking forward to the new Muppet Movie already...someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers and me..." I can just picture Kermit in his little swamp - cute!

Re:Jim Carrey - I wanted to hear his version of Jefferson Airplane's 'Somebody To Love' from the Cable Guy soundtrack! I Am The Walrus was definitely him working on his voice for Scrooge in the recent Disney Christmas Carol.

Re:Muppets - does anyone else think the lead vocal on Owl City's 'Fireflies' sounds like Kermit's nephew Robin of 'Halfway Down The Stairs' fame?

yep I meant the David Niven/Woody Allen/Peter Sellers version of Casino Royale. The theme just describes a moment in time so well, you couldn't wish for a more 60s tune. Have you seen the film? Looks like they were all taking some very strong 'cough medicine' when they were making it. It makes no sense at all.
