2Day is Gonna Be The Day.

Chris Evans | 07:24 UK time, Wednesday, 22 June 2011

2Day gets under way in ten minutes. I know this because even though I technically have a lie in because I'm not on till midday 2Day because the traffic is so bad ALL THE TIME in London, I thought I might as well get in the car and get on my way anyway and so I am pulling into town now and listening to Lynn Parsnip talk about it.

So, what to do for the next five hours, I may take the drastic action of going to the gym to kill a bit of time and shock my body into some kind of physical exertion.

Or maybe I'll just go for a massive fry up.

    Morning Chris.

Spare a thought for those of us travelling in and around Glastonbury today, that aren't going to the mud bath!

    Morning Chris and bloggety chums!

I'm really tired today after a late night at the rubbish pub quiz, so no CLP to dunk me into the day was a bit of a shock to the system. I think I enjoyed Simon and Jamie's hour between 7-8 this morning but really, really missed the banter and va va voom that Chris and the team deliver faultlessly every morning.

Loads to do today as my business venture is becoming more of a reality. Excited. Scared. Daunted. Delete as applicable! All of the above?!?

Looking forward to watching the Beeb highlights of Glasto (sorry Sezza!), particularly the Friday night line up of U2 and Morrisey. Wowser!!

Right, I think a strong cawfeeee is called for. And I would literally run through hoops of fire for a bacon buttie right now ....

    Onwards, and indeed upwards.

    Good Morning CE & Everyone.

A lovely sunny day here on the Wirral peninsula.

Five hours is a long time Chris so I think that you should do both, spend some time in the gym and then have a massive fry up. You'll end up with the same amount of calories.

Looking forward to listening to you and Zoe at 12.00 while I'm eating my sarnies!

Absolutely hating 2day. Changed stations for the rest of it.

  • Comment number 9.

It started off well, then I turned on the radio at my favourite station Radio 2, only to find Janice Long on the radio (some one would have to put a gun to my head for me to listen to her normally), so I guess this is what the 2day is all about?

Janice Long is the last person I would listen too and if I wanted to listen to her I would, but I make the choice not too, now Radio 2 is breaching my human rights, so I will take the only action possible and turn to another station....

    Hi Chris

Woke this morning looking forward to hearing your show after a week in Crete and what do I find? You're not there, the schedule is up the swanny and Jonny's been away on a mystery trip somewhere! What is going on? I've only been away for a week and the world as I know it doesn't seem to exist anymore!

  • Comment number 11.

Shobbs and LCD, it is very strange isn't it!

Not sure I like everything but at least there's only an hour of each bit then something new comes along

I'm liking Johnny Walker and Joe Brown at the moment - two old professionals and some very good tunes!

Lynne, don't worry, it'll all be back to normal (?) tomorrow!

    Sezza xxx

  • Comment number 12.

    Morning all

I am also enjoying Johnnie Walker and Joe Brown. I'm taking the rough with the smooth, after all it's only an hour for each programme!

    Off to find the ark!

    Pen xx

ps Chris, a massive fry up - the only way to go.

  • Comment number 13.

    Morning All,

I'm loving 2Day, people just need to embrace it for what it is. We all become such creatures of habit and heaven forbid if someone disrupts our normal routine. I would much rather have had Claudia than Vanessa but never mind. It should be a fun day, if not a little confusing!!

It just goes to prove what a diverse radio station Radio 2 is and I guess that's the point :)

Chris, I hope by now you've come to your senses and had the fry up.

    Happy Hump Day

    Hi everyone,

Great to hear CLP on with Simon and Jamie this morning, their hour and between 6pm and 7pm will probably be all I will get to hear of 2day but I think it's a great idea.

Haven't been posting as I haven't got anything of interest to say but I have been lurking.

    Have a good day everyone.

Why oh Why are you and Zoe Ball still on Radio 2. Surely we have better talent than you 2 to chose from.

  • Comment number 24.

Only one criticism of today's show - not long enough. I know you are squashed for time though, so am glad for what we did get, thanks.
Completely off the topic, and feel abit taking advantage, but can you help me out? .
Can you remember a song in the 80s that was similar to Bruce Springsteen - it might have even been by somebody in his band. The video was of the band sitting around having drinks and playing guitars and the guy wore a bandana. It sounded like the Springsteen song Glory Days. I have a feeling it was around the time of Belinda Carlisle's Mad About You song. I can't remember any of the words, or the tune, crazy I know. Any ideas? I have this song on a mixed tape, which is back in NZ in storage, so cannot access it and it's driving me mad, not being able to remember. You seem to be well versed on the 80s front, so any help (or anybody else who's reading this)?

  • Comment number 25.

    Hi everyone:

Have been trying all day to get on the blog, but am always told there is "a problem". Hope this gets through!

Now, I know this is a bit of sweeping statement, but I think 2Day will be as unexpected a hit as Live Aid was. No-one expected Live Aid to be the fantastic experience it was, and on a much lower scale, I think we'll look back at 2Day in the same way.

    Or, maybe it's just me!

Loved Simon and Jamie this morning (and I thought it was lovely when Chris popped in) and also heard a bit of Jo and Vanessa, neither of whom I ever hear, and I thought they were terrific. Bill Kenwright was fabulous - and of course I was crying listening to "Tell me it's not true".

Can't wait to listen again, to all of it!

    Afternoon,

Hello to the newbies popping in.

There seem to be very mixed opinions about 2Day, which of course everyone is entitled too.

It's raining here, as long as it stops by the time I have to walk home I don't mind. It must soon be time for an afternoon brew :)

Chrissie, It's funny that you said you thought it was lovely with Chris popping in this morning, csn thought the same as you. Personally I thought it was rude of him, as Simon and Jamie didn't have much time and he high jacked some of it with waffle about Wimbledon and The Edge. It would seem that our friends over the other side thought the same. It's a good job that we don't all like the same things as it would be a sad world :)

Right kettles on - what's everyone having?

    AliB
    xx

  • Comment number 28.

    #24 - Nils Lofgren??? Bruce's guitarist.

  • Comment number 29.

Hi AliB: I know what you mean - it could have been construed that Chris was "butting in" but you know, I just didn't see it that way. Of course, I have not heard all of 2Day's broadcasts (see what I did there?!) but it would seem there has been a lot of people "popping in" to other people's shows. I don't think for one second Simon Mayo (winner of a Gold Sony) or Jamie Cullum (musician extradonaire) were affected at all by Chris's witterings. It all seemed such good craic.

But, yes, it would be a very sad world if we all liked the same things. As for our friends on the other side (which I have not read), they are entitled to their own opinion, just as I am entitled to mine.

Thank goodness there's room for everyone on the good old World Wide Web.

If the kettle is still on, can I have a hot toddy - it's freezing here!

I have really enjoyed 2day today. Bit disappointed that some bloggers have just come on to have a pop at it.

I have had the chance to listen to some other presenters that I would not necessarily listened to or even chosen to listen to.

I do get the feeling that our Mr Evans has probably had a lot more to do with this then just be involved, do you think he may have been the ideas man. I think so.

Anyway well done Radio 2. Keep it up. :-)

  • Comment number 32.

  • Comment number 41.

BreezyK It could have been Nils, as suggested earlier, but I think Little Steven (Stevie Van Zandt) is a more likely option. Either him or Southside Johnny. I think the former, though. Check this out...

  • Comment number 42.

    Hi all

I'm not convinced about 2day. The concept is fine but I agree it should probably be done on a bank holiday so that you could appreciate the whole day rather than the bits that were on when you usually listen. In my case it was the second half of Simon and Jamie (not totally into Jazz in the morning, it was a bit slow until CE popped in), a bit of Vanessa and Jo (again poetry is an acquired taste and is OK at the appropriate time - not when driving.....) and finally 10 minutes of comedy - which I did enjoy and wish I had left work earlier to listen to more.

Great to see some newbies, please stay and comment occasionally.

    Hugs to all (((()))))).

    evening peeps
2day has been a bit of a mixed bag for me.
I did enjoy Simon and Jamie - the half hour I heard but I prefer familiar songs that are a bit more lively to keep me awake on the drive to work.

Busy then and didn't hear much early on but caught the 2nd half of Johnny and Joe then a gap and the end of Chris and Zoe and enjoyed the music but the 'waffle' got on my pip a bit.

Some of Michael Ball and David Jacobs - loved that laid back stuff but the best bit of the day for me was Tony Blackburn and Trevor Nelson. I sang along on the drive home to all but one track (didn't know it). Sadly missed the last concert bit.
Is it available to watch listen again? I will have to look.

off to wash up tea plates and have a cuppa.

    Evening all,

I did miss my usual show this morning as you know just where you are and in that order .I'm normally in the car as pause foe thought is on and getting to work as Ken Bruce comes on.
Must admit Chris does get you going in the mornings.

I did get to hear a little of David Jacobs ,his voice never changes ,just a tad older maybe but still so lovely.

Also heard some of Ken Bruce and Bob Harris ,what a great duo, they complemented each other very well.

My favorite though must be Tony Blackburn and Trevor Nelson,,chatty ,funny and they played my favorite music ,my era .

Not listened to Jules Holland ,must admit not really fond of him at all.

Radio 2 Day ,has I think proved that it caters for a wide range of people and their tasted whatever it may be.

Had three of boywonders friends over for tea for his 9th birthday today
There was much hilarity over the pronunciation of 6 in German. I didn't know it was sex either.!!
Off to the Sat and Sunday of Hard Rock calling this weekend. Highliht will be seeing Stevie Nicks on Sunday. A life long ambition achieved. And if my specially prepared missile lands at Jon Bon Jovi's feet on Sat, who knows, i might achieve another!!!! Woo hoooooooo.
Both my sisters are over for it, some session to be had!!

Like magpies - hilarious! Now I've got so much space in the garage there is no excuse for proper tidying it now - can see some trips to the tip at the weekend :-(

Alls well in the debs house - just 2 A level exams left for GD and then peace can reign - thought this mornings pause for thought very apt for this house right now!

I went to see Jools and his band in Stoke over a year ago and I can say that it was one of the best concerts I have ever been to.

For £36 it was outstanding value and he entertained constantly for 2.5hours and didnt come off the stage in all that time.

Ruby Turner was exceptional and I rocked my socks off with a loud jazz version of enjoy yourself. Absolute brilliance.

If you ever get the chance go and that is same for anyone else who is reading this go and see him, me and other alf werent sure when we booked it but at the end we couldnt stop smiling.

I think Deevs would know that feeling when you have been to a chest thumping, foot stomping, small venue gig.

Loved the Tony and Trevor collaboration yesterday afternoon, should be done again.

bon voyage for now, may pop back later
