Morning blog fans, hope your weekend was as full of the good things in life as mine was - perhaps with the exception of quite as many take aways.

Chris Evans | 10:07 UK time, Monday, 9 November 2009

So this is The Millionaire week. Sir Tel and I take on the mighty ITV machine this Wednesday in an attempt to swell the coffers of CIN and Chase Hospice for kids.

How much will we raise, only God knows at the moment but in a little over 48 hours the answer will be out there.

So with every post between now and then please just drop in a fact of general knowledge that might just be useful.

Religion, Broadway, Hollywood, History, Art, Literature - anything, not bizarre factoids but solid facts, like: what common variety of tree is the Japanese acer a member of?

You know, stuff like that.

Meantime it's back to Encyclopedia Britannica for me,

Have a great day,

CLP.

2009.

Blimey, if I'm first I'm GOBSMACKED!! Doubt it, I've probably done something wrong. Been on holiday for a week so catching up on blogs and lovely to be back at work of course!

Trivia info eh? Hard to think when on the spot! What about doggy related ones as that's my forte - the breed of dog featured in the film Turner and Hooch (as Hooch the dog) was a Dogue de Bordeaux - aka a French Mastiff. Hope that helps! xx

Found an internet quiz site so here goes!

Q1. John Spilsbury is credited with putting together which baffling invention in the 1760s?
    Answer - Jigsaw puzzle
John Spilsbury was a London-based mapmaker and engraver who invented the jigsaw puzzle back in 1767. His first puzzle was a map of the world, simply a map of the world attached to a large piece of wood. He cut out each country from the piece of wood and gave the completed puzzle to a geography teacher so that his students could learn where the countries were by reassembling the map of the world. It took a 133 years for the first puzzle for adults to be invented and only eight years after that, a worldwide craze for these puzzles was in full swing.

Q2. A plot element in a film is often called which one of the following?
    a. Macbeth
    b. Macduff
    c. MacGuffin
    d. Macleod
    Answer - MacGuffin
A MacGuffin (sometimes McGuffin) is "a plot element that catches the viewers' attention or drives the plot of a work of fiction." Sometimes, the specific nature of the MacGuffin is not important to the plot such that anything that serves as a motivation serves its purpose. The MacGuffin can sometimes be ambiguous, completely undefined, generic or left open to interpretation. The MacGuffin is common in films, especially thrillers. Commonly, though not always, the MacGuffin is the central focus of the film in the first act, and later declines in importance as the struggles and motivations of characters play out. Sometimes the MacGuffin is all but forgotten by the end of the film.

    Answer - René Lacoste
Jean René Lacoste (1904 - 1996) was a French tennis player and businessman, nicknamed "the Crocodile" by fans because of his pugnacity on court; he is now known primarily as the namesake of the Lacoste tennis shirt, which he introduced in 1929. Lacoste was one of The Four Musketeers, French tennis stars who dominated the game in the 1920s and early 1930s. He won seven Grand Slam singles titles in the French, American, and British championships but never made the long trip to Australia to play in their championships. He was the world number one player for both 1926 and 1927.

    I like your thinking . .

I think the handiest way for us to drop some facts is maybe to write about what we know best, where we're from etc, so . .

Northern Ireland consists of 6 counties in total. The "province" of Ulster has 9 Counties, 3 of them being not in Northern Ireland at all - those are Co.Donegal, Co.Cavan & Co.Monaghan - all counties in the Republic of Ireland
(the other 3 Irish provinces being Leinster, Munster & Connaught)

    - you probably knew that anyway . . .

    Good luck . . .

Cor blimey. Not sure if I can help you Christophe. I seem to have a head full of answers, but I've gotta be arst the question first. NBG at all for you I feel.

    Let's see though.

Oranges are not the only fruit.

The Beatles were originally named the Quarry Men.

Bob Paisley is buried in the churchyard where Lennon and Harrison used to be choir boys.

The land upon which Gatwick Airport is built used to be a race course.

England won the World Cup in 1966.

The Great Hurricane was on the night of 15 / 16th October 1987 (just after I finished hosting an Ann Summers Party, but that's probably not for here).

The colour of water is blue.

    That'll have to do now.

Anyhoo, you were SUPERB on the One Show. Most defiantly one of their better guests! I'm sure you and the Lord of Wogan will do brilliantly on Wednesday. You seem quite bright, and I'm certain R Tel isn't as green as he's cabbage looking.

The Scottish contingency did arrive home safely. As did I. Evenshually. But that is an entirely other story. Which I can never tell MWK. Because she was worrying anyway. I neither got arrested, nor sold into white slavery. Suffice to say, I had to prostrate myself in front of several staff in order to avoid both those outcomes.

    Evening All,

Just got home - only kidding! Thanks to Bingo's fab directions we managed to find our way out of Liverpool a lot quicker than we did going in!! Delivered AnnieG and ChrissieS safely to their waiting families.

I had a brilliant time, so good to meet everyone such a great bunch of people. We had such a laugh, can't remember the last time I was in pain from laughing so much!

Scoobs - thanks for our wee chat, you are a sweetheart!

Bingo - Thanks for being you! Gorgeous and entertaining ;o) xx

Hello to Julian our "Beatles Tour" driver! xx

    Chris some facts for you:-

Chief Cashier for the Bank of England is Andrew Bailey

The quantity of 20p coins issued without a date was between 50,000 and 200,000.

They are said to be the first undated coins to be circulated in more than 300 years.

The date on the new 20p was moved from the 'tails' to the 'heads' side when the country's coins were redesigned last year.

The coins without a date were created by accidentally pairing up the new 'tails' side with the old 'heads' - meaning no date appeared at all.

Facts about the Statue of Liberty:-

Official dedication ceremonies held on Thursday, October 28, 1886

Total overall height from the base of the pedestal foundation to the tip of the torch is 305 feet and 6 inches.

Height of the Statue from her heel to the top of her head is 111 feet and 6 inches.

The face on the Statue of Liberty measures more than 8 feet tall.

There are 154 steps from the pedestal to the head of the Statue of Liberty.

A tablet held in her left hand measures 23' 7" tall and 13' 7" wide inscribed with the date JULY IV MDCCLXXVI (July 4, 1776)

The Statue has a 35-foot waistline.

There are seven rays on her crown, one for each of the seven continents, each measuring up to 9 feet in length and weighing as much as 150 pounds.

Total weight of the Statue of Liberty is 225 tons (or 450,000 pounds).

At the feet of the Statue lie broken shackles of oppression and tyranny
During the restoration completed in 1986, the new torch was carefully covered with thin sheets of 24k gold.

The exterior copper covering of the Statue of Liberty is 3/32 of an inch thick (less than the thickness of two pennies) and the light green color (called a patina) is the result of natural weathering of the copper.

Bless shorty - just been back on t'other side to check the zillion messages - must admit - I would walk to the next one too! Had such a blast could do with extended week-ends with all these guys. So many this time didn't get chance to have good chat with all - the time just zapped by so in a way feel deprived didn't get chance. Am positive there will be more though.

I really must go to bed !! Still thinking about Bingo and Chris spot in my imagination though!!! For those who have met Bings I am sure they will follow my drift!!! Really am off now! giggling!

    Morning all

Body clock still on Scouse time, so not had a lot of sleep which will bode well at about 3pm today, I am sure!

Now watching Sunday's MotoGP race - nowt like chaps in leathers to wake you up in the morn ....

Beez - toadally agree! Am thinking along the lines of "The World According To Bingo", or "Bingo Wings It" - CLP can set Our Man a daily challenge and Bingo can report back in his own inimitable way.

You just now, sorry, know, that everything would be 100% True!

Cath, it's foggy here this morning, and I'm not talking of The Blackburn Bullet of Superbikes fame!

See y'all later from the Factory d'fun

    Howya gobdaws!!

By the crin what a weekend we all had by the looks of it, the 'pool meet seems to have gone with bang thanks to the Deev and Bingo, hurrah!! Am still a bit ragin', mind. Ah well, I've me tent and me billy-can and the sou'wester prepared for the O2.

Now then. Questions for Who Wants To Be An Eejit. Let me think now.

Saint Patrick was born in Scotland.

    Dublin means Dark Pool.

    Leprechauns are shoemakers.

Tipperary borders 8 counties and it's a bloody long way off.

Hmm. Will 'ave to think a bit..

OOOooo did I just hear El Tel say CLP is doin' a book signin' in Dublin at the weekend? Marvellous, I'll be there wit me book an' the freshly-sharpened elbows. Hurrah.

What I was going to say is that, obviously, it's all gone mad over here over these 'ere Jedward twins. All over the papers, the news, the pubs, etc.

Now, speakin' as one who would rather stick me head in an angry beehive than watch the X Factor, I have to confess I watched the thing on Saturday. Ok, that wa partly because I was tied down and forced to by my gang of awful eejits, but in fairness, it was because I was curious to see what the fuss was about.

Ergo, not being a particular fan of Simon Cowell, the man leaves me indifferent, but I have to say that the man has pulled an absolute stroke a genius. All this nonsense has the textin' lines jammers and the show all over the place. Mind you, am greatly disturbed by people deranged enough to be makin' death-threats. What the...

    So fair play to him.

But I'll be washin' me hair next week. Or stung to death.
