And in the beginning there wasa...
...GENESIS competition.
Ok this is the first ever blog exclusive. (By the way, been doing quick stops down a grass runway all morning and I'm feeling a bit giddy.) Between you and i we're giving away two tickets to go and see Genesis in Belgium. you meet them, see them rehearse and everything, I've just been told about it right now by a nice lady called sarah who works down the corridor. That's all the exclusive you get as you now know as much as I do. How one wins and when it's all happening they haven't told me yet. i don't know why not surely they don't think i'm going to tell anyone. Ha ha !
Will this weather please get the hell outta here, it's driving me to too much tea and Cadbury's chocolate fingers.
Naughty Nick, the most handsome man in the world as just asked the manageress of my restaurant out for dinner after they met last weekend at the CHILDREN IN NEED bash. She rang me and asked what should she do. i said go, what d'ya think ? Oh no I'm involved, I don't want to be involved. If it goes well maybe she can persuade Nick to do a couple of extra shifts at a cut price rate. He'd have the Surrey Ladies falling over themselves to get in the place.
He's a vicar's son, she is a Danish Goddess. I can't wait for the wedding !
Lots of love gang.

Mr Rutherford of Genesis axe-wielding fame is another of our local stars who frequent the nearby hostelries.
Never really could get into the music though.

I remembered how to win a game of squash (not salsa) last night. Leaping around the court like a gazelle and playing the sort of game you'd expect from a Playstation incarnation of Jahinger Khan.
In my dreams. It was just my opponent was carrying more injuries than me.

Hi
Just to let you know, if your interested, I won`t be blogging here anymore. Or tuning in. I`ve got my reasons and I`ve got to move on.
A big thank you to everyone who offered thier support with my drinking habit, especialy those before Chris`s comments. Now, I`m not sure it was even me that Chris was talking about on the 8th March blog, re drinking. It was a freind of his by the same name. Sorry about that folkes.
Hope everyone is well, if not, getting well and that everyone is making the most of life.
Happy blogging.
Martin xx
Ahhh young love how exciting it all was once upon a time.
Although I met a couple this weekend in their late 40's who got married on Saturday. They seemed very happy indeed although rather old fashioned. They had the reception here and the waitress had an accident and poured Champagne down the back of her dress.
My advice would be live in gin sorry sin.
Good Evening
Hi Martin
I'm sorry to hear you don't want to blog and respect your reasons for doing so, can I just ask how can you be so sure that Chris's msg wasn't for you?
Take good care of yourself, and even though you may not post or lurk I will continue to send out positive thoughts to you.
I wish you the very best of health, luck and happiness for the future.
Lots of love

Hiya Christoph
Cupid, draw back your bow, and let your arrow go! Wehey Chris, Are you starting your own dating agency ? Could be interesting new venture for you !!! My sister is currently single and could be your first customer !! Me and my daughter made bread together tonight for the first time and she said I'm a yummy mummy !! I love it when they say things like that !! Keep up the good work! Love C
Greetings,
Just a quickie to say "live long and propser" to Martin James. If you have to go, you have to go but take care matey.

Hi all,
Martin - sorry you feel that way but you must do what you have to do - we will miss you.
Chris - you just can't help matchmaking can you?! I fixed up two people I used to work with and they got married with me as bridesmaid. I think it must have been 16 years ago and they're still together! Isn't it Jane Austen's Emma who thinks she's a great matchmaker? It must be in the name!
Gingembre - good luck back at work, take it easy though.
Missy - glad your weekend went well, I am so glad we camped last week as this weekend looks rubbish.
My eldest son has SATS next week so I would love to do something nice on the following weekend - anyone got any ideas?
Em xx
PS Goodbye Tone - I thought you were quite a nice bloke xx
Hi, Chris,
Just got back from a 4 day girlie weekend with my friend Caroline. We went to Spain!! very sunny & hot. Why don't you send all of your paint pots to your local hospital as the children play carers are always wanting them for the sprogs on the wards to keep them interested and busy. All you and everybody has to do is ring your local hospital and ask to be put through to the childrens ward & off you go.Great show.Gail xx
Genesis, romance.... all very interesting, but tell us more about the quick stops!!! Were they into wind or down wind? How fast were you running in? How high off the deck? Do you have to say "quick stop, quick stop, GO!" I'm jealous.
Fly safe
ps I think we'll miss Tony once he's gone
Hi Guys,
Just popping in to say a la Granny Weatherwax style - 'I aint dead'.
New job is keeping me very busy, and my personal tinterweb connection has gorn on t'blink - mainly due to not paying extortion fees. Ho hum, I get my first proper pay packet in 4 years in 2 weeks time, so I can then get round to paying for the priviledge of being a number, not a human being and also for the great pleasure I get from receiving extremely poor quality customer service by the medium known as 'automated phone response unit' which never has the option of talking to another person, ohh and not to mention still having to pay national rate while being on hold waiting to not speak to anybody that wouldn't be able to help me. Why do we let the big businesses get away with it? It really is quite insane.
And breathe....
Anyway, I hope you are all well. Martin, take care of yourself if you can - if not find somebody to do it for you. You can always drop by unannounced if you felt the need.
I shall be returning to normal service once I have regained any kind of service back at home, but for now, til then (or sooner)
Seizure,
MW, a!
PS- Spirit of Radio by Rush is an exceedingly excellent opening track for any radio show though admittedly not their best work. However, it is more consumer friendly than a lot of their other stuff. Just my humble....
Hecky Thump, look at the time but just reading the blog and had to say to Martin James.
Martin ,I hope you move on to better times in your life. Remember that alot of people out there are not blistfully happy with their life for one reason or another. Be strong lifes a long song.
It has sharps and flats, sometimes happy sometimes sad.
So hope yours has a change of key.
I think the blog is a great idea especially for somebody as busy as Mr Evans.
Genesis! That takes me back, though not as far as some!
The first album that I bought, in my very young days, was And Then There Were Three in 1978, a bit of a turning point for the band after the departure of Steve Hackett and earlier Peter Gabriel.
In many ways a thourghly depressing record, of love and loss and change and uncertainty; the hit single Many To Many drew me towards the band for the first time, appealing to the dark brooding mood of the young teen that I then was - "Many too many have stood where I stand, Many more will stand here too".
At about the same time in history I also recall relating to Dr David Banner and David Carradine walking alone into the sunset in the closing titles of their respective '70's TV series!
But Genesis were re born , came back and went on from strength to strength (Abacab Tour 1981 - brilliant!) and the Incredible Hulk and Kung Fu came back each week to kick ass and make the world a better place.
And that's life, when you're down look up, grab hold of what may seem to be small pleasures and let them multiply. Its amazing some of the things that can make you happy that cost nothing at all - I was annoyed with myself the other for getting a real buzz about the fact that the clothes dryer had been folded up and I didnt have to manouver it out of the way to get to the toilet !
Martin, everyone's life is crap to some degree, the trick of the tale is to focus on the good bits. By all means walk off into the sunset, but there's no reason at all why you shouldnt be back fighting again next week.
Have a good day.
CLP I'm gutted! (but so will most of the female single population of the blog)....
Martin- take care mate.
Genesis....in Belgium....with lots of hot chocolate...and meeting the band.... put my name down!

And CHRIS! We are having a blogbaby (well Jo is, and now SammyM, and possibly others...), so why not an ex and present staff wedding? Although I can feel some gun-jumping going on, it's only dinner...may be it's not quite worth a phone call to Philip Treacy just yet...
...although, I know what I like in your wardrobe, and I will follow you, if you follow me, but I can't dance. Please can I go with Lyndyloo?
It's all change for Noshable Nick, and for a lot of us...just a matter of taking the chocolate finger out of our mouths, and getting the bit between our teeth instead!
Good luck Nick! Don't order the spinach...
...and the other one...
...Martin, when you gotta go you gotta go mate. I'll let the birdies and the bunnies know that you think of them, and I'll name one for you when the babies start fledging.
If you are fledging, you fly as high and as far as you can, and I wish you all the very best for the future, love, hazel x

Martin, if you read this
Following your blog I had to go back to March 8th and read what happened as I was on holiday during this period. I can only say phew!
If you don't blog anymore fair enough, your call, but please remember this, we are thinking of you!
You must do what you must do, but don't let it be bottle shaped!
Take care my friend!

PS Rachel you had me in tears! xxx
Hi all
Many thanks for all your very kind words. I will still be here but probably not everyday due to working 12hour shifts days and nights!
At work at the mo' so need to be quick.
Thanks again...

Chris.............if manageress declines, I will go in her place : )
Martin.......I think about you often and hope that you are ok. You should hold your head high at how well you are doing. Walk out of your front door today liking yourself more because you should like yourself. You are doing great. If you decide to return you know you will be received with many, many open and welcoming arms. Half a day at a time, my friend.

Chris,
Vis a vis my dinner date with Nice Nic in lieu of manageress......just to let you know about my diary commitments.......I AM FREE : )
Gaby
Martin,
I, along with many others, am sure that CLP was speaking to you way back when. Also, like many others, I'm sorry to see you go but wish you every success in the future.
Harl said it well - life is difficult at times but we have to just take those moments of joy as and when they happen.
An addiction like alcoholism is perhaps one of the very hardest to endure because drink works well in covering up that what we wish hidden, it is socially very acceptable, and it's good fun. I lost a dear friend to the disease and I think of him often. His memory still brightens my day - but I so wish I could be laughing with him instead of the rueful smiles.
Take care and please ask the universe to help you in your life.
jx
Just want to say to Martin - I can't help but read between the lines in your comment. You know, we all need other people in our lives - even if it's just the people on this blog, or even if it's just Chris Evans on the radio.
I really feel you are not in a good place, Martin and I would say to you the last thing in need is to be alone.
If I have the wrong end of the stick, I apologise. If you do have to go in order to change your life, then I wish you all the very best.
Take care.

oh no,
my second post has appeared, and my first has not which means that the post that has appeared makes no sense ("no change there then", I hear you cry)......
....more importantly, I had posted a reply to Martin.....BP, please please post my first post and if you will please put it above the second one.

Happy/Sad?
Bitter/Sweet?
Today is my 11th wedding anniversary. Mr Diva and I exchanged cards and hugs this morning and we're still as much in love (possibly more so!) than the day we plighted our troth before friends and family.
All's perfect. But ....
Tonight I have to attend a black tie dinner dance thru work, which is staff only and I'm being put up in a hotel etc etc going home in the morning.
As much as I'm looking forward to getting all poshed up and glam, I really, really, really wish my lovely man was going to be with me or that the 'bash' was on another night.
Ho hum - such is life. I keep telling myself there will be other anniversaries / it's just another day blah blah blah but ......
Have good weekends all bloggers.
Mr Diva - T'amore!
PS: Do you think CLP would play Kiss's "You're Everything To Me" - this was our first dance song at our nuptuals!
Morning all. OOOH Naughty Nick & Manageress, sitting in a tree, k*i*s*s*i*n*g!!!!!!!
Martin - take it easy. The beauty of this blog is that no-one judges anyone - we just share stuff. Don't be too hard on yourself - one step at a time.
CtD - happy anniversary! Posh work do's, got to be better than waste disposal!!
Could we have Copperhead Road by Steve Earle????? FAB tune, really rocks!
If I don't get on again have great weekends all, whatever you're up to!
xxxx
No What.
When you used to be on breakfast you used to do this thing that made you almost cry with laughter, and me pee in the same way while driving to work.
You used to have "interviews" with guests, and you asked them questions, and the answers were lines from their songs. The ones I remember best were, "so Michael (Stipe), I can't see you in this picture...where are you", and he says, "that's me in the corner". ha ha ha ha it still makes me giggle. Or Mick Hucknell, "hows the finances Mick" "money's too tight to mention.
Do it again Christof please.... make me giggle on the way home.
DOGWITHNOBRAIN
Cheers Tinsel ... and you're right: posh work 'dos' much much better than inhaling landfill gas all day!
Looking out of my window at this very moment I can see trees blowing in the breeze with fields beyond. The air is clean. The drive is shorter. The people are human!
Have emailed in for ARF - wonder if I'll get picked?
CtD x x
CLP - you're ever so slightly mad, I think! But, I do like it!
Martin - Good luck.
CtD - Congratumalations to you and Mr CtD! {{}}
ARF already - where does the time go? One minute, it's Monday (or Tues this week) and the next - it's the weekend! Mind you - the Bank Holiday has thrown me somewhat this week!
J - the more 'invasive' kind is psychoanalytical (I think) and probes very deeply - very scary!
Have a funky Friday all - will dip in again later.
S xx.
CtD, Happy anniversary! What a shame you have go to the "do" without your man, but you'll be o.k. once you are there. Isn't it great that you feel your love is actually growing after 11 years?! Honestly, I love my husband more now than ever, and that's after 31 years - so it just gets better and better!

Em M - went to new ice skating rink at Sp Village last week - 10yr old daughter loved it.
Martin - all the best mate
Work going well so far, taking it easy and drinking far too much coffee. Didn't realise how much I'd missed the banter of being here.
CLP - re: being too busy for tv - having been off for weeks and watching far too many repeats on obscure channels what are the chances of a few TFI - or even better Toothbrush - repeats???
I promise I'll even flick my lightswitch!
Off to Des Amis for dinner tonight with in-laws (my reward for painting their spareroom and doing a few odd jobs) - sorry for those out of Norwich who won't have aclue where that is... I promise it's gorgeous....

Hello all
Genesis - my second favourite band of all time, after Bucks Fizz. Their progressive sounds still light up my life on a near-daily basis. What I would give to have the opportunity to meet them in person...
It's unlikely I'll win any competition. The last time I won something I was accused of being a cheat by some fellow school-children who thought they saw me tampering with the opponents ping-pong ball at a friendly table-tennis tournament. The truth was that I thought they had stolen our ball, which I had specially modified to impro...
oh, I think I should stop there.

Yo Chris & ALL Blog friends,
Bingo Star ere.
Christoff, oh my goodness gracious what a BIG opener on yesterday's show. The Loaf mega wroca!!
I nearly blew me speakers clean off the wall. After 7 mins of the tune they were hot, after 9 they were smokin' - am tellin' yer Christoff man.
What a coincidence playing the Loaf- it was going one of his gigs that persuaded me to take up the electric guitar. I remember watching his guitarist with me hairs standing up on the back of me neck thinking i've just got to do that.
Life Is A Lemon & I Want My Money Back is my favourite tune by him. It goes on for 7mins and the way his guitarist gently works the guitar in that tune is amazing. Plus the Loaf's vocals are brilliant- powerful and with a sense of humour!
If anybody hasn't seen Meat live believe me you really should check him out- BRILLIANT live!
Chris I seem to remember you went to see him last year at the Albert Hall, so you probally know what I'm on about.
Talkin' of the Loaf, Chris, remember last year's celebrity golf tournament which you & Meat played in. That was so funny- I hope there's another this year. I remember all four of you teeing off all together- harlarious.
I'm a pretty keen flexer of the old shaft meself. Nothing more fun than striking yer balls 180 down the middle, or in my case into the nearest bunker.
Why is it with golf when your aiming for a 80 by 70 foot wide green do yer always end up in a 10 by 4 foot bunker?
My philosophy is aim for the bunker instead and it will go on the green. Only thing.... it's the one time yer hit it were yer aiming and you guessed it.... it goes in the bunker.
I can't take this stress anymore blog friends- am tellin' yer.
Anybody got some spare valiumn- I need some urgently!!!
Christoff, I bet your not daring enough to open ternight's show with some Greenday or Darkness mega Wrock!
Mind u it is Friday. Aye Chris the Darkness have got a brilliant tune called FRIDAY NIGHT and with no swearing in this one- safe to play friend. That one would be perfect for a Fri show.
You got to be careful with some of these big wrock tunes. Some are a bit naughty.
Chow til next time blog dudes!
Just wanted to wish Martin all the very best.
Keep off the drink mate, keep your mind and body busy.
A man that dies contented is a man that has lived a life to the full.

Hi Everyone and thanks SO much for the slug ideas. Am gonna try the seaweed as we live near to the sea and it will be a great thing for my grandsons to help me collect. Also, as it was the topic on last nights show and I may just have a nibble at some myself.
Love you all

it must be a chicken leg wedding thats the reception not to marry a chicken leg
Martin mate - drink makes you paranoid - are you back on the sauce?
gingembre - I have lived in Norfolk all my life and had never heard of Des Amis so I googled it. The food sounds gorgeous and I see you get a mention in the menu! Pretty pricey though, I bet you're glad you're not paying!
Have a great weekend everyone, taking the kids to ride their bikes tomorrow and then going to some friends on Sunday for food, drink and lots of argumentative games of Cranium!
Have a good one everyone,
Em xx
Mariella, I did have my suspicions. There's been a really brave bunny rabbit round here lately. And it smells of very expensive conditioner.
Anyhoo, CtD, I am off on a works drink up this evening. Most definitely not black tie, although possibly greasy sleeve, and I will also be home tomorrow morning. The boy will be in bed having worked tonight, so I expect I shall just join him.
It's a shame you're missing your anniversary, but sometimes it's the celebration that counts rather than the day/te, so you'll just have to make sure that you have a super spiffy weekend with Mr D instead...and don't forget, it isn't tomorrow until you've been to sleep, so you may just be able to carry on with today when you get home anyway!
Worn art just finking abart it Billy!
Have great weekends all - the sun will come out tomorrow

I said I wouldn`t blog again, but, after reading all the comments and genuine nice thoughts from people, it makes me realise what a great careing community this blog has. Thanks. So; this is the last blog!
Your right Susie Mac, drinking can mess you up a lot. The latest I heard was that it shrinks the brain! I learnt a lot in rehab about it`s effects on the body. Considering - I`m reasonably in tact.
Blogging is a bit addictive, a bit like CLP.
Wishing everyone a Happy Friday and Good Weekend.
M xx
PS I think I`m barred from all request Friday! lol But if anyone gets through, how about an appropriate song for the bloggers?
Please can you tell me when you are holding the Genesis competition???
Hiya,
Could you please tell me what the phone number is for the Genesis competition?
Please---what's the tune Chris is playing on a short TV preview at the moment?
