Corenell Vs. Lisa Marie Experience - 'Keep On Jumpin'

CorenellIf someone was to bring out a new loaf of bread which was a mild variation on the good old sliced-white, you'd expect it to sell pretty well, wouldn't you? And Breadmaker's Weekly would write a considered piece about just what it is that sets this new loaf apart from its yeasty brethren. Is it the texture of the slices, is it the soft malty aftertaste? Well whatever it is, it's certainly based in the butter-sponge realm of Things Which Are Bready In Form, right?

Now, suppose that self-same loaf had been launched with a free picture of a girl in her pants on every slice. It's just a pigmentation thing, the bread itself doesn't taste any different as a result of this innovation. Do you think Breadmaker's Weekly will be quite so concerned with matters of flavour and texture? Or will they have to make their minds up whether this is a GOOD THING or a BAD THING and then tailor their work accordingly (all the while knowing that if there's a loaf of bread with saucy ladies on it, some people are going to think it's the best thing since...well, you know....and buy it in lorryloads)?

corenell_150.jpgYep, it's that second option, innit? So, how's a poor music blog sposed to react to yet another dance video stuffed with girls in their pants doing boysy things? This time it's football, as you can see from this still of a woman bum-balling her way to a goal. The song is going to be a big hit, and possibly it would've been anyway, but who can tell now that Team Knickers is here? Talking about the music at this late stage is kind of mad.

So, let's just say this is a reworking of an old rave classic, and is worthy of a listen. Should you want to hear the song and NOT watch the video, try clicking on the face of this lady who doesn't seem to have mastered basic drinking yet, and she will take you to Corenell's MySpace page.

Well I hope so anyway. If bottles of water are beyond her, who knows where you'll end up....

I think this video should be pulled from distribution for two reasons. First, showing sexy adult models in a context that might indicate they are schoolgirls increases the risk of the perception that girls of school age are legitimate objects of sexual attention, potentially increasing the risks to girls of school age. A related risk is of morally corrupting men who have a legitimate interest in sexy women of age and would never think about school-age girls in that way. Second, the competition between light and dark haired women is ill-conceived at best and is open to exploitation by racists. This is only exacerbated by the colours of the footballers clothes. THIS IS A VERY QUESTIONABLE VIDEO. PLEASE REMOVE THIS VIDEO FROM DISTRIBUTION IMMEDIATELY.

In response to Dhugal, and I think I'm qualified to do so as I directed this video...

In no way, shape or form are the women (for they were all at least twenty), alluded to as schoolgirls. Nor are they presented as schoolgirls. Nor do they look like schoolgirls. In fact, the whole suggestion that they even might be schoolgirls is just daft. If you truly believe that this increases the risks (though you fail to qualify what you mean here) to schoolgirls then you indirectly condemn any programming, or visual material that would show women in anything other than full-length iron-grey suits. No Hollyoaks then, No Eastenders then, I suppose Little Britain is off limits as well? How can you possibly accuse this video of morally corrupting men who "have a legitimate interest sexy women of age" - they ARE of age, and this video is designed specifically for those men. You've argued my point for me.

As to the competition between light and dark-haired women... as you may be aware, music video is a visual medium, it thrives on sharp contrasts and visual details. Above and beyond that, women, more so than men, tend to define themselves by the colour of their hair and the response to the casting decision to set blondes against brunettes was overwhelmingly positive. The blondes felt empowered and a sense of sisterhood, defined by their (natural) hair colour. The brunettes likewise. How is this bad? As for the whole racist angle. Only one of the girls is Asian. I apologise. This is a music video, it's a harmless fantastical take on the very male world of football - any attempt to take it as a strong statement on race would be met with hilarity. Much the same as the hilarity with which I read your post, only to discover, shockingly, that you were sincere.

YOURS IS A VERY QUESTIONABLE LINE OF REASONING. PLEASE REMOVE YOUR MISINFORMED, ILL-JUDGED COMMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ARENA IMMEDIATELY.
