Friday On The Breakfast Show. . .

Chris Evans | 11:39 UK time, Thursday, 18 February 2010

All records lead to Abbey Road. Tomorrow we will have a big pre-weekend push in our innocent but sincere efforts to heighten awareness of the importance of saving Abbey Road as a musical landmark.

Apparently under threat, in relative terms, it would not take that much of a unified and concerted effort to achieve this.

The National Trust want it to happen - and have the power to move mountains - but only if there is public support. So come on gang, today is the day. Tell anyone you know to contact them and lodge their name and backing - if they want to of course. . .

I would be happy to become a lifetime trustee of any future managerial team - for no other reason than I think it's very much worth doing.

Whaddya reckon ?

Sounds good Big Chief CLP - go for it . .

Sounding good today - hard to believe its just over a month since the radio world changed for ever - you're sounding as comfortable and relaxed as though you'd been there for ages and ages. (The contrast between sensible Lynn and Jonny's "thoughts" may prove to be a USP of the Brekkie show!!).

    Happy T'ursday e'vryone . . .

    CLP,

I do believe it's worth saving, but my own opinion (other opinions are available), it shouldn't be turned into a hotel or a museum, it should remain a working studio to inspire the next generation of musicians. Abbey Road isn't just about the Beatles, it's about Radiohead, Oasis and the countless other bands who have recorded there and been inspired by who went before them. And the ones still to come.

    Carl

  • Comment number 4.

You have my full support, for what it's worth.

Carl, I agree, if at all possible, it should remain at least in part, a working recording studio.

I emailed the National Trust this morning. I think it's a brilliant idea to get them involved, not least for the boost that it will give them as an organisation. They tend to have a bit of a stuffy reputation (unfairly, I'm sure) but preserving Abbey Road Studios would make alot of people see how relevant and important the National Trust can be.

    So there.

    Chris,

Most definitely the Abbey Road Studio must be saved! And, yes, should continue as a recording studio, if at all possible.

I will email the National Trust today - power to the people and all that!

    Afternoon Chris, Afternoon All,

Just enjoying catching up on the Breakfast Show on the iplayer. Good thing about that is that you can fast forward the tracks that you don't like or have heard too much! Not that you do that often, Chris!
Agree with you about Abbey Road. Although not sure Roman A.. (Rich Russian guy) is the right buyer. Maybe the public could buy shares?

Had a lovely day in London yesterday, daughter loved the University, so, hopefully, if she gets the grades, that's where she'll be going.

Really missing you on Drivetime, Chris. I'm persevering with Simon, but it is not the same.

    Afternoon everybody

Great idea to get the NT involved in the preservation of Abbey Road as a studio full of history (and historical moments still to come!). Fingers crossed things can get sorted.

Having a Friday feeling today as have got tomorrow off work (not that it'll be a quiet one as have so much to do) but will still be waking up with CLP at 7 to kick start the day. I feel I might need more energy when I'm not in the office than when I am!!

    Have great weekends all! Rx

  • Comment number 23.

    Morning!

Will email the NT now - such a fabulous idea. I agree about keeping it as a working studio. I mentioned yesterday about my visit to Sun Studios in Memphis - that is still working, albeit night times only so that the day time tourists can soak up atmosphere but so that current bands can use the historic facilities and continue to make good music there. I am sure the same could be achieved at Abbey Road.

Hope you are all having a good day!

I have already emailed the National Trust in support of Abbey Road. I'm already a member and know they are trying to ditch their stuffy image. Was going to leave over the hunting debate but decided to stay after their purchase first of Macca's home and now Mendips.

    Note to Nic

I was not being funny yesterday over spelling of your name - trained typist - though don't tell anyone - thanks Stafford College - auto pilot spelling of Nick (sorry Nic). Just thought it was funny that you had called me by the name I wanted to be but couldn't as had already been snaffled.

Oh Chrissie - I meant to say that I sympathise with the frozen shoulder. I have one too - started last April and is, if anything, getting worse. Sleepless nights, trouble getting dressed and undressed and generally a pain in the a**e (if that was biologically possible!). At least I now know that I am not alone!!

It has had one benefit - taken my mind off the dodgy knee!

    Miss P

  • Comment number 35.

Chrissie/Miss P - on the frozen shoulder, have you tried seeing a chiropractor? Mine freezes up two or three times a year (cue lurid speculation as to the cause - it's stress-related, honestly!) and a couple of sessions usually gets it going again.

  • Comment number 36.

    Hi Chris,

Can you please support and promote the idea of keeping Abbey Road working? The business ISN'T failing, EMI just need some money. We ALL need Abbey Road NOT a museum.

    Thanks,

    John

  • Comment number 37.

Scoobs: sorry I missed you! And thanks for the sympathy! xx

MissP: Oh No, a frozen shoulder since last April? Aaaarrgh! You poor thing. Are you getting physio, or doing anything for it? Of course, I ignored mine for over two months, just hoping it would get better. I tried acupuncture (which works brilliantly for my back pain!) but it was awful, the shoulder is too badly damaged to be helped by it. I now attend physio which I think is helping, but what a long road back. If both of us manage to get to a Blog Meet together, we'll be the ones unable to pick up our drinks - I never thought I would live to see the day!

    C xx

  • Comment number 38.

Carl: if there is one thing that terrifies me more than spiders, it is the thought of a chiropractor! Ooooh, doesn't it hurt? I mean, really REALLY hurt? Mind you, I am almost at the stage where I would try anything, but the thought of even worse pain does worry me ever so slightly!

    C xx

  • Comment number 39.

    Hi Chrissie.

It hurts. Oh God, it hurts....but no more than the shoulder does. If it's particularly bad, I just tell her and she eases off slightly, but it really does make a difference....definitely worth a try.

  • Comment number 40.

Sorry Chris but I'm not with you on this one at all. I am a member of NT and I feel the £10m-£30m being claimed as the value of the building would be better spent by NT in other areas. If you are going to have a campaign style day for it on your show tomorrow, I won't be listening.
I will be back on Monday, though, as I do love the show! :O)

    Nic

P.S. This is just my opinion and I know I am in the minority but sometimes you have to do and say what you feel is right, however unpopular.

  • Comment number 41.

    Dear "Ask Carl",

Another question, if I may. Is this the sort of thing I would discuss with the physiotherapist? You know how certain sectors of the medical profession think THEY are right, and would not advise you to try something else. I am seeing the physio tomorrow (he's gorgeous and about 25, and feels nothing but pity for me and my limp left arm!) and I wonder if I should say something to him about a chiropractor?

Chrissie ... who asks a lot of questions! x

  • Comment number 42.

Yeah but no but . . think of the revenue for the NT Nic. If they go along with what Miss P said happens at Sun Studios (tourists by day, recording artists by night) they'd be quids in, hence more money for more preserving of beautiful and important things. It's got to be a win/win, hasn't it?

    Or am I just being

    Barmy xx

  • Comment number 43.

Nic - it's a fair point, and I think it's one that NT themselves are considering. You should still listen tomorrow though, firstly because it's a campaign to save Abbey Road, not for the NT to buy it and secondly because I suspect the music might be quite good :-)

BTW - just got offered tickets to Vernon Kay's new ITV show. Wonder if there's a text competition....

  • Comment number 44.

    Hi Chrissie,

Good question. I know what you mean, I've had the same thing myself, but I think it's down to personal opinion really. Before I saw the chiro, I'd seen a couple of doctors, who prescribed painkillers and antiinflammatories, but they never really worked for me. I also have friends who've been to the same chiro as I have who believe that it's not helped them.

There's never any harm in asking - either the physio or a chiro. You can then go down the route that you feel most comfortable with, sometimes it's a process of elimination where you try various things until you find the one that's right for you.

  • Comment number 45.

Will do Christoph. As others have more for tourists and recording still to be carried on - not to be turned in to a hotel or the like!

Ipod update - the store did phone me back - person who deals on holiday !!! Got to phone tomorrow. Oh Joy.

For all north of me - the rain we have had all morning has now turned to thick blobby chucking it down snow. Again oh joy !

    Beez xx

  • Comment number 46.

Thanks Carl - I know, it's probably a process of elimination! I'll mention it tomorrow, and then see what happens.

And, love the joke about Vernon (what an eejit) Kay!

  • Comment number 48.

    Good afternoon Blogettes

In defence of the National Trust in cases where a large sum of money is required to purchase a property - they usually have an appeal to their members (plus others) to raise the funds. The most recent one I can think of was Tyntesfield (sp?) in the South West. That required a similar amount to that being mentioned for Abbey Road - if I remember correctly and largely came from donations.

Don't miss the show tomorrow Nic - just because you don't agree with the sentiment - life's too short!!

    Regards PJ

  • Comment number 49.

I hope that the Candyman was recorded there!

I'd be lost without my dose of sing-a-long a Sammy Davis Jnr!

  • Comment number 50.

    Hi Chrissie and Uncle Carl

I have had 2 steroid shots, am on waiting list for physio and have an rheumatology (sp) consultation at end March. I think I may have to go down the chiropractor route, even if it does sound like a type of dinosaur? What's the difference btw a chiropractor and an osteopath, by the way? Genuine question, not a joke!!!

Nic - please don't turn off the radio tomorrow! Fully understand your views and if we all thought the same, life would be dull, but you will be missing out on 2.5 hours of excellent music if Chris is focussing on material that has come out of Abbey Road. At the end of the day, it is the musicians that make the music - the studio facilitates it.

    Miss P

  • Comment number 51.

    Chrissie

I have had what was diagnosed by Doc as a frozen shoulder, went to chiropractor, who cured it ,as it was really a problem at the base of the neck.

In my experience physio's don't like Chiropractors as they think they deal with symptoms rather than causes!

A good chiropractor should look at the whole of your back and neck not just look at the shoulder as they should be ensuring it doesn't recur.

    Hope you feel better soon

  • Comment number 52.

    Hi MissP

Osteopathy is an approach to healthcare that emphasizes the role of the musculoskeletal system in health and disease.

Chiropractic is a health care discipline and profession that emphasizes diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine, under the hypothesis that these disorders affect general health via the nervous system.

I think that explains everything :-)

Very easily done when your sensitive & been through a lot of failed relationships!!!!!!
I read she was very badly 'urt by a bloke when she was younger & that's why she turned ter music & auditioned for the X-Factor!!!!!!!!!!
Suppose even though 'er career 'as gone amazingly well... and she's wealthy... still doesn't make up for a broken 'eart!!!!!!

I did wonder if the problem is actually "somewhere else" but given that I slipped on a chip (not a chip belongining to me!) in the train station, and landed fair and square on my left shoulder, I'm pretty sure that's what caused it. I should have reported it of course, and could at least have claimed back the money for the acupunture. Hey Ho!

That sounds more like you could have a neuropraxis (sp)?, which is where the nerve has been compressed by the impact and will free up given physio. But could be a rotator cuff problem or CV joint. Shoulder are complicated joints.

(20+ years of rugby gives you far too much information on injuries!)

Still worth a chiropractor trip though I think

    A

  • Comment number 68.

  • Comment number 69.

Hurrah Chris yous have my support. Will Twit an' Facelift an' whatever other demonstration of my ineptitude shall be deemed necessary.

Fair point, Nic; of course I see what you mean about the prority given by the NT. But hey, we can protest about what isn't happening or we can get behind something that might; I'm behind this one as a nostalgic gesture and a Beatles girl, but you are perfectly entitled to abstain. As I would if we were discussing Wembley Stadium, probably.

Now then. Frozen shoulders. What a pain in the bum they are. I had one a couple years back; have no idea what triggered it but over the course of a couple days I couldn't lift me left arm, couldn't reach for me bag behind the car seat, couldn't fasten the aul Over-The-Shoulder-Boulder-Holder, couldn't dry me hair, looked like Phil flippin' Oakley, what a nause. Went for physio, no good; well, had a bit of a laff wit the physio chappie, like; but still nada. But it simply healed itself, took a good while but it did, and now am back to me normal cheerleadin', coo-eein' self.

An' yous should see me in me orange jacket wit me table-tennis bats on the runway at Liverpool Airport.

So chin (and arms) up, sweetheart.

Any road up. Hows about Come Together to kick off with tomorrow?

Cheers Beez - LOL. Off to do battle with the elements.

    Tonight it's Lithium and Hydrogen.

    Little chemistry joke there....

Might pop in later, football permitting :-)

    Cheers

Beez: sorry to hear about the snow, I really do sympathise. I absolutely loathe the stuff now. Enjoy your glass of vino, you deserve it!

Thanks everyone for all the support and chat today!

Off home shortly, entertaining my lovely daughter's boyfriend this evening. Well, when I say that, I mean making a lot of noise when I go upstairs, before knocking on the door to say dinner's ready ....!

    Evening all

So, another afternoon in yet another recruitment agency, filling in yet more paperwork with the exact same details as those listed on my rather splendiferous CV ...... was in there for about 90 minutes, forms, then a data entry test, then a copy typing test and eventually about 10 minutes with the "consultant". She made me laugh - apparently the average score on the data entry is 4000 and I got 8385 so was they were pleased with that, and my copy typing came in at 58 wpm - she said they lookj for 30 wpm so my skills are "above average" (her words). Good to know those 22 years sitting at a desk haven't gawn to waste ....!

Then went to a local GP surgery to see about registering.

It's been snowing here for a fair while. Just had a text from Nic - he's managed 1 mile in 53 minutes. Late tea tonight then!

Right, off to see what the Mayoettes have been up to.

    Stay safe.

Chris, you would make a wonderful Trustee of Abbey Road - you're imaginative, creative and energetic - attributes which would be an asset.

Well, we haven't got snow up here in Fife, for once. Just you lot keep it, ok?

Open morning at the Primary School today so I went along just to make sure those teachers realise what highly intelligent children they have (my 2 grandsons of course), then work till 6pm. Thankfully am doing nothing tomorrow but entertaining a friend for lunch and awaiting ELH wine delivery and Liz Earl gorgeous stuff. I'll give you lot a thought in passing.

Deevs: Recruitment Agencies - rubbish, aren't they? Don't you just want to say 'Gies a job'. xxxxxx

    Evening All

Miss P you're right, it's horrible out there and I feel like I've been driving round in it all day!!

Never mind, home now, via the dentist for emergency treatment for boys - yes, both of them, and I'm not going out again until Monday!!!

Well, if it stops raining I might but no work til Monday so I might not be up for the start of Chris's show for the first time!

I have been over to the National Trust and voted for them to take over Abbey Road.

Nic, I see what you're saying about the NT concentrating on old properties but have 2 thoughts on that.

first, properties like Abbey Road are the heritage properties of the future and if we can "rescue" them now, then they can maybe be kept in good condition

second, if someone can buys Abbey Road, whether an individual or group who choose to donate, and gives it to them,I think the NT should be able to run Abbey Road at such a profit that it will make money to help support some of the more needy properties.

I'm happy for my membership fee to be used like that.

Had a real bad tea tonight, lemon chicken, rice and chips!! Well, the chinese chip shop is opposite the dentist - it would have been rude not too!!

also, Bingo, really don't think you have any need to put any apology on here

I think many of us know what you have in your heart (if that's not too fanciful a term) and we see that you are a good person

Iagree that the NT should take over the Abbey Road Studios as it is an historical site for the future. Perhaps it could one day be used as a recording studio again.

    Testing, testing, testing.....

    Hi de hi campers.

    Just back from Maplins.

Yes it was painful, but not as painful as PC world or Currys.

Thanks Beez and Uncle Carl for advice.

Blooming long way to go though, luckily, I had to venture to Brizzle today, so petrol was not an issue.

Debs, literally breezed right past your front door, but, as it was coming down thick and fast, kept going.

Must eat, back in a mo.
