Dada ft Sandy Rivera & Trix - 'Lollipop'
As any good parent will tell you, the hardest thing to try and explain to young children - who are more self-centred than Mariah Carey eating Mariah Carey-shaped fairy-cakes at Mariah Carey's birthday party - is that it is nice to share your belongings with your brothers and sisters. They understand that it is nice to be given things, they understand that their siblings can help themselves to anything they have already thrown away, but to offer something you have and want in exchange for something someone else has? Well, that's a big leap of faith, innit?
So, in these dark days where every third tabloid editorial is about how today's parents are ruining their children by failing to teach them respect for other people, it's nice that some support comes from the dance arena. It's a surprise, I grant you, cos dance music has never really been all that educational before, but support is support.
Look, they've even tailored their message so that it causes maximum impact. Kids love sweets, right?
"I'll lick your ice-cream, and you can lick my lollipop"
This is a transaction any toddler can get their head around. You've got an ice-cream, I've got a lollipop. I like lollipops AND ice-cream. I can hit you with this fluffy Buzz Lightyear and snatch the cornet, but risk dropping my lolly on the floor in the melee, or we can try and work together somehow...
"Daddy, can you put some music on while I have a think about this? It's a vexing problem and I think a little ambient noise might help me mull things over...
What's this? Disco-house? Something like that? It's nice...Now, to solving this most vexatious of conundrums...WAIT! I THINK I'VE GOT IT!"
So, on behalf of all parents everywhere, can I be the first to thank Mr Dada (see? Even his NAME is child-friendly!) for this valuable musical life-lesson? After all, who says education has to be boring?
PS: SOME people are trying to claim this is a thinly-veiled sexual metaphor, and that the 'lollipop' in question is actually a euphamism for...well...a part of human anatomy. If this is true, we should be even MORE grateful. Where else could you get a song which teaches you sharing, biology AND basic English literature all in one grubby lyric? Give this band state funding and their own school, NOW!

Anyways the review is better than the song. The song isn't bad. I'd run to change the channel if it came on when kids were around though.. kids pick up on innuendo even when it ISN'T there these days.
I agree with Adele that it's summery and sure it definitely has a beat lol, but err.. good lyrics?
