An extraordinarily buoyant mood...

Chris Evans | 10:56 UK time, Monday, 15 August 2011

...for a Monday this morning. I put it down to the California blue sky that greeted London today. Everyone was so chipper. And then after soliciting nationwide weather in a flash, it transpired that the South East was not the only place waking up to that oh-so-welcome golden orb in the sky. From Aberdeen to Cornwall, Mr Sunshine had his hat on the side of his head, except Manchester that is. Sorry Manchester.

Lynn and I are gonna spend the rest of the day perusing what we might buy in the M.O.D. bargain basement sale. I'm bang up for a Landy, whereas I fancy The Bowler has her eye on a Gazelle helicopter. Watch this space.

    Hello CE & Everyone,

The sun has got his hat on here in Wirral too Chris, it certainly makes us all feel happier and more optimistic. It always rains in Manchester.

Looking forward to hearing all about what you and Lynn buy in the M.O.D. bargain basement sale. Don't get carried away!

    Morning CLP et al

Heard Ken talking about buying the ark royal this morning - that would be brill for a blog meet! We could sail around the UK and pick everyone up as we passed their port - what do you say? how much is 拢3mill divided by a blog of bloggers do you reckon?

The sun showed its face fleetingly today, now its grey :-(

Right quick bite to eat then its back at it

    Afternoon bloggers

I would like to report a crime, someone stole my weekend..............

Got a wedding on Saturday booked a room at the hotel but couldnt get into the room until 14.00 and that is when the wedding is, I asked to go in early about 12 to get changed etc and they tried to charge us another 拢10 each couple. So being stubborn I cancelled the room and became designated driver instead.

So we have visitors stopping with us all weekend which will be nice.

I think if I was going to buy something from the MOD it would have to be a tank, preferably LPG converted and then I wouldnt have to pay high prices for petrol and road tax and parking would never be a problem.

I hope you all had a good weekend - I am sure that I can smell birthday cake, isnt it someones birthday on here very soon....

    Afternoon Each,

It's glorious here in Kent. I've been to the seaside this morning as well, unfortunately for a meeting so I didn't get to dip my toes!

If the MOD are selling off hunky men in uniform, I'd happily take one off their hands ;)

Gail, That's the article I was refering to on Friday, I thought it was excellent x

Well this weekend I popped to North Wales for a Christening and to see my friend who is over from Hong Kong and my gorgeous Goddaughter. I had a great time and it was really lovely to see everyone again. The weather was fine, no rain!

Tonight I am off out for the final goodbye to my boss, a meal at a country pub. He has just asked if I can pick him and his wife up so they can have a drink, which is fine except I am about to go and buy a bouquet for his wife, so I am not sure how I am going to manage to hide them in my Corsa!!

    Happy Days

Chris, I was feeling a little resentful this morning but you, the music and a small family of deer managed to turn my mood right round! If I hadn't had to come out to work, I would never have seen the deer for one thing

Yesterday, we had a lovely afternoon in Canary Wharf!

As part of their summer festival, they had a free jazz concert in the park. Although I wouldn't say all the music was to my taste, there was a good mixture (and the wonderful Clare Teal to finish the day although I have now discovered the Sarah Gillespie - what a powerful voice!)

It was a great day for people-watching too. I loved the couple salsa dancing in the corner and the older gentleman in the hat who followed them. The Lady Gaga look-a-like (hair half blonde, half black with a jaunty mini top hat perched proudly) gets an honourable mention but my favourite sight of the day was the wee baby in the bright yellow ear-defenders, dancing with his Dad!! Guaranteed to brighten anyone's day

All in all, a great day and, best thing, totally free!

Did you hear who Chris' guest will be on Friday? I think there may be a few from here who have a sudden attack of the "feeling unwell, need to stay in bed and listen to the radio's" coming on!! Especially our Baggy maybe?!

    Hi all

Sorry I've not been around, haven't caught up either...so hugs to those who need them and Yays! to those who don't!!

So this weekend I made the big decision to quit my current job....some of you will know I hated it! I was losing the little confidence I have because of it, and it was draining me... Actually making me physically sick, and with no ladies loo on the same floor, that was becoming an issue! Especially as I can't run up or down stairs...

I feel 100% better for it, I can't say I was proud about the way I went about it! Leaving a note under the door with the keys at 6.45am this morning, after collecting my few things I had there, is probably not the best way, but just feel so much better for it!

Didn't sleep at all last night, so got a couple of hours when I got home at 8am...

Anyhow, onwards and upwards, I have a second interview on Wednesday, which might, just might, be the right job for me, and less travelling too...across the road from where I used to work :)

I can't say I'm having a glass to "celebrate" as my tummies not up to it, but I certainly feel happier....just need to break the news to my Mum lol x

    Hi All

What a day... well done JG, that was very brave but as you say the best thing for you in the long run.

I heard Afternoon Delight this afternoon and immediately thought of our Beez with a smile.

Now then Chrissie, I suppose you want David Ten-inch on the days that I've got David Cassidy - there is such a thing as greed you know.

I have been trying to book a late summer/autumn holiday, we thought we had found a great deal at the end of September/beginning of October, but I can't get that time off work 'you know that's our busiest time....' despite being told a few weeks ago, 'try to avoid that time but as long as your tests can be covered...' soooo, I've been on t'interweb again and found one at the end of October (the same cruise but even cheaper....) I'll try the boss with that tomorrow and if she agrees, it will mean that unfortunately I will miss the York blog meet but it will mean that we get another cruise.

    Quizzing tonight.

    Evening All,
Love the chat about the ex-military stuff for sale this morning.
I'll take one of those roofless Landies if there's one going.
Calling it a fire sale seems a bit unfair. It's been around for years. My mate bought a Green Goddess about five years ago for 拢2000.00 Fully working condition, with all the hoses, tools...everything!
We even took it to a rival station's (the one CLP used to own) breakfast show (before Chris returned to the mornings obviously) and let them use it for a reverse parking competition.
The news reader (female) went up against the show's runner (male) in attempting to reverse park it onto two parking metre bays. Great fun! She won....
I drove it back to High Wycombe where he keeps it to this day.
Difficult doesn't begin to describe it.....
He still owns it, and it's available for weddings, birthdays, bah mitzvahs etc etc

JG - good for you mate. Good luck with the new one.

Hi to the rest of you. Hope you're all winning!

    Evening all,

Chris, the weather was true to form here today. Sun - rain - sun - rain - sun.......

A Landy might come in handy here in the winter but I quite fancy the idea of a Gazelle or other fast/powerful mode of transport so that I could whizz up and down the country ferrying the bloggers to the blog meets.

AliB - Weekend sounds lovely, nice that you got to see your God Daughter.

Bids your weekend sounds lovely too.

Gail - excellent article, thanks for the link.

Seeza - liked your deer story. Some mornings I see them grazing in the field in front of my flat - they are so elegant and graceful.

MM - well said on the previous blog re the Thatcher years!

    Clodagh - Well said on your post too. I've been thinking about you recently - I knew it was getting close to Damian's anniversary xx {{{{hug}}}}

JG - good for you and good luck with your second interview xx

DT fans - I think we need a rota but I'm not volunteering no sireee! ;o)

MtD - I hope you get the days off you are looking for.

Annie & Chrissie - mini meet before Christmas sounds good will have to start saving my pennies.

Hiya Rips - like the story of the Green Goddess.

Feel a bit down in the dumps today, being back at my desk after a really lovely couple of days away with Nic. If you ever get the chance, I can highly recommend Bourton on the Water in The Cotswolds - it is just picture postcard perfect. And on the way back home yesterday we stopped off at Anne Hathaway's Cottage in Stratford Upon Avon - again, picturesque, beautiful: the overwhelmsing sweetpeas in the garden just stunning.

I will be doing the "names in the hat" for CiN today or tomorrow so will let everyone know the outcome ASAP.

Well pretend you haven't noticed but it's sunny here in North Wales. It hurled it down last night.

    Can I smell birthday cake?

Hope all are OK. Regards PJ

    Happiness is ....

Being barefoot in the kitchen, baking a cake, with the iPod on LOUD. And then it gives me this gem ...

If you're feeling down in the dumps, play this at a fairly liberal volume and I can GUARANTEE it will put a smile on your chops.

Cake in the oven. Tea under control.

    Evening each

Happy Birthday to our Birthday Girls

Rips/Tiggs, how kind of you both to think of getting me a Kindle for my burpday but I'VE ALREADY GOT ONE - didn't you know??

Am wrestling with a voice recorder at one end of the laptop and a cd at the other and can I get the two to meet? Can I heck, am waiting for the long-suffering son-in-law to arrive.

    Back in a bit. xxxx

Hello everyone! Hope you are all OK.

Looking forward to hearing the luscious Mr. Tennant on Friday. He's very lovely but, fear not girls, I believe I shall be sticking with Owen Wilson and James Blunt for now. I would not wish to be greedy.

JakeyG - I think you're REALLY brave, much kudos to you for having the guts to break free and LOTS of luck for a happy future.

Baggy - You will look FAB in your dress, no question.

Deevs - HAPPY 21st-&-a-bit for TOMORROW! And to everyone else who's celebrating theirs too... x

Re. Mr. Chris's blog-post - I think Lynn definitely should get the helicopter - it's the ultimate girls' accessory - a handbag that flies!!! ;-)

I love listening to Canon Anne Easter when she's doing PfT - I liked what she was saying about books. It reminded me that, when I took my little nephew to the Roald Dahl Centre as a treat a couple of weeks ago, we all got an entry 'wristband' so that we could come and go and it had a quote from Mr. Dahl on it which said "No book ever ends when it's full of your friends." I thought that was really lovely. I always wanted to be George in the Famous Five... (perhaps I still do - Jasper is my Timmy)!!!

    Keep smiling!

A Kindle Annie, Really? You should have said. Any good? ;-) (ps yell when you get fed up with us!!)

I'm looking forward to that cake tomorrow

Virual cake is all I should be eating. Having decided to make a real effort this week and lose a couple of pounds at least, I have actually put 3 pounds on! :-(

Don't you hate it when that happens! It's really depressed me!

Hello, Deevs. You popped into see us next door, and noticed that we sometimes use bold lettering over there. How, you ask. Basic HTML is the answer. If you cap shift on the the comma on your keyboard, there is a left pointing arrow thing. Another over the full stop points to the right. You will also note the forward slash. These are the only tools you need.

First thing is to type the left pointy thing, then the letter b and then the right pointy thing, thus giving you a b inside those pointy bracket things. Then type whatever you want to appear in bold. Once you have done this type the left pointy thing again, immediately followed by a forward slash, then b again, and finally the other right pionty thing. Give it a try. Although, we also do this!

Sezza - hehe. actually I wouldn't mind putting a few pounds on - but 拢s, not lbs! ;-) I've got 拢12 to last me for the rest of the month - wahey!! That's the perfect way to lose weight ;-)
