Enter Shikari - 'Anything Can Happen In The Next Half Hour'
Personally, I blame that 'mashup' stuff...putting one tune to the music of another, and all that. It seems to have given the nation's youth a real taste for mixing musical sounds together in a haphazard fashion. Almost as if they have no idea that guitars ONLY go in either the indie or heavy metal categories, rave synths belong in dance clubs, grunting is only allowed in hip hop, funk, and heavy metal, and wailing in an emotional fashion is strictly for goths, emo-goths, emos, folkies, nu-folkies, emo-folkies, singer-songwriters, soulsters, nu-soulsters, emo-soulsters and goth-emo-soul-folkies. But NO-ONE ELSE, OK?
And that's what is brilliant about this song, it's like getting three different bands in the same room to do a rehearsal, and then instructing them to play songs which are only 30 seconds long, and sometimes to play as if you can hear the other two bands, and sometimes to play as if you can't.
Naturally, an approach like this isn't for the faint-hearted, and the song itself is slow to reveal its melodic charms beyond the initial scalp-scraping YOWCH! of everything playing at once...IN YOUR FACE.
But charms there are, in some of the quiet bits, lurking. They pop their timid faces up towards the sun every now and again, like a fresh hopeful bud blossoming after a nasty storm, before getting cruelled STAMPED back into THE DIRT by the shouty loud bits and the man who can only play the one thing on his Christmas keyboard.
So, in summary, this is all over the place, over-loud, over-quiet, over-EVERYTHING... but it's not as if the title didn't warn everyone this would happen, is it?

Only three stars? Seriously? Enter Shikari rock so much more than that! You can't fully appreciate the amazing-ness of this song unless you've heard it live. They're playing in Hamersmith Palais in London on Saturday 10th March, (this Saturday) you should come along and then re-rate this.. .with 5 stars.

But...but... they're so good live!!!! The original version of this song has much better synth lines though, and it skipped out that line where Chris goes "ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN IN THE NEXT HALF HOUR" in the same voice as the talk-y bit in "Labarynth". That was the best line of the song..
