To The Bride and Groom but now..

...beware the bathroom scales.

Well would you know it - my favourite meals apart from me ma's hotpot and me wife's lamb shank are:

A full monty fry up
Fish and chips
Rack of lamb

Now to have just one of those bad boys these days induces a good 24 hours of guilt and at least two sessions in the gym; but yesterday we had all three - in that order - and two cheese courses and two desserts.

Natasha and I were attending the wedding of two very good friends of ours - I was best manning - did a poem. It went down quite well and everyone was grateful for its brevity.

Now the heaviest I have ever been in my life is 13 stone 6 - also after a weekend in Ireland with the same genial host whilst watching the rugby two years ago... I fear this time however he has stuffed me on to a new personal best.

Am going straight from the airport to the gym. I will blog again with the weight before and after my work out.

In the meantime my little fruit bats how about three cheers for the happy couple...

    Morning CLP.

Lovely pic! And well done for the Bezzy Man stuff.

Weight loss. I've managed to lose over a stone and a half since February. Not dieting. Not paying some corporate weight loss company for 5 minutes on their scales once a week. Not counting calories.

Just incredibly content with my lot at the mo, which seems to be the secret to my success!

In fact, that's an under-statement. I'm probably happier now that I've been for a very very long time.

    It works for me!

    Laters dude!

    Chris,

Wonderful to have you back - glad you enjoyed the wedding. Lovely couple - I hope they will be very happy. My wedding day was undoubtedly the happiest day of my life, I remember every minute as if it was yesterday. Our best man completely dried up he was so nervous, so MrS had to take over, he handled it all very well!

As for the weight thing, well that amount of food is just a one-off, once you start eating normally again, you'll be back to your fighting weight!

    Hope everyone else is ok.

Lyndyloo: read your wonderful news - a wee boy to love and cherish - fantastic.

I'm loving your persistence!! DOes CLP know David 10" I wonder ..... ?

When my best friend got married, her other half didn't have a best man. Instead, when he stood up and made his speech at the (very low key) reception, he acknowledged all the chaps from the "gang" sitting around the room (including Mr Deevs) and said it was an impossible task to single out one of them to do the Best Man thing, so without their knowledge, and in their own ways over the years, they'd all been Best Men at some point or another. It was a real "pass me a tissue" moment as he's not known as the most emotive of people at the best of times.

    Twas luvly!

    HI Everyone,

Great to be part of the blog! I haven't been to a wedding in years!! In fact neither of my kids have ever been to a wedding, but next year my niece is getting married. They aren't sure what to do about a wedding as they don't want to spend too much money on it as they would rather put it towards a house. Quite sensible really!

Yes Chris your friend did do very well, Lovely girl, reminded me of someone I've just met.

    Hi folks, just tearing through...

Lovely picture, sounds like a fab wedding.

Don't get me going on weddings, I could talk all day in minute detail! 39 days and counting...

Anyhoo, speeches, my dad was the big speechster in our family, but as he was, sadly, unavailable to deliver at his own funeral, just over a year ago, I had to take the reins myself, as my bro couldn't face it. Bro's giving me away in July but still doesn't want to do speech, so I'm doing my own! No-one who knows me would expect me to sit quietly and leave it to the blokes. And the first thing will be raising glass to me dad, and wishing him a happy birthday as we chose to have it then for that very reason.

Much deep breathing beforehand I feel...

Then my brother-in-law and husband (HUSBAND????) will do theirs, and they're both lovely so it should be fine.

    Anyway way, enough, enough.

Sorry no time to catch up on posts since Friday, but I did notice Lyndyloo's news - how lovely xxx

    Hope Tinsel's still tingling too!

Hi Bingers, hi Chrissie hi EVERYONE.

boleyngirl: wow, just over a month to go - how very exciting!

If I was getting married now, I would definitey give a speech, but in the olden days it was not the done thing!

I did give a "thank you for being here" speech on my daughter's Communion Day, but I did go on a bit - nerves and all that. I did manage to stop just short of singing a few Frank Sinatra classics!

Great to have you back CLP - and nice to see a pic of the bride and groom.

Lovely story about your grandparents Bingo and that you gained a Grandad - thanks for sharing it. Good to see that your new job is making you so happy as well.

Baggie and Boleyn - I'm sure the speeches will be great whoever ends up doing them. Loved Deev's story about her best man and Dad's speeches - very funny, although perhaps not at the time!!

Welcome happy Di - enjoy the blog...

If I was getting hitched again, I'd do it "my way" the second time round.

As a 28 year old bride. I conformed so much to what a bride shold be (pic on FB - you'll see what I mean!!)

Should it ever happen again, or should me and 'imself renew our vows, I'd like it to have more of my personality stamped on it: yes, a bit of Goth influence for starters.

I guess first time round I just went with the flow.

Oh well. It was good tho - even if I did have to go home and get some decent CDs before the evening kicked off!!

Hi Bingo - You are right number aren't important, it is how you feel and we all age differently. You get some old 60 year olds and some young ones!!!!! How does Chris do it - 6 footer plus - often wondered about that and how does he look so different at times, just don't understand!!!!

Happy Di - welcome to the blog. It is great fun.

Hi Puff - Yes, it's never too late for Love.

My first time, 16 and a half years ago, I had a baby I was so in love with I couldn't care less about wedding arrangements and left it all to mt mam - never a good idea.

I look like me in the photos but it still feels like it happened to someone else.

This time we have had an absolute ball planning our perfect party, and getting everything - readings, songs, even "incidental music" believe it or not, perfect for the ceremony.

Acsh, as a result I really fancy being a wedding planner! Only for nice people though. Or my other previously undiscovered skill - personal shopper for snazzy outfits for pensioners on a budget!

Bingo - wow you are working for the lovely Justin. Lucky you. Shame about the Brum meet - there is always Bristol and Norwich!! If you were on fb you would see on clp bloggers page!!! And for the record, I agree - over 6ft you need some meat on you otherwise you can look like a stick!!! Not a nice look - like that footballer - wossissname? crouch or something like that.

Ooohh, can I just say to anyone still to see Take That - my envy knows no bounds!

I did have the opportunity to get tickets for one of their shows at Hampden Park in Glasgow, but just could not face the nightmare of getting there, and then getting home again. Been there, done that, and it took me a week to recover!

However, it does look like the TT show is utterly fantastic, so ...... enjoy!

I know it was a LONG time ago, but weren't they terrific on Jonathan Ross? They are so knocked out by their success this time around - just love them!

    Afternoon all,

Hey, we got married in Las Vegas and it was fab. Just flew over, got a licence and then walked the strip to find a place we liked.
Was going to be a jeans and t shirt affair, then on the last minute MR MC decided on a suit. As it was mid November, i struggled to find a dress. Walked into every store in Manchester.
Anyway, on the very last weekend before we were due to fly out, i found the dress and shoes . Had a fab day, just the two of us, and loads of parties when we got back.

    Tis Me - I'm back!

I've been meaning to blog all morning, but it's never good coming back to work after a holiday. Post and emails everywhere and then I discovered that half my emails had gone missing, so spent ages recovering them. I wish people wouldn't fiddle about on my machine while I'm not around...!!!

No point me trying to catch up on the blog, as I do have a life and it would probably take me the next few years of it catching up on what's been going on whilst I've been away.

    So...
If you are happy, then I'm happy too.
    If you are sad, then I send a big hug {{}}
If you are excited, then I am jumping up and down with you.
If you are hoping for something, then I am crossing my fingers for you.

    That should cover every eventuality.

To be truthful I am not over keen on weddings, but's that's just me. Nice picture of the happy couple though and glad you had a good time Chris. Don't worry about the weight as has been said above, it will soon drop off as you go about normal life again.

I had a great holiday, went to stay with a friend in the States. Weather was a bit pants, but apart from that a good time was had.

Hello CtD.... things are fine thanks. How's it with you?

Darce, you not a golfer then...LOL

  • Comment number 67.

Thanks for the welcome backs. Not got much of a suntan to fade, having spent one day sitting in the sun. The rest of the time it was overcast and dull with rain, rain and more rain during the night.

Darce, I went to Conneticut. My friend is American and we met through work about 12 years ago and I've been visiting her every year since. She's got three girls, so I seem to spend most of my week going to soccer and lacross matches and events at their school. But it's all good fun. It's was nice to have a change of scenery and a break.

Bingo, we are here to help, so share away xx

Bingo: you know there is tremendous support on this blog, so if you want to share, you can. But I know what you mean - once you say something, it's out there!!

Pen: thank you - I have decided not to grow up!

Adam: hi - good to see you. Don't know where you are, but hope all is well.

007: just hang in there. Easy for me to say, but MrS and are going through something very similar at the moment, and it's not easy. It will work out, though, you can be sure of it.

AliB: welcome back, glad to hear you had a good holiday. Where were you in the good ol' US of A?

Going home tonight to assist in Part 2 of packing for the holiday MsS is taking with 30 of her school friends! They leave for Majorca on Thursday, and I am absolutely distraught. MrS, on the other hand, is planning a peaceful life whereas I face two weeks of sleepless nights and lots of pacing the floor!

Pen - the biting of the tongue didn't last long I can tell you!!

Ali - that sounds really nice - you get to see a bit of the local life when you stay with friends. Its great that you've kept the friendship going, so easy to lose it when people move away.

Pen: so you know how I feel!

The thing is, she is one of the most sensible people on the planet, but I can't help but be anxious. I can only advise her to a certain extent, which so far has covered every base - and I do mean EVERY base!

It was so much easier 10 years ago!

Chrissie - how old is your daughter?

When my 2 eldest were in their teens, we took 4 of their friends with us. They started going out in the evening and discovered this club they could get into. My youngest was a baby at the time and I went along to the club to see what they were getting up to. The entrance was down a flight of stairs and I had to get somebody to help me down the steps with the pram and then I set up camp at a table near the dance floor. They were so not impressed, especially when they had to help me out!!

Darce - first, but Mr P is dad in every way, shape or form, as they were very young at the time, and the less said about their biological father, the better. That's their words, as well as mine!!

Sounds like you landed a good one second time around Pen. What is it with some fathers - the father of my 2 eldest granddaughters hasn't seen or tried to contact them for over a year now.

Having not had kids then i cant say i understand but i do sympathise...when i think what my sister put my parents through i cringe (i was the goody 2 shoes!)...

..but, when does it change around and the child start worrying about the parent? For me it was 12 years ago today (the date my dad died). Only being 19 at the time my mum became my priority and i started worrying about her if she wasnt back when she said she was, ringing her to make sure she was ok and asking where she was going... mad! But she says it felt supportive so maybe i did do the right thing even if i was old before my years!

My sis on the other hand was only 17 and she was still a wild party animal... out every night and basically having the time of her life..and you know what? she prob did stuff that would make us all shudder but she`s turned out to be one of the most sensible, level headed, caring people i know..

So.. keep worrying, its only natural but be assured they are probably more sensible than you think and will all be the greatest people in the world...in fact they probably are already..

  • Comment number 87.

Hiya Darce: my daughter is 18 - had her birthday in March. Since then, she has been clubbing every weekend and having the time of her life! She has a new boyfriend too, so it is "all systems go" at the moment! Ironically, the bf will be in Majorca too, for about 4 days while MsS is there!

But as I say, she is very sensible and I know she won't do anything "daft". We have a fantastic relationship and we talk about (almost) everything. I am not her best friend, I am her mum, but anything I can help her with, of course I will.

It's really not easy, is it?!

Scoobs: of course you are right. And you have not come across as a bit heavy. Bit of a shame that you had so much responsibility at such a young age. Very different circumstances for me, but I was more or less looking after myself from the age of 13 which was not fun. Circumstances just come our way, and we have to cope as best we can, I suppose.

BTW: I bought three cards the other day and they cost me £8! Outrageous!

My youngest granddaughter is 14 months and my son and I haven't seen her for months as her Mother won't allow it. He has taken it to Court and is waiting for a date. Hopefully their will be access granted - its eating him up not seeing her.
