THE ROARING TWENTIES AND A WIN WITH A PRO BY THE NAME OF MARK ROE...

Chris Evans | 15:40 UK time, Thursday, 18 September 2008

Two hours ago I was atop a hill overlooking literally the...

whole of the south of England.

I was at Goodwood again, my second home, pre the Revival playing in A Good Old Days golf tournament and guess what ? In the car, as I raced back (within the speed limit of course) back to Radiotwoland, I received a telephon call to inform me that my team had WON !

DSC_6475.jpg...

Hurrrrrrrrrraaaaahhhhhhh !!!!! I have never won a golf tournament before.

I had arrived after most people had teed off and then had to leave as soon as I played the last hole so...

"Wow that's amazing," I exclaimed to Mark Roe, one of my playing partners and a complete golfing genius, "How many teams were in it ?" I went on.

"Well only three," he replied, "but a win's a win."

DSC_6905.jpg

Indeed so, indeed so.

Oh by the way, Dickie Davies was part of the action. I love Dickie Davies.

Proof of above events follows.

What dashing outfits one and all.

Hollands pies.. well not a patch on my Shop up North. A family run business for many a year. Mum and Dad died quite young and son rock guitarist at the time took over. They are simply the best pies in the world.
Hollands are a poor subtitute. But still very tasty.

    Hello, hello, hello and hello!

Hurrah - I get home from the workplace, and The Blog is here, complete with colour photos!!

DtM - I was a true Durannie, y'know. The first time I saw them I didn't realise how big Wembley Arena was, took a single red rose for my first true love (that'll be John Taylor!), and even tho our seats were nearer Webley's tin roof than the hallowed stage, I still threw my rose with all my might for John to catch. Sadly, it plopped about 3 rows in front of where we were sitting and got rapidly trampled on!!

Hey ho - I was only 15 at the time!! (Seven And The Ragged Tiger tour)

Hello Kate - don't be shy. come on in. The bloggin's lovely!

    Hi Chris
What a lovely day for a game of golf, glad you were in the wining team. The weather for the weekend looks good for Goodwood Revival. Another weekend for those who live in Midhurst to walk much quicker that driving.
ARF I thought as it was the revival, a song to do with cars would be a good idea. How about Jonis Joplin Mercedes Benz or Bruce Springsteen Pink Cadillac.

  • Comment number 26.

    Calm down, calm down.

Reports of my wealth are greatly exaggerated.

Alas, I didn't discover as yet untapped oil reserves in Abu Dhabi, thus ensuring billions and billions of dollars pouring my way for the next 50 years or so.

No, a couple of Arabs beat me to it.

    However, it was mission accomplished.

The Palace was as grand as expected, and you know the best bit? There was no-one there.

I truly recommend Ramadan as a time to visit a Muslim country. There is the cultural experience, but the fringe benefit is that no-one else bothers. So, if you are looking for peace and quiet, sunshine by the bucket load and luxury on-tap, check out when the Holy month falls next year and book yourself a week in the Emirates.

I see all is well in the camp. I had a quick scroll through and I didn't spot too many squabbles.

But, the burning question has to be, what on earth is Bingo on?

And, can I have some please?

A quick update on 'the situation'. It was full steam ahead the night we left. Yesterday it fell apart. This morning it was all off.

But. A late development. It could all be back on after a phone call this evening.

    Confused? Yep, I am.

    Will keep you posted.

    Love to all

Forgot to mention that I lost LM earlier in Tesco's earlier. Blimey it was scary.

Had staff and customers looking for him, no where to be found.

Outside the shop, calling him at the top of my voice and I could hear this little voice in the distance. He was standing next to the car, said he couldn't see me so he went and waited at the car.

So we've had a chat about what to do if it happens again. All good fun eh?

Well my god, can't you waste some time with pc programmes. You spend an age finding how to work it and next time around you forgot what you learned last time.

B's Mum back to pies. Now then... many moons ago when I lived up North was a Bread, Pie and confectioners. I am sure these pies are the best in the world.
People queue up as they come freshly baked out of the oven. The pastry is shortcrust and light. The best are the meat and the meat and potato. You can also round it off with a vanilla slice or a Wilbury tart if you don't mind blue teeth!

So if you are ever in Marple head for Archers Bread Shop.

    PP

Debbie obviously LM is starting young and hates shopping.

  • Comment number 43.

I remember getting lost at Jaywick Market when not much older than LM and getting such a smack from my nan when she found me. She must have been so scared. All part of childhood and growing up isn't it.

Bless him, I was pleased that he was clever enough to go to the car but not always the best option.

PP, he loves a food shop does my boy. 'Mum look at this, mum look at that' 'Mum I'll be a good boy'

But then clothes shopping, don't even go there. Nightmare.

Gingembre, flat cap maybe? Or a tribly. Experiment and post up the pics on FB, we'll have a vote ;-)

PP - mouth now watering and missing the pasty shop we used to visit twice a year in cornwall when we used to have hols - baked on premises and no other taste like it. Went for a quick visit last year (see comment to Tinsel above) and went back home with just me, doggy and a boot full of just from oven pasties driving us crackers with the aroma!! Rationed and only just finished the last from the freezer! Ever paid a nostalgic visit?

Following on from my recipe of earlier, here's another TTT top tip.

When making goulash for a family dinner, do NOT confuse the parkrika and cayenne pepper jars.

Lost the 15 yo in a French market about 10 years ago. Found him with a very nice English couple about 10 minutes later, although it seemed a lot longer.

The subject came up recently, apparently I had failed to mention the episode to Mrs T, who was not with us.

15 yo suddenly realises he was severely traumatised by the whole thing and only a new pair of trainers would heal the hurt and mean he would not need a lifetime of therapy.

The thing is I do still feel guilty about it. Perhaps we all need to go through that kind of thing just once.

    Will stop now

    TTT

  • Comment number 64.

B's Mum it's only a small percentage in her company that earn extremely high salaries and if they make a wrong decision on a deal they are out .

Just over a year ago I had a conversation with an MD of a large estate agents. I asked if he thought the recession and also the downturn in America would have an impact. His reply was "no won't effect us". Now they are in dire straits.. You see the Government has refused to admit the word recession for too long.
Without customers to lend to the Banks can't make any money.

That's the crux of the matter really.

    Beesmum xxx

  • Comment number 67.

    Yes, I think I should.

I tried to bluff my way out of it by, firstly denying that any error had been made ( a man's reaction) and then suggesting that the addition of 4 tablespoons of cayenne pepper really added a bit of 'je ne sais quoi' to a somewhat bland dish.

So I gamely worked my through what was possible the worse meal I have eaten in years while berating the family for their lack of adventure.

    The spare room beckons.

  • Comment number 68.

AAAh PP don't know if you remember (prob. far too young) but when I thought about buying a property it was with a bldg soc who needed me to save with them for a fair while - build up a smidge of savings and then they would lend one and a half times my salary because that was manageable for future payments - all depending on the size of deposit "fair while" savings could provide as a deposit!

Debs, felt my tummy go when I read your lost story....we;ve all had similar and it is the most awful feeling. So well done LM and you...

Annie - good luck to your girl and s-i-l. Lots of it around unfortunately, we may be looking at a lost biz in this household. Time will tell (prob fairly quickly).

Oh boleyngirl so sorry, forgot to say have a lovely weekend too. Your wedding day is going to be a very special one isn't it.

Thirteen years today that Mr Debbie's dad died so we are paying a visit with some flowers later.

Dreamer, I told LM off at first when I found him, still feel guilty about that now.

Cheese and onion pasties are fab Cheryl, especially with a bit of salad cream.

    Mornin' all. Just a quickie...

First of all, thankyou for the vibes, my lovely friend is thus far doing well but his recovery will take some time.

Secondly, well done Debs! Keep it up girl, your self-worth stock has just soared on the morale market.

Thirdly, nearly did Woman's Minute yesterday as I woke up in me hotel bed in Dublin, had a senior moment and forgot where I was, got me foot caught in the sheet abnd fell outa bed. Turned out to be the right side as I was laughin' at meself all day.

And fourthly, Cheryl/Lola. ARF. Go for it, Copacabana..ah go on lets. Go on go on you will you will, CLP, indulge the lovely CtD with the Yellow Feathers In Her Hair and The Dress Cut Down To There...Hurrah!!

Well, I'm wearin' MINE, babe...half a parrot on me head and me puddin's boilin' right over, and the gait of a woman avoidin' pools of sick on HMS Zanussi. Lock up your husbands everyone.

    Well, the Yorkshire Terrier anyway.

    Clodagh.xx

PS. Fifthly. Nice socks, Christoff. I'm wearin' mine with the pencil skirt and the Dick Emery heels, mind.

    And the puddin's of course.

I'm referring to the job. Not tellin' the LM off. Mind you, he's a fella and therefore should be told off on a regular basis. Marvellous.

Ta-ta for now from an overcast Belfast. See yous all soon.

Hiya - there's always so much I want to comment on!

First, Mr Evans: well done on the golfing thingy! I have to say, I have played golf several times - it is sheer torture, in my opinion! Can't tell you how many times I have tried to hit the ball, looked down and the damn thing is still sitting there!

ARF - well of course it must be Copacabana ........ not unless it's Dobie Gray! Gingembre, we have the most fantastic CD of Dobie Gray (Drift Away) - it is brilliant.

Cheryl: do I seem to recall saying to you in the past that your husband is the double of (a very young) David Essex?! I seem to remember checking your blog and Mr Diva has really long hair and is quite gorgeous - am I right?!

Debbie: utter nightmare for you losing LM. And OF COURSE you told him off - it was sheer relief - our first instinct is to think "Thank god you are alright. Now, I'm going to shout at you"!!!

Annie: hope everything will be alright for your daughter. It is completely beyond belief that the BOS could be in such a precarious state.

Last but not least: Mariella, how lovely your wee cat made it home!

    Soooo bored!!!

Sorry just felt like having a moan hehe.

Sitting here looking through so many jobs on the net and can't find anything to apply for today.

Now on days like today, nothing special planned, me fretting about rubbish, I tend to take myself and LM on the train to meet his dad from work. Is that sad? Think I'll have to do it again today.

  • Comment number 91.

Debbie, not sad at all! It's a lovely day (well it is here anyway), I bet LM loves going on train and I bet daddy is chuffed to see the pair of you! And getting out and about does stop the fretting!

It's lovely and sunny here too Tinsel.

With LM at school, I'm here on my own, family, friends all work etc......I'm lonely (cue violins).

Feel pretty crap today but so determind to sit here and look for a job and do something positive, rather than mope around.

Train trip later it is then :-)

  • Comment number 95.

Ah Cheryl Mr Diva has a lovely, smiley face.

Now if you want to come on the train with me and LM the rules are as follows:

    1. You have to kneel on the seat, face the window and shout every time you see a cow.

    2. You cannot go through Stratford without getting a bar of minty aero at the shop at the bottom of the stairs.

    3. You MUST sit at the front of the DLR and do not let go of that bar or the train won't work.

  • Comment number 96.

LOL!!! Love those rules Deb - but not sure about kneeling on the seat: the man who checks the tickets might tell me off!

Stratford - that great building site in East London?? It'll never be ready in time ....

Always try to sit at the front on DLR trains so I can pretend I'm driving!!

    Once a child, always a child .........

Not sure whether to tell Himself about all these compliments he's getting: may have to widen the door frames!!!
