Fewer and less, another minefield of the English language. What??? I have no idea. Of course I understand the rules but because, I suppose, somewhere deep in the recesses of my brain I don't agree with them necessarily, this kind of information drifts away, almost as if aware that it's probably preaching to the unconverted.
Any which way, our short story competition begins today. If you're thirteen or under we want to hear whatever story you have to tell us. It doesn't matter what you know or don't know, because this is all about making it up! You can't be wrong - how cool is that ?
Click on to 500 Words to find out more and TEACHERS - we need your help too - same place to find out how.

Wonderful to chat to Elton John this morning. A bundle of fun and a ton of talent. Always happy to talk about anything. He is both a superstar and a fan - the perfect combination. He loves what he does and loves the other people that do it too.
You gotta have your projects! They keep you going. Elton John is the personification of that philosophy. I have a treasure chest of respect for him. He has been to the dark side and back, and lived to sing the tale.
Long live S'r Elt !
Bon weekend tout le monde.

It's our Christmas lunch today. The perfect way to tinsel up a dreary reluctant Wednesday morning. More people should have their works Christmas do's in January - it's the way forward. Something to look forward too - December hogs the limelight anyhow, and restaurants need the extra business in their quietest month of the year.
And we don't have to have turkey !!!
Result.
Having said that, I actually quite like turkey. Anyway - Bon Noel and see you tomorrow - hopefully.

In a meeting, in Central London - wondering whether or not to capitalise the word Central. But then again this morning I said the phrase "more leaky" as opposed to "leakier". Oh forsooth the English language! What goes on wi' it.
Anyhow, this meeting that I'm in the meeting room for, s'one of those that you don't really want to have, but you have to have because you're a grown up, and grown ups have to do all this kind of business. When did that happen? When does the management of your life become a dagger in the stomach of consentitude?
Consentitude is a word I have just made up by the way. Shakespeare used to make words up all the time. He didn't actually have more words in his vocabulary than the average person, he just invented one he might need.
Right, goodbye for now but rest assured, I shall be back in touch one way or another.

Can anyone else beat three colds this winter? I am definitely on my third. What's all that about? That's where the mucus takes me - takes me to another sneeze, snotty nose and sore throat. Surely three colds should warrant some kind of prize or badge, or at least a year's exemption.
And as you may have heard, I also have these new adult invisible teeth braces in. They are a true wonder of modern medical science and probably wasted on me, but I'm giving them a go. I have decided this is the year for my ground up restoration. If it's good enough for a car - it's good enough for me. Bodywork first and then we'll get on with the respray.
Ha ha.

Nipped round the corner from the studio for a Friday Fry Up. Why the heck not?
Well actually, here's why not. My wife, who's off to see the baby wizard called to say she was in the area, and why don't I join her and Noah for brekkie. Of course I would love to, and I will, but she's already ordered me ANOTHER fry up - as a special treat.
Wide screen required for viewing tonight's One Show methinks.
In other news - our big Breakfast Show plan for 2011, will begin to be revealed next week.
Stay well and have a fab w/e y'all!

What a song their new tune is. When Love Is Dying. How their voices complement each other. How the melody flows from one style to the next. Excellent and tragic I'm sure, if you are listening to it at a particularly pertinent time.
Oh goodness me, music. The magic it holds within and beneath, and sometimes in between, almost "un" heard - it's just there. Stop me before I go any further. I'm coming over all sincere. That's never good for a character like me.
In other news - back on The One Show tonight with that little Welsh hottie Ms Alex Jones.
See you there, or back on the radio tomorrow morning.

Gary Barlow - or Zen Master as I will now think of him. I've met GB many times before but never really "chatted" to him before today.
What a straight down the line, down to earth guy he is. There's no side to him at all, or at least it seems that way. He's just great - plain and simple. Happily married, fit as a fiddle, exceptionally talented and comfortable in his own skin.
Just popping off to try and be like him - I'll see you in about a hundred years !

Had my first "catch up" with Hells Bells our Exec Prod today. After which, let me tell you - it seems like 2011 is gonna be a pretty busy one on the radio.
There's lots of big good stuff scheduled to take place, none of which I can reveal today but all of which seems like it's almost certain to happen. Several outside broadcasts are involved - always a good sign !!!
Gary Barlow tomorrow. Don't miss him, he's 40 you know.

Three weeks off and it's like we've never been apart. That's how life is though eh? When you're back, you're back and it's like you never went away - frustrating, annoying and reassuring all at the same time. And all those sofa and kitchen adverts in between.
Anyhow, had something really funny to point out but it got lost somewhere in amongst all the flood water splashes on the A40. Blimey, more water out there than even a desert would know what to do with.
Have a nice day now you lot. I'm off to buy a pasty. Diet starts tomorrow ;-)
