Good morning CLP and everyone else from a grey and miserable Ayrshire, but at least the temperature is occasionally reaching double figures now and there's no need for the outside lights in the mornings.

When I have the cold, I just like to take flu capsules and carry on regardless as much as possible, sometimes that is not possible though and you just have to put the electric blanket on and give in.

Listened to Baggy this morning on GN, she sounded great.

My cure for colds, don't get them in the first place and you can avoid them by not travelling on public transport or having children! Works for me :) The last time I was poorly with a cold was last August, when I'd just spent a week camping with teenagers and I ended up with a camp cough!

Sezza, Thanks for thinking of me when your boy was doing his music exam. I've got the delights of that the next two Thursdays, shall I take my ear plugs to work? I hope he did well, my heart does go out to them all xx

Hope everyone is OK, been a bit lax in blogging lately but I have been lurking. Life is hectic and also little bits of my world have been falling apart but I smile and carry on. As the song says, that is beginning to get on my nerves as it's played so much - l i f e g o e s o n - for me it's becoming the firefly song, enough already!

Hello CE & Everyone.

A lovely day here in Wirral.

My advice to Ken is keep warm and have plenty of drinks (of the soft variety) although it is said that a drop of brandy or whisky is good.

Really there is no cure for a cold so just to make oneself as comfortable as possible until it goes it best and if it doesn't go after a good while then go to the doctor.

In my case a cold could mean a short hospital stay because of my COPD which I don't mind too much either, i.e. food brought to me on a tray, television, reading, crosswords and often a good laugh.

Today shall I clean the bedrooms or go down to the prom?

KandK - Re Post 13, I think it's our vets that need to watch out for clients strangling them, they use an out of hours service called Vets Now, which is like an A&E for animals, they don't have access to your animal's health records, and you have to pay them there and then, whereas I have an account with the actual vet's, last Sunday when Ellie was ill, at the end of the day, I had a dead dog, a broken heart and a £900 bill, which went straight onto a credit card, as I don't have that sort of money! Needless to say, our cats and our other dog Glaid have now been insured, and I'm afraid I will be changing vets to one who do not use an outside company for emergencies.

Gail, that is awful. Just looked at my latest new letter from the vets and it reads.

Vets Now work with us to provide top quality emergency care for your pet. They bring their own expertise in emergency medicine and critical patient care and at night will have computer access to your pet's previous clinical records so will be fully aware of any on going or previous medical conditions.

I have never had to use this service yet but you have now made me think about it.

CSN, That's good that your practice is giving them access to the animals records, ours don't and I felt as if the whole thing was money based rather than caring for the animal, it just left a really bad feeling about the whole thing, as if the day wasn't bad enough! Probably not as bad if your pet is insured, but again, would you have to pay up front and then claim the insurance, in which case it's still going to be really expensive, I don't know what I would have done on Sunday had I not had my credit card with me.

Nothing of course will cure the common cold, but there are plenty of remedies that will ease the situation. Can't remember the last time I had a cold, most likely I've put the mockers on it now!!
