What Came First The Curry or The Contractions.

Chris Evans | 09:46 UK time, Monday, 9 February 2009

So we did it, not have a baby, not yet anyway but

we did have a curry, last night and a big one at that.

It was a special curry night at the same pub where we experienced Death by Pork a couple of weeks ago. Last night, nine dishes, yes nine dishes and that's not including the rather excellent dessert. It was all in there, from mouth watering onion bhajis and samosas to start that literally melted on your tongue, through to exotic oriental fusion duck and lamb concoctions for the mains. There was the obligatory curry quiz with some dreadful punny answers.

How might one greet an Indian meal in the street ?

"Aloo !"

6 out of 10 was the winning score.

And indeed this morning it appears that wifey may well "finally" be on the way.

But was it the curry what brought it on ? Or was it simply us doing what everyone else does and trying everything in the book for so long that one of them had to coincide with the actual event ?

And the things we tried. I'm half the man I was before the weekend !

Anyway it's still not imiminent, the birth of a baby that is. Currently we have something going on every forty five minutes. It's been like this all night. We have rung the Doc and he says we have to wait for the "ouch count" to go down to every five minutes before we even think about going near a hospital.

So once again, it's business as usual until then but if I had to bet I would say by tomorrow night, midnight, at the latest there will be a new little boy or girl in the Evans clan.

So, I will see you on the radio. Five past five tonight 02.09.2009.

CLP.

2009.

    Chris,

How wonderful that you came here this morning to update us! As you can tell, we are all beside ourselves!

I remember my mum telling me (to my horror) that she and my dad did "the dance of love" the night before I was born, which she swore did the trick - no curries in those days!

Please tell Tash we all send our love and we will all be there, (virtually of course) holding her hand!

Good luck Chris and Tash, might be a while yet tho....

    Oh CLP,

You must be so excited that things have finally started...

Please don't come in today - stay with your Wife instead! There's no telling how fast or slow Tash's labour will go, but I'm sure she'd rather you were with her - and I'm sure I speak for many on here - we would too!

You should be there with her, even if it's only making cups of tea!

Best wishes for a speedy, easy labour and birth......

Am currently at Defcon3 with hot water and towels...can't remember if Defcon1 or Defcon5 is the highest though, so may come a cropper if called upon to inflate birthing pool at last minute due to lack of preparation.

Have just checked. Is Defcon1. Is 'Maximum Readiness'.

Situation at my desk currently Defcon5, so better be getting my act together.

Do not leave her side! And best thing is to stay at home as long as possible where everything's comfortable (as comfortable as can be!) and familiar...the little one will pop out in his/her own time no matter what you've done to encourage things along :)

Fingers crossed for a smooth comfortable birth, relaxation is the key - remember what getting tense does to your muscles!

    Renee has just reminded me.

Over the knittin' needles. Don't want to alarm yous Christoffe Lambie Pie but it looks to me like Baby Ev is gointa be gettin' a knitted swimsuit, see previous missive. Unless it's a hat with holes in the side for a baby with unusually large ears. I'm not even askin'.

Anyway. Seems that when I thrashed me way into the world on a freezing cold January night in Liverpool at the turn of the century, Renee was convinced that having produced one girl, I was going to incarnate male, the one that would continue the legacy on the rugby field as the Fastest Winger In History, play for England and generally save the world.

Now this would have been tragic, given my lack of any kind of balance, rhythm, competitiveness or sporting aptitude of any kind; I'd 'ave given Alan Carr a run for his money. But any road up. There I was, undoubtedly and disappointingly female, screamin' like Siouxie Sioux and kickin' up a right fuss, and the DDF Eric promptly went to phone the nightmare Aunty Lily to announce the joyous news.

"Lily?" says he. "We've got another girl."

"Oh well. Never mind." Says she.

And so heralded my debut on Planet Earth.

And you wonder why I'm a feminist.

  • Comment number 34.

Clodagh: hilarious as always! I was No.6 in my family - two boys, three girls, mum & dad desperate for another boy so he could be named after my dad. Apparently my mother was so convinced it was a boy, she knitted everything in blue, the cot was painted blue, brand new blue pram .... you get the idea.

Enter me. I don't think they ever recovered - and I felt guilty for years, once I knew the truth!

  • Comment number 36.

Chrissie that reminds me once again of the Brother-Outlaw.

The last in line of a family of 4 boys and 3 girls, he once spent the evening complaining that all he ever wanted was his own clothes. Always and forever in the hand-me-downs.

"What's up with that?" I questioned. "I always got the hand-me downs, too, shoes, vests, the lot. Didn't do ME any harm."

"Ah yes," says he. "But the next up from ME was our Margaret."

Bless him he was also a livid ginga. Which I think is a Gift From God; but his mother disagreed and thus said B/OL spent his early days in Our Margaret's fluffy bonnets, too. Crammed down like Freddie Parrot-Face; seems the only other redhead in the immediate area was the coal man, and his mother didn't want any malicious gossip whenever the chimmeney got puffin'.

Good luck..keep moving, it might keep the contractions going! Even if the contractions fade away, rest assured, it can't be long now. I had contractions with my son that started each day for 3 days only to fade away each time, frustrating or what! Anyhoo, he did eventually arrive very soon after that.

I'd put my money on baby Evans being a boy.

  • Comment number 42.

hellenbach1....I did just that, I got out of bed at the first twinge and walked round the bed, timing each contraction and getting hubby to jot down the time between each one. We still have that bit of paper that noted times all through the night, slowly going from 15 mins apart down to 10, 7, and then 5, with the occasional scary 2 mins gap!...son is now 12. Also have a 14 year old and 4 year old all born at home.

Happy memories, it's the most amazing time, especially the 2 weeks afterwards when it's all so exciting and new :)

No ladies, not a head cold, not a man cold, not a virus.........THE FLU!!!!

First time able to type my own name in five days. It's horrendous. Any other sufferers out there have my complete sympathy.

As for Natasha and Chris and baby Evans......

....Thought I'd missed it. I tried to watch the news over the weekend, but the concoction of drugs, Lucozade, tiredness and a head that felt like it had been run over by a convoy of trucks, twice, left me hallucinating.

Come on Tash, you can do it girl!!!!

Chris, stand by your beds old pal, here it comes my son. Drivingtime will never be the same again. Two becomes three.......

    Back of the net.

I'm off to lie down. The last ten minutes on my feet has made me feel like I've run a marathon. I'm ordering the hottest curry I can tonight, flush it out of me for good!!

Why oh why don't I have a wi-fi laptop? I can't believe I shall have to wait until Wednesday when I'm home to get the gossip. Do you think Tash will hold on until then if I ask her nicely? lol

No internet access during my meetings tomorrow or Wednesday either :-(

Perhaps its about time I figured out how to get radio on my mobile! I forget I can use it for things other than phoning people! lol Now where is that instruction book.....!!!!

Awww, Christoff - in tears of joy for you both! Give our love and a huge hug to Tash! You will make wonderful parents, and we are very grateful that you have shared the experience so openly with us all! God bless you both and that lucky wee baby who will be surrounded with such love!

Bloomin' heck Bondy - thought you were joking there.....the first was trailed on MOTD 2 last night but the other's a surprise to me. They have totally lost the plot there IMHO.

Guess we'll all be trying to listen in 30 mins to see who is presenting the show!
