BLOG THREE EIGHT O FOUR

Chris Evans | 14:34 UK time, Monday, 9 June 2008

Jees, have you been postin' or what ? So back and...

...bigger. Actually that's not true.

For the first time in a long time I discovered that holidays are not about decadence. A crime paid for by simply having to cope with real life afterwards but weaker, older, saggier.

No indeed, not at all, this break was entirely that - a "break."

One beer a day ! Just the one. Before dinner, every night. Ice cold mind. And here's the thing, the less I had, the less I wanted, the more I enjoyed it and the more I had about me for the next day too.

Life really is so simple when you remember to forget about it.

So many things have gone on n'est ce pas ?

Fern and her gastric band, The Queen telling young Ms. Middleton to get a job, Lewis failing to stop at a red light, oh and I could go on and on.

Now I have to confess there is no way I have time to read over a thousand posts, so... a summary please, three blog hi-ites back please. No more, no cheating, you have been warned.

CLP.

2008.

X.

P.S. Will Ronaldo stay at United ? Not unless they pay him £180 grand a week he won't. Would you ?

"a summary please, three blog hi-ites back please."

Sorry, CLP, just don't understand what that means...

But my summary is bit o' flirting, bit o' chatting and bit o' life.

    Will that do.

A huge welcome back. How do you summarise a kaleidoscope of life? You don't.

I am sure you have a few free evening this week to dip into the toing and froing of your bloggers.

Print it and put it in the smallest room in the house and read when the opportunity arises.

  • Comment number 6.

Thought I'd better add a disclaimer to my previous posting: My thoughts in no way suggest that the smallest room of the house is the most suitable place for the thoughts and words here. With Chris' busy life it may be the only place he can get to read it!!!!!!!!

So good to have you back the posts have been great while you were away and the gang did well to get it over 1000 lots of good banter .

Glad to hear you were only on 1 beer a day was there any reason for this or were you just trying to be a good boy for your new wife

p.s How is the new house coming on and more importantly how is ENZO???

  • Comment number 8.

Great idea durbangirl - have you got a little room yet CLP?

Summary - you've got to be joking -although we did have a "virtual" engagement followed by a virtual tiff and a millenium party with fireworks! See what you have been missing?

ps. what sort of pie Jen? te he

coco - have a rant about something if you like? might feel better?

  • Comment number 9.

Jen, think your summary is great!! And yours Beesmum!!

We had a giggle Christophe, we kept each other company till the wee small hours and all the girls fell in love ...

Not sure I am commfortable with the small doings of my life being perused by Chris in his smallest room...not sure he would be either - still at least you'd have a lot of reusable paper -if you know what I mean...welcome back Chris...we have been waiting for you :)

    3 Highlights

    we reached a 1000!!!!
    there are loads new members

    Greetings and Salutations from Vancouver,

Well, I am finally back in Canada and in the swing of things after my visit home to Blighty. From the moment I strolled through the arrival gate at Heathrow to the moment I left, the entire visit was a triumph.

Seeing my family, as ever, was blissful. From my brother and his wife, sister, parents, nephews, nieces to my dear old last remaining grandma, everyone was in tip top form.

Yes, I over indulged in Marks and Sparks delicacies, real ale and crisps, pork pies and more...whilst we also enjoyed a truly memorable dining experience at Ramsay's Maze, hiked in the Lakes, spent time meandering around London, drank in the beauty of Scotland and generally enjoyed life with the wonderful woman I have the honour of calling my girlfriend.

So, on my return, I arrived to an email inviting me for a meeting with another company...I won't go into it now, but this could be a dream job so it would be rude not to look into it....;-)

I hope and trust each and every one of you are well and thank you all for your kind words and a continued sense of camaraderie and entente cordiale that so shapes this forum.

Tally ho and a good day to all.

    Dr. T.

    Hi Chris
Welcome back, I missed you so much, and I also think that Sally did as well. She was not her usual happy self. You are going to have to work 52 weeks of the year, unless the beeb can find you, a better replacement.

Dr T welcome back!- just one post when you got here then it all went quiet? Not surprised with all you packed in! Glad you had a good one.

PS: Is Johny Saunders back today too? Drivetime hit a nadir last Weds (either its nadir, or most hilarious interview to date) when the stand-in sports monkey interview went something like this:-

Sports Monkey: Our guest in the locker is downhill mountain-biking champion .... (name escapes me)

..... good evening (name). So, what exactly does downhill mountain-biking entail?

Honest! Would The Saunders ask such a silly question. Me and Mr Diva just gawped with open mouths at the radio then spent the n ext half hour in hysterics!

    Welcome back team!

Welcome back CLP you have indeed been missed by all bloggers and even some lurkers are now bloggers.

You missed the fun and frivolity when we got to 500 and couldn't work out how to get to the next 500. Then with the aid of cathmel and bingo's one liners we had some fun and frivolity and some really late nights and we reached the magic 1000 since then we have been keeping each other entertained with our family lives, trials, rants and pets.

Coco you have my empathy as well a hard decision to make.

I think the drivetime team should dip in and scan all the posts and the disappointment when we didn't get the first ARF record was registered.

    Welcome

  • Comment number 37.

    Coco - lots of hugs.

  • Comment number 38.

Glad your back CLP. Still don’t understand how Lewis didn’t see either the red light or the stopped cars. Maybe he was changing a CD!

    Mary
Thanks for your kind concern, my hard drive has issues which are possibly of a terminal nature, I’m having to back up to external drive etc etc. When I’m back on fb I’ll contact you.

Coco So sorry. If like me you will beat yourself up over the coming days about whether you did the right thing…..this poem by Anita Bailey may comfort a little bit.

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done
For this last battle can't be won

You will be sad, I understand
Don't let your grief then stay your hand
For this day more than all the rest
Your love for me must stand the test

We've had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears
You'd not want me to suffer so
The time has come, please let me go

Take me where my needs they'll tend
And stay with me until the end
Hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see

I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me
Although my tail, its last has waved
From pain and suffering I've been saved

Please do not grieve, it must be you
Who has this painful thing to do
We've been so close throughout the years
Don't let your heart hold back your tears

your poem is beautiful - I had to wake my cat up and hold her close to remember how much I do love her, dispite leaving little messes on my new rug to clean up in the morning.

Landlady and her family are off to the big smoke tonight so it is just me in the house...so hot in the house but at least i shall be able to stroll around in my pants and a t-shirt as I won't bump into anyone.

Can sit undisturbed in the garden, with a glass of vino (keeping the ageing at bay - infact may have three glasses and get some regression done) and listen to the man himself back on the radio after a VERY loooooooooong week, brightened up by some of the best banter available on line - can't believe how many new friends I have made here.

    I luv ya's all

CtD any news on that boat yet? ;)

That poem is beautiful. Lovely of you to post that Jules, I hope that Coco gets some comfort from it. I defy anyone to see pictures of little Holly taken this morning and not well up.

EJR, are you a glutton for punishment or what? You have just announced to all these ladies that you will be wandering around with your briefs on!

I shall be having a glass of vino in the garden myself later I think. But I shall be wearing more clothes I imagine.

EJR, I have been told before that my mind is in the gutter.... no improvement there then! ha ha x

BP how awkward! Don't have enough privacy to do anything like that in my garden. The neighbours would probably get a petition going too, me scaring their children like that.

Welcome back Chris, good to have you back - might listen to the radio again this week!

That poem was so lovely... couldn't help thinking of my parents' poorly cat and wondering how she's doing.

Think the hilights above sum up the week pretty well although nothing could compare to being there - reading the posts through might come close though :)

As for me, trying to get rehydrated but not doing very well so far. Looking forward to mr jumpingbean coming home to give me some tlc.

Show's started so I'll send the computer to sleep again and lie down... going to have to at this rate, drivetime in the buff??!!!!

    CtD how's the back ?

  • Comment number 57.

Hilarious!!! As I read about EJR in the buff, CLP is playing the "sexy ... " song (just a little bit more?). How apt?!?

Wonderful images are now dancing in my mind. Is it a stripey deck-chair Rob? Or a luxurious wooden lounger?

And hey - lucky, lucky landlady. Think most of us would pretend to go out until you'd settled yourself in the garden! LOL!!

As for the boat, I'm on the case. By the time you get back from the land of the hobbits ..... I think they're just fitting out the dungeon below board!

    Enuff!!

How good is it to hear CLP back on air. Simply love him!

coco - thinking of you hun. You'll never forget your best friend, so hold dear to those memories.

Went to docs. Yes it is sciatica. She's scribed me some horse-tranquilisers for the pain and told me to keep on the move to loosen it up. So tomorrow my boss (or EJR if in the Colchester area) may be treated to some form of hula-hula dancing!!

    Off to roast 2 poussins!

The star Sol, the "newspaper" is a bit beneath my reading level (how snobby is that!!!!) - I tend to read the Guardian (well I like the crossword). Right now I am reading a Robert Rankin book...:)

    I am a bit sweaty here...phew ;) x

  • Comment number 63.

the wine is a Grenache Shiraz (other types are available) it is a lively blend of Grenache and Shiraz grapes produces a medium weight wine boasting aromas of juciy raspberries and lots of fruit on the palate....apparently

  • Comment number 65.

    eeerrrrr raspberries praps Rob?

The rack and mannacles will of course have a purple fur finish. Hope that's OK wit choo!

Don't know if I dare have any vino with dinner tonight - can you drink whilst on co-codomol?

And how can you read a book and listen to CLP at the same time. You are a man. Men traditionally do not multi-task. Heck - you're drinking too - that's three things on the go at once. Blimey, you are good!

Hello all!! It was so wonderful to hear Chris's dulcit tones coming out of my radio. I didn't realize how much he was missed.

Funny thing, I posted earlier today...about 3-ish. My post never appeared! Do you think I was "BP'd"? But why? I swear that the nothing OVERTLY scandalous in my message...no, I had cleverly encoded the scandalous message into the text of a seemingly benign, nay boring post. I did not think the BP was that clever.

So, three highlights from the blog you request....well, in the vein of the Three Wise Monkeys......

We saw no evil, heard no evil and spoke no evil : )

I LOVED that bit in the show when you were talking to the guy about the ...what was it now? .....oh yeah, the pillows - and he said something about your staying in many hotels, and you said "Mange tout". That really tickled me. Hilarious. He just carried on as if you hadn't said anything. Classic. Great show - was stuck in traffic for most of it : )

    Welcome home Christoff!!!

Sounds like you had a great break, and a sensible time too!! Life is short, each moment is precious and should therefore be enjoyed with maximum clarity! I’m afraid I have neither the wit, nor the imagination to come up with 3 interesting blog hi-ites (do you know how long it took me to figure out what that meant!? I’m pregnant, man … my brain cells are diminishing daily as my belly expands!!). However, I have to agree with many of my blogging buddies on their take on it - we chatted, we flirted, we debated! And I did like Beesmum’s summary! And CtD’s!!!

Coco - I know I have said it already, but sending you love and prayers and hugs over your loss. You did the right, the brave thing honey.

Durbangirl - What a great read for the wee room that would be!! LOL

Wickerman - yup, it has been a blast on the blog! But an Enzo update is a must!

Tinsel - shhhhh - don’t tell my hubby that!!!!

EJR - can you fix cisterns?! Ours keeps flushing and won’t stop! It now has a wooden spoon in it to stop it constantly flushing!!! And are we invited round given the landlady’s away!?! Huh, huh?? And pants is pants as in knickers in our book, so that image will stay with us, thank you! I, too, am a landlady, but sadly to my bro, so when he wanders round in his towel it does absolutely nothing for me but remind me of his toddler days!! And I can’t stand THAT paper either! Sorry if I offend anyone with that! Herald for me.

Debbie C - go on … you know you want to wander round in pants and T-shirt (other forms of clothing available) drinking vino!! Myself, I would look like a beached whale if I did that ,,,, given I already look like one fully clothed!!

Dr T - Sounds like you had a fabby time! Where aboots in bonny Scotland were you? We will send lots of prayers and positive thoughts for the job!! And hope that you will fill us in on it!

Mel - I do think Sal has a better relationship with CLP than she has with the others!

CtD - how excited are we about the blog-meet!?!?! The bedtime stories and being tucked in were rather fabby too!!! I missed the mountain biling interview - wondering if it’s worth listening again for the larf!? And did you have to add to the already dodgy images in my head with your comment at 57!!? Cold shower it is!! And you watch you don’t make your back worserer!!! How were the pousiins? Never had them as they make me sad! And, no, you’re not supposed to drink on co-codomol!!!

Bingo - what happened to the blog!? I missed it!

    DtM - how’s you?

Phoenix - I’m still upset at the ARF opener!!!

Jules77 - I think Lewis was driving in Inverness today!!! Why are there never any police around when these numpties go through red lights!?! As for your poem, thank you so much for sharing that - it made me cry but in a good way. Truly beautiful.

Jumping bean - worried about you honey - love and thoughts and prayers being sent for you (I don’t care if that makes anyone throw up, ok?!). Keep drinking and keep munching the wheetos - Mr Jumpingbean will bring them all too you! As for drive time in the buff - folk around here would need psychiatric help if I did that!! However, do you have EJR’s address!? Mwahahah!

Beesmum - don’t forget to pick me up too!!!!

    Red-Rhudd - nice one!!!!

MwK - How was it with you in the smoke today? It was so cloudy here but peaked at 23C!!! Rockness went really well, but man the traffic was a horror today!!

Auburn lass - who can work out the minds of the BP!?

DeRedHead - I’m guessing you like Paxo!?! Which flavour!?

Gaby - hope you are home now!! Mange tout!!

Gingembre - How was your shift … and your knee … was there any mention of your we pressie!?! And I know it was not my profile pic (as that is our daughter!!) so, come on, spill - was it Rosies? Jeni’s? Jo’s? Cheryll’s? Whose!?!?! Ah … it’s bright Annie’s isn’t it!?! ROFL!!! I’ve just had a look - I know who it is!! Bad boy! Great pic, though - if you’ve got it lass, flaunt it!!!

DWNB - I’m for one of those balls too!!!

Off to cool down in front of freezer!!!!

    Huggles

Susan (Banal? Me? Oh yeeeeaaahhhh, baby!!!!) :D

Gingembre go to the shower for a cold one right now - I've looked on fb and I know who you are on about. Bad boy!

Never mind we had fun with EJR why not you guys with on of the bloggers works both ways.

EJR I have to agree with the rest of the girls pants are knickers not the american trousers - shame on you. Mind you a glass of that Shiraz would be appreciated down here.

Can't believe I didn't bump into CLP and tash they were here in my neighbourhood and I missed them. I agree Harbour Heights is a fabulous hotel indeed.

    Best wishes to everyone else

I thought the show was great today! It is great to have Chris back on the air.

Especially the personal trainer. I am doing the plank at every opportunity will try the ball thingy and wait with baited breath for tomorrows show and just how to rid myself of the moobs ;-)

Jules the poem was just beautiful, what a sweet thought to post it. x

Thanks for the welcome back on the end of the last blog. I must try harder to blog and make time for me. It is great to see so many of the old crowd still around, of course I am looking forward to making the acquaintance of the bloggers I have yet to have to get to know.

It is good to be back! :-)

Hi all ~ long term lurker here, I read every day and usually skim through the posts reading CTD and Bingo and my fav BM but today thanks to Jules poem I had to respond and say it was utterly beautiful and made me have tears, but not in a bad way :)

My little angel is Molly a 7 year old staffi who thinks shes human and plays football alone if necesscary (usually after about 3 hours of frantic ball games where for some reason she has to go around in circles around you before she will hand the ball back lol)

Anyways CLP so glad your back and my weeks been so boring without you...I look forward to reading you over breakfast in the mornings and its been a very uninteresting week without you.

Stay safe all and now maybe ive been brave in posting this once, I might post again but im not as witty and clever as most of you :)

    Sara xx

Phoenix - you are a sweetheart!!! Harbour Heights for a blogger's meet in your neck of the woods? It was so nice for CLP to encourage folk to chat to the R2 broadcasters if we come upon them! One is never sure whether to encroach upon their privacy in public or not. Though if it was David Tennat, I'd have no qualms!!!!

As for EJR - you knew what you were doing, laddie!! :D

And, Christoff, what thinks you on the calender suggestion?! Think how much you laddies could raise for charity!!

Come to that ... perhaps we should have a male bloggers calender!?! I produce calenders from my shots each year ... bags me the job!!!

Oh my goodness!!! It’s you, Keith!!! I was trying to work out who greenyeovil was!!! Huggles honey! You are missed on the blog! But please, explain the plank to a befuddled lass! And going by YOUR profile pic - it’s working! :o)

And Sara (hopeseternal), welcome honey - now you’ve blogged once it’s easy! Noone is asking for witty and clever (that is certainly not me, anyway!!!), just be yourself. Molly sounds like a wee cracker, and we look forward to hearing more about her and your day to day!!

Well, my dear hubby has just deposited a wet wee lass in my arms, so I’d best go deal with that!! How can she still sleep through wetting!?! And why on earth is she wetting in the first place!? She is 3, and normally so good!!

Highland lass - don't think Tel likes to be approached too much - CLP being a bit of a monkey!
How the heck do you do that - you have just got to make notes!

Rob - keep knickers on - not nice without - just funny! am old enough to say what I think!

Weee!! new blogger - stay on board Sara too many lurk and go - clever - witty - in our dreams - mine at least! Gingembre will tell you no one responded to him for 2 weeks!

Early start tomorrow ooops bit late for an early night.

    Hi Susan

Yep it is me, I did smile on the last blog when you informed me that you were on fb I guessed that you did not put two and two together. ;-)

Sara you have crossed the line now and blogged. It is addictive you know just like a tube of Pringle's (other snacks are available) one you pop you just can't stop. ;-) Welcome x

ah ha so that's who you are I've been trying for ages to work out who the clp group blogger was and now I know.

Do you support Yeovil FC or the Ivel Barbarians - I drive through Yeovil at least twice every 4 weeks enroute to Cheddar.

    Hey Highland Lass.

To do the plank lie front down on the floor. Put your arms under you shoulders and push up putting your hands together like praying but on the floor sort of like a pyramid. Next push up rest of body so using just your toes and that is the plank. There's a bit on CLP's message area where the fun and frivolty from today has been put - seeing jonny try the wall walk was interesting.

Welcome Hopeseternal I joined fairly recently but lurked for ages. I've met virtually some really lovely people from here.

You got there in the end, BM! I did wonder if there was a wee in-joke in CLP’s comments! But, though I occasionally dip into the Togmeister’s show, I can’t say that I would approach him anyway! Come to think of it …. can’t think of many I’d approach, apart from CLP!!! Perhaps Janice Long, who kept us company when we were homeless and living with various friends and acquaintances - when I listen to her she reminds me of when we found out I was carrying Charis, our wee miracle given we thought I couldn’t conceive! Got that one wrong and then some!!

Hmmm - Phoenix - that still sounds complicated! Is it safe for a lass in my condition?! Might have to email to ask! Loved the photos but I do think they should have Jumpingbean, EJR or myself taking the shots for them!! I still couldn’t work out the plank from the photos!!! And going by the size of the ball Johnny was using, I can use the wee lass’s space hopper for that!! Promise I’ll get photos taken for the laugh!!

Another glorious morning - well, in my mind only I guess!

Welcome Sara. I too am new and still feeling my way around fb and the blog. But such a great bunch of guys (means both girls and boys where I come from) that I feel like I have returned rather than just joined.

Jules that was the most touching poem I have read (and I read a lot of poetry) - thanks - it really touched my heart.
