Who Wouldn't Want To Stay At The Fab Four Seasons ?

Chris Evans | 10:34 UK time, Wednesday, 17 February 2010

Abbey Road for sale! Someone has to buy it to save it. It's too important and could also make a fortune if marketed correctly.

Hotel/Bar/Restaurant/Museum/Madame Tussauds style Thingy/Roundhouse style Thingy - whatever. If I was a gazillionaire - like I used to be, I wouldn't think twice about snapping it up. This is a must buy, must have - the ultimate in Beatles memorabilia.

O2 - where are you ? Richard Caring - woohoo ? Macca - calling you too ? Branson - come on son ? Sir Philip Green - you have to be seen !!!

Guys - seriously this could be a bargain and a lifetime of brownie points.

Perleeeeeasssse, somebody do something.

CLP

P.S. Loving the all new screaming, whooping and hollering REALLY LOUD TOGS on a Sunday morning!!!

CLP - I had the same thought as you - it needs to be preserved and if I could get the money and knowledge to run it as a studio and a toursit attraction I think it will be a great venture.

If any one is doing this and needs a beancounter I am 100% up for it, I already applied for a job there last year and it is on my 10 ten places i would love to work!

  • Comment number 2.

    CLP,
Definitely needs to be saved AND preserved and if they need someone to mind the doors, I am their man. See you there Baggy.

    Morning all.

  • Comment number 3.

Brilliant idea CLP - put me down for Systems testing and development.

Whoever buys it needs to annex the Zebra Crossing as well, set up something like a speeding camera that senses when people are on there and automatically taking piccies. These can then be posted on a website and purchased if required. That's my creative bit done for the week.

    Morning all

Definitely agree Chris, although some reports are that Macca is already talking with people about it?

Not just about contemporary music tho as Elgar was at the opening of Abbey Road studios in the 30's. Should be kept for all of the best of British music in the 20th Century

  • Comment number 5.

Totally agree Christoph - heard you this morning and I think you mentioned the right people to rescue it, although if I had just won the Euro lottery millions - I would be there. See? it should have been me! Not much chance as I didn't buy a ticket but never mind A?

There is nothing new about screaming hollering whooping Togs btw - we have Always been Loud :)

Great you will be popping in to the London meet Darce. Look forward to seeing you again.

It is now snowing at lot here.

  • Comment number 6.

    Morning Chris,

Agree with your comment about the noisy TOGS and the fact that you never miss the opportunity to say how LOUD Terry's trailer for his new show is!
However, I don't see what all the fuss is about this building. Surely, the music was the important bit, not some bricks and mortar?

  • Comment number 7.

    Morning,

Agree that Abbey Road should be saved, but as a recording studio, not a hotel. I'm sure it's still a going concern and EMI are only selling it because they need the cash, rather than because it's costing them money. How inspiring is it for any musician to record at Abbey Road Studios - I'd love to give it a go myself, just as soon as I've mastered another chord (that'll make it four!) and from what was said this morning, you might be getting the chance too....

Put me down to set up any PC's. I'll be there as soon as Rips gives me my pliers back....

    Cheers

    Carl.

  • Comment number 8.

Good Morning, I am allowed in today, Hurrah!!

It would be so exciting if someone bought Abbey Road and kept part of it as a working studio. The joy and pleasure of all the people who we have taken there over the last two years is irreplaceable.
I also saw Shania Twain there in studio one a few years ago... so many memories.

YOu know sometimes you have dreams... my dream would be to buy Abbey Road, and turn part of it into a tourist attraction... maybe even have a small studio for people to record a song. The photos and historic machines are already there... The canteen and gardens are lovely.

All in aid of ´óÏó´«Ã½ Children in Need of course...
I can but dream, best get back to work, still haven't got a big project for this year.

    Hells x x

  • Comment number 9.

Hells, you set up your dream, I will be right by your side :-)

  • Comment number 10.

P.S. Yes, I was one of those loud TOGs, a change from the once silent Tog who stood in the corner of your studio one Saturday afternoon shaking with nerves. *loL*

  • Comment number 11.

What we need is a social networking campaign to crowd-source the funds so that we can buy Abbey Road for the people.

  • Comment number 12.

go on then Staurt - you start it off on fb and I'll join in

  • Comment number 13.

    Beez,
I am convinced that you must live in a different time zone to me. Not many miles down the road but no sign of snow. I really dont mind, we dont need any!

    Anyway, good news

I've just found out I can still have sex at 74!

I am so happy because I live at 68, and it's not far to walk home . . .....

    I will get my coat.....

  • Comment number 14.

    Good morning blogettes

I'm agreeing with comments about retaining Abbey Road as some sort of tourist attraction. As for NicRolastic - shame on you. Every building is only bricks & mortar it is how they are designed or what has been achieved in them that make them stand out from the rest. Abbey Road is an important example of things being achieved inside not just 'some bricks & mortar'

I'm always struck when I visit 20 Forthlin Road or Mendips how these seemingly ordinary homes produced (some) of the greatest popular music there has ever been. If only walls could talk. They can't but we can imagine for a moment or two whilst we are there.

    OK off my soapbox

Hells - woo hoo you made it at last ! Was about to plough through the old blogs for my descructions !
Big project to buy Abbey Road perhaps ? as suggested by Stuart here Profits to CIN?

  • Comment number 17.

Let's not bother with HR. They'll only make us put hi-viz jackets on the cymbals....

  • Comment number 18.

PlaneJane - I feel no shame for expressing my opinions, to which I am entitled. I think if you actually read my comment properly, you are agreeing with what I said in that it's the music that's more important - as in your comment you said "Every building is only bricks & mortar it is how they are designed or what has been achieved in them that make them stand out from the rest".

  • Comment number 23.

    Morning!

I have been MIA since Thursday but will gradually catch up...

Totally agree about Abbey Road - needs to be preserved for its historic significance in the British music scene. A few years ago, we visited Sun Studios in Memphis - absolutely tiny place but filled to the brim with atmosphere.

So, put me down for project management!

  • Comment number 24.

    Good afternoon to you all.

If any acts are needed to kick start this new Abbey Road venture, please bear my 16yr old in mind.

Have just got back from a morning of interviews and auditions at our nearest college of performing arts.

He has achieved an acceptance for September. How nerve wracking it is, to see your child having to perform in front of a panel, phew, glad thats all over.

We had snow here on the way to Bridgwater this morning.

    Is it the weekend yet?

    Feels like it should be.

    FAME! I'm gonna live forever . . .

Speaking of leg warmers, did anyone catch the ladies' snowboarding cross from the winter olympics last night? Absolutely awesome.

Mr P watched the ladies snow boarding and was rhapsodising about it this morning. Am now worried that I will be asked to strap a plank to my feet and take the stairs in a snow boarding style!!

Found Stafford this morning. Registered with another Agency who are putting my in for a nice sounding job which will be temp to start with, but with the opportunity to apply for it to become perm. Gotta love the public sectot lot!

  • Comment number 34.

Hells - if you do one can I come and help please? I will make the tea/ clean/ whatever needed just to spend one day at Abbey wacthing it being used as a recording studio!

  • Comment number 35.

Right I have a fiendish plan. More fiendish then Frederick Fiendishly, Fiend Laureate at the Univerisity of Fiendery in Fife.....

All we have to do is to book Abbey Road Studios in the first week of November to record a `Blogs and TOGS' version of a Beatles song for CIN (preferably one with three chords so I can sneak into the background somewhere). A combination of STW, CLP and plain old guilt will mean they wonn't be able to say no.

In the meantime, that gives us a good six months to raise the cash to buy it ourselves by selling stuff we no longer want on eBay. Due to the failure of my `Cake Of The Year' idea, I have a number of things in my desk drawer with which to get the ball rolling.

Genius really. What could possibly go wrong?

  • Comment number 36.

UC - I'm in with you - although my singing is abysml and I cnnpt play an instrument I did get through Beatles rock back playing lefy bass a la Paul Mc, so if someone has a real lefty bass and shows me the chords I'll have a go .......

or I could make the tea?

  • Comment number 37.

    Smee again!

Are you sure you can't raid your piggy bank, Christoff?

As have already mentioned, what I heard of STW show, it was brilliant.

PPS CLP - thanks for starting todays Blog convesation, I was talking this very issue over with my friend and husband yesterday, it really is something dear to my heart!

  • Comment number 40.

Uncle Carl, did you not hear Richard Allinson saying to Chris that he would be recording a song for CIN *lol* I think it was a shock to Chris but I, of course loved the idea.
He could record the Christmas song with STW and then all we need it Sir Paul to join in and we are sorted.

I have asked Sir Paul's office, but I have a feeling he may be very busy at the moment, either buying it himself or hiding from everyone trying to persuade him to buy it.

for those who have not seen it, this is what we did at Abbey Road last year.... please don't let it die.

    Hells x x

Wouldn't it be wonderful if Togs and blogs joined together on this one?

As regards to Abbey Road, I too can make a decent cuppa and don't mind throwing my hat into the ring for admin and general bossing about. I am afraid I can't sing, but I could once upon a time play Home on the Range on the guitar!

Just in case any of you were in the least bit interested - you remember some weeks back me complaining about a possible appendix pain, which I was told by a Doctor friend of mine was more likely to be muscular. Well I finally made it to my Docs today and he is sending me for a hip x-ray seems it's a bad knee which is affecting my hip! Or may be I am just getting old!

AliB - I'd never actually thought of that. It is rather pointless me taking it off really :-)

Nic did you get out of bed the wrong side this morning or are you turning in to a grumpy old man early?

Ali B - I've had trouble with my knees over the years - today for instance, just decided to swell up for no reason and I sometimes get hip pain. Touch wood, since I've lost a smidge of weight - had no problems - doesn't really apply to you though 'cos you are slim. Hope the x-ray gives you the answer though.

Baggy, I agree with Barmy - sometimes when you don't want to go somewhere, you end up having a good time.

    Andy,

I am clearly in a minority of one on the Abbey Road issue but sometimes, things aren't what they first appear and a degree of cynicism, if that what you want to call it, doesn't go amiss.

    Hi Beez,

The weight issue was one for me, but I did loose two stone, so hopefully that has helped a bit. Sometimes I feel like Terry Wogan - never without pain! Although I think he's just had his knee replaced.

Beez - Not in the least bit grumpy thanks; just expressing my opinion.

Nic, I'm loving my new name, courtesy of the divine Clodagh. I have signed up to Twitter under my real name but I can't get the hang of it at all. The only thing I use it for is to see what Chris is up to and to read the brilliant musings of Alain de Botton. It's a waste of a good computer with me, I'm afraid.

PS it was Hazel McWitch in Rentaghost.

Thanks Andy and Barmy - There was also another witch, I'm guessing in another programme, she was green! I think her name might have been a bit rude or so I thought when I was little!
