INDEBTED AS ALWAYS

Chris Evans | 15:49 UK time, Thursday, 5 July 2007

Sticks and stones will break my bones but...

...stocks and shares will never hurt me.

how's about we all put a pound in and see how much we can make on the stock market, over the next few years.

I saw a documentary last night on Warren Buffet, the most successful investor ever ! His philosophy is to only invest in things that he uses, thus he will always know there's a demand for the products he backs. Bill Gates met him ans ais he was the smartest guy he's ever come across.

Such a nice chap too, he says it's all about people, oh how right he is.

I've started doing a very similar thing and not only does it appear to be working but it's so much fun.

Had two hours to kill today so I went to the cinema and watched SHREK 3, it was bloody brilliant, by the way I'm getting Austin Powers withdrawal, isn't it about time there was another one about.

Tea time peeps.

I'm glad you said Shrek 3 was brilliant...it hadn't been getting rave reviews and I was upset for the poor wee thing!

I fear I will bow out of the investing £1 bit...I have such bad luck I seem incapable of spotting trends - and the things I like - no one else does! Cliffy, Sound of Music, Jim Steinman....see? I just don't have it quite right.

But I'm happy in my slightly wierd world.

Still inundated with slugs...they've now moved from the vegetables, which they've eaten - to my petunias!

Stocks and shares scare me (as I don't really understand them), I just imagine I'll lose loads....my father-in-law is into all that so maybe we'll have a chat about it over dinner one day, I'll still be none the wiser but might venture into it. I like the idea of onhly buying into things you use - genius.

Whilst you were away on your recent hols Chris, it was suggested we try to break the blog entry record.... well I don't know what the least amount ever is but boy was it quiet yesterday - only 22 and 3 of those were me!!!!!

Perhaps it was one of those no news days.

Back to work tomorrow so I'll dip in and out as best I can for the next few days. Knee's still feeling stiff, sore and weak so I'll be sure to take it easy (if that's possible)

Have a great weekend all you out there, the sun is still shining on Norwich today..... I've put in my order for a few more days worth.

CLP - the sheer luxury of cinema in the middle of the day AND when the rugrats are still at school! Bliss .... good on ya, but I'm dead jealous!

Mr Diva and I saw Shrek 2 at a cinema on a Saturday afternoon and there were so many vile teenagers in there, not particularly watching the film - they mostly spent the duration of the film throwing mobile phones around, texting ring-tones and naughty photos to eachother, getting up endlessly for hotdogs, popcorn, the loo .... anyhooooo after the film ended I was really brave and complained to "the management" - and to give them their dues, they gave us cinema vouchers by way of repayment so that we could visit again at no cost. Sweet! (It still spoilt Shrek 2 tho!!)

I've been reconciling credit card statements against receipts all day. Its certainly all hands on deck at my new job. I guess that's the biggie between working for a large organisation with everyone packed in their "I only do this" silos, and small company where you have to multi-task whether you like it or not. Just so happens, I like it!

Off to the nail bar tonight to have my talons cut down (acrylic, not real!!!) Mr Diva is cooking the dinner - salad off the beloved allotment, so not too much to cook there then!

I made a gooseberry clafoutis last night with gooseberries from said allotment - fantastic! Nigella rocks - cheers for the recipe Mrs Satchii!

Right, back to the credit card slips ..... almost the weekend!

PS: Mr Diva bought some eggs and the vendor claims they're all double yolkers. How do they know before they hatch that they're double yolkers????? Answers on a postcard (or blog) please ....

I can take or leave Shrek and Mike Myers. I quite liked Wayne's World at the time and I have seen the first two Shreks on DVD, but I won't be rushing down to the flicks for that one.

Next week I will definitely be going to see Harry Potter, and I can't WAIT for the new book to come out, just in time for my hols! My son and I will be fighting over it and i think I'm going to let him read it first as long as he's done OK in his SATS!
I'm reading We Need To Talk About Kevin at the moment, not the most cheerful book (about the mother of a teenage killer) and I find I dread picking it up. I love reading all sorts of books, but I prefer ones that make you feel happy. Marian Keyes is my fave, she makes me laugh out loud, she's just brilliant. For something a bit heavier, I like Sarah Waters, Fingersmith was wonderful. What do you all like reading?

Very interesting person Warren Buffet. I've read that he started investing with just $100 in the 1950's which I suppose terday would be more like $10,000. Slowly, well actually fastly, he has built it up to something like $40 or $50billion. It just goes to show if yer in the right place at the right time yer can make a fortune. Mr Buffet I believe got into Microsoft & McDonalds when they were very small companies and has stayed with them since. I read that something like £100 invested in Microsoft when it first started would be worth over £3million now- crayzeeeee!!! - am tellin yer blog dudes!
Chris man, like I keep saying Tanfield is my favourite stock at the moment. I agree with Mr Buffet to by in large companies and hold but you've got to get a large amount of money in the first place, too make a big difference, which is what 'e 'ad after accumilating alot through Micro & McD's.
My philosiphy is while a hot stock is thrusting forth get in it while it is, as Tanfield is. Then if it turns bad get out, as many do, and look for another hottie- know what am sayin!
But if you get very lucky like Mr Buffet did originally then just hold over 10, 20 years, whatever, and you could make millions- but it's very rare to find such hugely growing companies as Microsoft!

Gingembre - thanks for your comment yesterday about me comment yesterday- You say was she worth it?- I believe she's been in 29 L'Oreal adverts so she's definately is worth it!!! Actually I don't know if she has been in any L'Oreal adverts at all but she's still worth it anyway - sorry i'm getting confused now! It ain't take much ter confuse the Bingo brain.

As for freeing meself - it took me 6 hours ter get free. I've got Rod Stewart ter thank. It's only when he kicked one of 'is balls at me that I jumped back thus freeing meself.

    Debbie.

Welcome to our little cyber community.

I, like many others here, have been able to use this forum as a means of 'self-therapy' over the past year or so. On many occasions I have found a little solace here when I have been feeling less than fantastic about life, so it is always heartening to know that others do the same.

Live Earth. The odd moment of brilliance, but on the whole it was let down by poor sound quality and, I'm sorry to say, poor coverage by Auntie. I mean, fancy cutting away from Metallica as they went into Enter Sandman! Still, the Foos were awesome and feel inspired enough to dig out my old Beastie's CDs when I get home this evening.

Any news on CLP's weekend activities?

    Peace & love

How is everyone today. Sorry about your piles HL.. then can be very painful I hear.

I hope CLP had a great long weekend, I guess a day in leiu was due after having to work on The Di concert over the last weekend, double time I hope.
Didn't see much of the live earth thingy except for Madonna who I thought was a sensation.

Message for Debbie.. If life was perfect it would be very boring.

    Hi Bloggers

Not been on here for AGES, computer at home takes an hour to spring into life and frankly just couldn't be bothered to wait - Sorry chaps!

Anyway there is light at the end of my tunnel of pure misery and morning sickness (who the hell called it that, more like 'ok in the morning but a downhill spiral to an evening of wretching at every single cooking smell' sickness - can't see why thats not caught on!!!)

We had our scan last week and I'm now 14 weeks preggers, it doesn't seem that long ago that I shared my little secret with you all. Now everyone knows, well aprt from work, as its quitre a dodgy situation as we're merging with a new company at the end of Aug so I don't want it to affect any future job ops!!!

Charlie is very exited, although he does keep telling everyone that Mommy has got a baby lion in her tummy - i think he will be a little dissappointed.

Hope the weekend went well Chris - Whatever you and GotS got up to!

Heres to a sunny week - Hopefully!

    Hi Debbie,

Welcome to the blog, we're pretty friendly on here and some of us pour out our hearts every so often.

Weekend was OK, eldest son is 11 tomorrow so he went to see Shrek 3 with his friends and his dad while I went shopping for presents for him and all the other people who have birthdays in July. Watched some of Live Earth, thought Madonna was great and also really enjoyed the Pussycat Dolls and Paolo Nutini. Yesterday tried to get my head round my paperwork and then made my son cry by forcing him to do his project. Finished We Need To Talk About Kevin last night, really horrible, am quite glad its over.

Chris, hope you had an exciting (!?@) weekend.

    CU @ 5,

Morning folks (I'm on 7pm-7am nights at the mo so it's morning on my world!)

Big hello to Debbie, we're a nice bunch, look forward to reading your postings soon. It's good to open up on here every so often, you get great unbiased advice. Plus there are some hilarious bloggers too which is ace when you're a bit down.

HL - so you've met Nobby Stiles eh? Get the cream and I'll send you a rubber ring to sit on!

Haven't got a hug load to say as I'm a bit spaced out thro' lack of sleep and body clock not quite right today (I hear it's Monday?)

Thought The Fed was great to win 5 in a row, mind you the Spaniard is getting very close, very quickly......great final. Unlucky Lewis, shows just how far he's come when 3rd feels like a let down. As usual the British public/press have built him up far too much too soon. Give him time and he could be as good as, or even better than Schuey?

Have to go now, the sun is streaming into the house which is a ovely sight/feeling but I'm actually going to try and sleep some more.

Hello All inc. CLP (and Debs)

I too am in for a pound - I'm so bored with working really hard and still not having any money to show for it...

Got a new venture on the go so maybe that will pay dividends in the end. I don't want much but I would like to have my own house, car which is fairly new and reliable and not have to panic when the bills come in - not too much to ask I wouldn't have thought.

Got three lots of minutes to produce from Friday's meetings so better get on with it.

    Lovely week to us all,

Dahlings, thank you SO much for caring...took me a minute to work out Nobby Stiles. Had to use a pencil in the end.

Was also confused as drove to work behind a Nobby's Nuts van this morning.

Anyhoo, bless you all...I've akshully finished all the piles now! It's amazing what you can put your mind to when you bother, and when your PC is being PC with the network, and I don't have to throw all my toys ootp every four secs due to paddy attack because the system is so cr@p etc etc...like I said, amazing...

Boss surprised I have dun filin (this is probably going to be the name of the Badger Sett Retirement Cottage if we ever do. Retire, that is or dun ceilin, or dun badgerin I s'pose even) and I am hoping the surprise isn't because I haven't really finished the aforementioned, and there are going to be more pilesafilin awaitin filin. But in the meantime...

Akshully sun is art, so am gonna have a swift cig because I can...

Nev, thanks for the tip mate! You know the thing though, the boy'd say 'Oh, lets givvit a go lads' and his mate (lovely but a bit of a wimp) would say 'OOOH look there's a little train, lte's get the little train!' So as I said, thanks for the tip. Still haven't heard anything re the homecoming. They're probably trying to get enough change together to get back across the Severn!

    Good afternoon everyone.

Welcome Debbie, I too am a newbie I read alot but don't enter an entry very often. The entries on here are superb for raising spirits, blowing away the cobwebs of the mind and generally fun.

I had a very busy weekend with Wareham Carnival on Sunday which was preceeded by a procession of big bikes from Christchurch I believe - I was on collecting duty and walking the route having fun. The Guggi band from Ringwood was awsome - if anyone knows them say thanks for their entertainment.

The weather down here on the coast was sun, sun and more sun, we did get a little rain overnight last night though and I still have the lawns to mow.

I'm trying to arrange a test drive (all day) from a local friendly garage in WSM for a tigra with the metal roof that comes down..... ooooer

Will let you know how it goes unless people out in blog land know of a better classy small car with the roof that comes down - not peugot though please.

    Cheers
