Today they say is the naturally...

Chris Evans | 11:08 UK time, Friday, 19 June 2009

...happiest day of the year.

I would tell you why they say this, but my mate has just wiped a bogey on that bit of the newspaper and I had to throw it away as it was making me chunder. It's in the Daily Mail if you want to read about it. I'll have another scan of the skinny when I get to work.

Same mate is feeling a bit down on this the happiest of days, 'cos of his belly. I have told him just looking at it won't change anything, so have forced him to have a work out with me before I leave for the mighty Radio 2 this afternoon

Stephen Fry has dropped six stones in a year, and this has inspired him finally to face up to the fat..

So here he is eighteen months ago ...

before.jpg

And here he is now...

after.jpg

The rest of the world may be worried about the implosion of F1 and dodgy elections in Iran, but I have adipose to get rid of. I am saying 12 10 for me and 13 2 for the moustache - two weeks today - so we look swell as opposed to swollen for our trip down to The New Forest.

    CLP,

I lost a few stone a year ago and find it a struggle to keep it off, 2 week holidays bring half stone weight gains and months of trying to lose it again.
good luck with reaching your ideal weight and the same with your friend.

Good luck with the shedding of excess poundge - it's not easy, but as I said the other day, I think my weight loss at the mo is quite simply down to being so darned happy!

Just really, totally, 100% amazingly happy at the mo.

If I could bottle it and pass it on, free of charge, I would. But for now I will just bask in the glow of happiness that has invaded Deev World!

However, good luck to you both, and well done to the mate for making the decision to lose weight.

Meanwhile, I am still moaning about having nothing that fits but I still manage to scoff white wine by the bucketload! Not good really.

Why oh why has Richard Allison been concined (sp) to the stupid o'clock times of 3am & 2am on a weekend!!!!

The man has superb musical taste and although I can 'listen again' i wish he was on at a more accessible time.

I can think of a few presenters I would gladly replace with Alice Richardson as he is known to Tel W.

    Crumpy - RANT OVER!

  • Comment number 17.

Happiest day of the year, really?

So the happiest day is official because of research done by Walls ice cream! Mmmm call me cynical if you like but the formula used to find this out was O + (N x S) + Cpm/T + He. Now what on earth does that mean?

To me it is a bit like having Valentines Day, Fathers day, Mothers Day and the like. Not that I am against them all in principle but it seems to me that these days are usually looking to sell something and it is just a marketing tool. Should we not be happy all of the time or love our parents and partners without someone telling us that we have to be happy or say I love you?

So in protest today I will not buy a Walls Ice cream (although I have to admit to wanting one really badly now I think of them.....) never mind how hot it gets. However I will tell my wife I love her when I get home.....with a smile on my face.....just because I can. ;-))

I'm with Keith on being told what to celebrate on what days - we should be happy every day.

    Afternoon all,

Good Luck CLP and friend with the weight loss, I've lost quite a lot of weight over the last few years, maily due to the fact that I graduated from being a very sedentary student to working full time in a job that requires me to be on my feet for most of the day! I seem to have gone the same way as my Mum, we've both been bigger in our teens and early twenties but have shrunk as we've got older...

Having a lazy day today, have been feeling really drained lately, and days off have just been disappearing in a blur so I'm forcing myself to do nothing today!

Ah well now CLP perhaps I should modify my ARF tune in favour of Ken Dodd singin' about 'is wedding tackle, "Happiness". Hurrah go on listen up. Cheeky monkey that Doddy, who'd a thought it.

Now then the Fat thing. Getting rid of superfluous fat is rather like de-cluttering the house. A little fat belly can be a sign of something else you're hanging on to.

Therefore I always find that de-cluttering my life is the best way to restore equilibrium to me head, and the ickle body follows. When you're relaxed and at peace with yourself, you actually don't need to stuff your face beyond its needs. Of course, we all carry a bit of extraneous fat. If the old bottom didn't have any fat on it we'd split when we sat down. And that'd make a right nasty mess on the sofa, n'est-ce pas.

We need to take care, sure. Especially as we get a bit older. But what we need to stop doing is being so bloody perfectionist about it. This is where I cite certain areas of the media as having great accountability, but of course we have free will as individuals. What we CAN do is inspire our youngsters with a healthy dose of self-respect, teach them to be happy and to pass it on.

    It's a start.

Meanwhile Christoff, give your mate a poke in his lovely little wibbly-wobbly belly from me and tell him he's a God.

But pass him a hanky for goodness' sake. Ew.

Clodagh, glad your back to restore some law'n'order/sensibility to the proceedings....more wise words....doesn't just apply to food either does it??? Drink and drug abuse also can be a sign of the unhappiness....guess eating too many cakes is the least worst (grammar??) thing you can do if you're not in a happy fulfilled life!!!

TBxx getting toooo serious for a Friday...ooooh, just remembered....it's FNWC!!!

What was that I said about drink just now?

Think maybe not, but we can always dream....at the end of the day, just the fact they exist is enough, they are my life after all....even if I do complain about them from time to time!!!

KW - Sorry I had to rush off this morning. I meant to ask you about your children. I've been thinking about them all morning, feeling very excited. Did you say they were 12, 4 and 2? Are they boys or girls? What do they look like? What are their names?

My daughter, Danielle is beautiful with brown hair and blue eyes. She just phoned to say she has her results. A first again!! My son Marc has brown hair, which he always keeps very short and has brown eyes.

I had a hysterical ectomy in my 30's and my (STILL) husband asked if I "would go like the dog" after the op! After being told not to be an idiot I informed him certainly not.

Well here I am 8 years down the line, heaviest I've ever been.

    Exactly, Baz.

On days like Fathers' Day and birthdays I so miss the ravin' nuisance that was the DDF Eric. And he was indeed a nuisance. If you arrived at the house with his Prezzy later than 9.30 you'd find him sat sittin' on the doorstep with his arms folded, obviously having behaved like a bad-tempered budgie with the plastic cover on its cage for at least 2 hours.

But the joy of giving him said Prezzy was second to none. He adored the attention, see. He'd mince around in what was invariably a new sweater or shirt, thinkin' he was chocolate and loving himself. And it was infectious. It didn't matter if he looked a bugger, he simply loved all the fuss, bless him. Ergo it gave us all the more pleasure.

Good job, really. Because being dragged out the scratcher of a Sunday morning to answer the phone to "'Urry up, you'll 'ave it dark.." .. you passionately wanted to smash his face in.
