Eve - 'Tambourine'
I'm going to try really hard, during the course of this review, to not get over-excited. This is for two reasons. The first is that I really don't want to put anyone off this song by claiming it is some kind of cure for terminal disease when in actual fact it just a song. The second is that I don't want to make a fool of myself, only to discover that the thrill of the music disappears overnight. Some things you just don't recover from.
So, in the spirit of true moderate discourse, can I say that this is a highly enjoyable musical interlude, based around a one-bar sample of a man talking about a tambourine what can only be described as 'a funky manner'. This skeletal refrain has been beefed up with several extremely effective rhythmic additions - whoops, sirens, people shouting "shake!", the rhythm from House Of Pain's immortal 'Jump Around', and what must be the world's first hip hop xylophone break - to create a truly arresting sonic backdrop.
An enticing proposition, wouldn't you say?
And this is in no way to discount Eve's strident contribution, in which she dominates proceedings in a manner which is at one and the same time brusque and enchanting. One could even say that, to a person who has truly lost themselves to the aural delights on offer, it is as though Eve has siezed both ears, and is shouting alternating messages of love and indifference into each one, such is her arresting presence.
Now, some of you may be wondering why, in order to quell the rising tide of excitement, I've starting writing like a Victorian dad. That's just where you end up if you're attempting to convey excitement without the actual excitement. So in case there's not a dictionary to hand, here's the Fraser's Inner Monologue version.
OMG! THIS SO ROCKS! IT ROCKS LIKE...LIKE...LIKE A MUTHA! WHOO! WHOO! WHOO!
(Dammit. I really hope this one doesn't wear off anytime soon...)

Amerie...THIS is how you do it.
I'm loving this song.....right now where's my tambourine.................................
5 Stars??? You are joking right, this song is just more awful junk the same as every other in this genre.
Take a sample of something, anything..... erm let me see how about good morning Vietnam, the phrase from the film.
Then well make a song that'll go...
Good morning
good morning
GOOD MORNING VIETNAM
With a dodgy baseline, some sexy dancers and then some dreadful half thought about lyrics, give the singer a random'street' name then make a fortune.
Sorry but this is unoriginal, un-thoughtful, uninspiring drival.
I don't even think the people who made it would have the nerve to even call themselves 'artists' more like borrowers or re-hashers lol.
1 out of 5
[You can't think Eve is a 'street' name, surely? I'm not sure they had streets in the garden of Eden - Fraser]
Ha ha nope I was just generalising (probably too much as I do).
i like this song its boss
Now see, this is a perfect example of how hippity hop producers make huge amounts of cash to splash out on brandy, pimpmobiles and really, really bad footwear.
Write a 20 second loop which the entire world will buy as a ringtone, then buy a bigger house for storing all your cash in.
But why they feel the need to then repeat it a dozen times and pretend it's a song, I do not know.
Amerie - this is not how to do it.
But I'm all in favour of tambourines, so I'll let it slide. Now if they'd added handclaps....
y is everyone dissin this song?? its ace! luvvin the tambourine in the melody. haha it rocks guys xxx
Priya it just a difference of opinion, everyone is different its what makes us all unique and the world a much more interesting place ;)
I think its also cool that the ´óÏó´«Ã½ lets people have their own views too.
[Do we? SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THIS! - Fraser]
I like this song it is catchy and you can shake your bum to it. It doesn't have to make sense or be deep and meaningful, its just fun. I really like it!!!!!
This is really fun and cool. It makes me want to dance! And TV Dude, Eve is a street name???
This is dedicated to TV dude! I know that alot of people love hearing good and meaningful lyrics, however sometimes there is nothing better then just blocking them out and listening to the beat and base and having a good boogie. and i completely agree qith crazee horse that its just a fun catchy song to have a boogie to! x
