1 - Basshunter - 'Now You're Gone'

BasshunterChartSnipe: Second week at the top for the 'Hunter who killed Leon Jackson, and now he has his powerful bass gun fixed on Adele, Rihanna, Lupe Fiasco and Britney. Not that Britney needs any help in the destruction stakes, you understand. 'Piece Of Me' is becoming less defiant and more prophetic with every passing day. I mean first of all it was just an invitation to a fight, but now it's like the song is demanding "do you WANT me in pieces? And if so, are you prepared to help clean them all up?". Possibly another No.1 record is not what she needs right now, so there's another reason to be grateful to this song right there. (FM)

2 - Adele - 'Chasing Pavements'
AdeleChartSnipe: The trick with chasing pavements is not to get put off or confused by a fork in the road, or a sudden dead end. Experienced pavement chasers will tell you these things are an occupational hazard, one that everyone has to learn how to deal with. That thing about stepping on a crack is true though, so watch out! (FM)

3 - Britney Spears - 'Piece Of Me'
Britney SpearsChartSnipe: ChartBlog's very own Hazel Robinson has pointed out that the brilliant thing about this song is that the title line "you want a piece of me" is both a fight-starting question AND a bald statement of the facts. Hell, it could even be an order too. And a sarcastic, self-mocking quip, something along the lines of "hey, look at all the crazy stuff I do, am I REALLY worth all this attention?". That's art, that is. (FM)

=======================

4 - Lupe Fiasco ft. Matthew Santos - 'Superstar'
Lupe FiascoChartSnipe: Last week's No.4 position was occupied by a 'Rock Star', and now here's a 'Superstar' in the exact same space. This can only mean that next week there will be a song about a megastar, and the week after that, something about a supernova (in the sky). After this, there will just be a black hole where No.4 used to be, and the numbers 3 and 5 will start to look a bit frayed around their perimiter edges. Do you see what forces you've unleashed with your mild sarcasm, Nickelback? (FM)

=======================

5 - Rihanna - 'Don't Stop The Music'

RihannaChartSnipe: Should you ever find yourself in the awful position of becoming bored with this song, why not do as I do, and re-imagine the title, using the medium of puns. So far, I've managed to entertain myself with 'Don't Stop Them You Seek' - the sort of advice you'd get from a guru with a very poor grasp of the English language - and 'Don't Stop, The Emu's Sick'. There's also the similar but different 'Don't Stop The Emu Sick', which is gross, but kind of lively if you're really, really bored. (FM)
