Bread Of Heaven

Chris Evans | 13:29 UK time, Tuesday, 1 March 2011

On St. David's Day of all days, and purely by coincidence no more, we were delivered a basket of artisan bread to our home this morning. I was made aware this might happen yesterday, and sure enough there it was waiting for me when I arrived in from work.

Now, when I say me, I do so not out of any primeval need for proprietorship, but because there was no one else around. As a consequence of this situation, please don't tell my wife or son that there were originally five loaves, as for some spooky reason there is now only evidence of three and a half.

Shhhh.

Bun's the word.

Hi Chris I love fresh bread and Mum's the word if you send me some.

Happy St Davids day everyone, Welsh and non Welsh. It's Welsh cakes and Cawl making for me. I don't know what my American friends will make of it.

Have a good one all - sorry haven't caught up

    Hello CLP & Everyone.

    Happy St David's day!

Thank you for playing Tom Jones with The Green Green Grass Of Home Chris. It was my dear old dad's favourite song (he was Welsh) and it makes me feel very emotional when I hear it.

I love Wales, I've had many childhood holidays there and also many lovely days out, must have covered most of Wales.

    MM xxx

PS Who ate all the bread LOL (seen the pics on twitter!)

  • Comment number 4.

Hi Chris: glad you enjoyed the bread - Tash and Noah won't hear a word from me on the matter! Chris, the show just keeps getting better - I wouldn't have believed it possible, but it does. xx

MaW: always nice to see you, when you get the chance to pop in. xx

As for Wales, I have never been there, but a place that our lovely Crumpy calls home, must be pretty alright. xx I'll get there one day!

Feel free to laugh at me but there is something about hearing Guide me, O Thou Great Redeemer (the tune is Cwm Rhondda) or Men of Harlech or All Through The Night (my Dad used to sing this at me while gardening and things like that lol.) One is Rhyfelgyrch GwÅ·r Harlech and the other is Ar Hyd Y Nos.

Anyhoo off to sing at myself seeing as the radio got switched off around 1ish

  • Comment number 7.

So I started my sentence followed by a little lesson but didn't get back there lol.

So the hymn there is something about hearing it and I feel it somewhere im ribs. I'm more irish that I am welsh but there is something about it that grabs my attention

  • Comment number 8.

Hannah: oh, I agree entirely about the music. All Through The Night makes me cry!

    Hello CLP et al

Chris, You can't beat fresh bread, preferably slathered in butter. If you care to lob some my way, your secret will be safe with me!

Cracking show this morning, as always. How you exude all that zest and enthusiasm so early in the day, I will never know.

Chrissie, thoughts are still with you and your family xx

We are playing the waiting game at the moment, GD2 f-i-l is very poorly and it is so sad to see, even more so as he has always been so active.

Hello to everyone else, I have been lurking, but not had anything of interest to contribute.

Happy St David's Day, and Happy Birthday to GD1.

Wedding Aniversary yesterday, 32 years, yikes!!

    Afternoon Each,

I hope you are all having a good day :)

I love a fresh loaf but don't get to treat myself to one very often as I can't eat it all before it goes stale. So I usually wait until long weekends and then it's a real treat with butter (proper butter) none of this I can't believe it's not malarky, because it's not..LOL.

MM, Glad you've got your oxygen sorted and that you are now having more peaceful nights sleep xx

Pen, Happy Anniversary for yesterday xx

And a Happy St David's Day to you all. I am an honorary Welsh sister to my very good friend who now lives in Hong Kong, so tonight I am going to make Welsh cakes in her honor.

I've had both bosses in today, neither of them come to visit for weeks and then both turn up at once!! It's been mad here and they've both given me piles of work to do - oh well at least the days will go a little bit quicker. And of course they've left me the washing up to do and eaten all the biscuits....men ;)

    Not long till home time.

    Afternoon All

Ali, I think it must be "Bring Your Boss To Work Day!" My boss's boss turned up this morning - apparently there should have been a letter saying she was coming to see a resident! Unfortunately the letter seems to not have appeared so the resident had gone out!

Luckily the boss had bought her magic wand so while we waited she bought a lot of heaters and we spent an hour putting wheels on them!

Pen, I saw that G*k was in Bristol - I'm going out so I've set it to record!

I feel I am rambling so I'm going to go lie in a dark room! I blame the fact that I'm not used to having anyone at work with me let alone the Boss Boss Lady!

Well Chris I can't see any bread hanging around so you must be in the clear, nothing like a fresh batch of bread to waken those taste buds is there.

I'm sure your loyal blogger will leap to your defence and tell me that you are so busy and that we should just be grateful for anything you deign to write.
My point is that if you don't have the time to use this blog properly then don't be so greedy and hand it over to someone who will do it justice.

    Thanks CSN, MTF and Maddy!

Don't worry Toothy, I know what you meant ;-) - heard the shout-out to you on the radio today - that woke me up!!

Mads - yup; sounds like you've got the handle on my situation! I actually dread coming home from work at the moment, as I'm never certain of what I'm going to find when I get there! Numpty builders - if it isn't water pouring through one of my ceilings it's no water at all! Jasper like builders normally - but these can be thankful that he's at work with me; after all their nonsense Jasper would love to get his paws on them!

Thinking about the Wales/Whales texting debate on the show this morning (nice Johnny-diversion work by Lyn there, I thought!) - the text message wouldn't be wet if the whale sent a text while floating on his back, would it? So squash to you, Johnny Saunders. Or is there a law on texting while swimming...?

I know a very good joke about whales, but it's too rude for here.
