King Gong Don't Go...

Chris Evans | 11:42 UK time, Wednesday, 17 August 2011

How good was Alasdair the gong man today?

And who doesn't love a gong? How can one not?

Get a life, get a gong. When you gotta gong - you gotta gong. Gong in sixty seconds. The surprise gong theme set up by the team completely set me up for the day.

I think I may have to have one in my life on a more permanent basis.

Two days and counting to David Tennant on The Breakfast Show.

Peace and love

What more can be said about the mighty gong? In the words of the legendary Marc Bolan .....

Get it on, bang a gong.

I am now singing (in my head!) a somewhat warped version of Hong 'Gong' Garden by Siouxsie & The Banshees!

I feel a tranche of gongy type songs deluge isn't far away.

Hi Chris: I missed the gong thingy this morning - will have to check that out. I always loved the big gong that used to herald the start of the film in the cinema ... Rank Organisation, I think?!

    Good day everyone,

Very quick visit from me today as I'm finishing work at 1pm, going to a shop which is "not just any shop" to buy provision for our house sitter and then we're off for 6 nights to Blair Atholl in the caravan, taking in the horse trials over the weekend, really looking forward to the break.

My uncle used to have a gong in his hall and I can remember as a child, it was such a thrill to bang?? it, my brother and I loved it.

    Have a good day everyone.

To gong or not to gong!

Whenever I think of a gong I think of that man Chrissie it was Rank and he use to wear his leather loincloth with his bronzed skin with his big beater banging his gong. Ahhhhh the good ole days, I cant remember the last time I went to the piccies. My main problem is I cant sit still long enough.

Glad to see the cake went down well Birthday Deevs, VA, Cake making and Nutirition. Crikey is there anything you can't do.

Back to the grindstone, well the kettle actually need a cuppa to carry on this afternoon of drudgery.

Missed all the gong stuff and miss your Friday guests too, as all this happens after my work start time of 8 o'clock :-(
I believe the correct phrase for those unfortunate people who used to shovel out the open "toilets" in medieaval (I know I have spelt that wrong!) times was gong farmers!

Thank you Chrisoff for a fab start to the day with all that gonging!!! You maybe counting the days to DT but I am counting the minutes, I do hope we get a gong to herald the arrival of the great man himself on Friday!!

The gong at the start of the Rank films is actually made of papier mache.

A bloke in a pub once told me that he knew for a fact that some people make gongs from live tortoises!

As for the past posts and those terrible jokes - dear oh dear oh dear ;)

I am back from my lunch, and most enjoyable it was too.

In my work post this morning I received a letter from a Colonel inviting me to an Army presentation. I am invited as an influential figure within the community...ha ha! Now do I go, because I may get my wish and take home a nice hunky man in uniform ;) It does say I can take a guest!

  • Comment number 23.

    Ali.

Of course you must go to the Army presentation. I reckon that your comment the other day about taking home a nice hunky man in uniform from the MOD bargain basement sale was a premonition. Go for it!

  • Comment number 30.

Deev - dont blame me for our card - mr bp picked it!

    mSc - 'Bong' guy???

  • Comment number 31.

LOL Sezza - and yes Scoobydoobydoobydoo I can answer that ....

When you eat a big meal, your stomach (which is like an elasticated bag) stretches to accommodate the food as you ingest and digest it. The stomach is the first "port of call" once we have chewed and swallowed our food. As it's digested and broken down and sent on the next part of its journey (to the intestines) the stomach remains in its stretched condition for a while, gradually reducing back to its normal size. It's when the stomach is in its stretched state that the brain thinks the stomach is empty (gastric juices may also still be looking for something to work on at this stage) so you feel "hungry".

Try drinking a large glass of water too - dehydration can often manifest itself in the form of hunger pangs.

See - not so ditsy after all!

Well done JG - fantastic news!

    Deevs
    x

ps: still want that slab of cake ...!?!? xx

  • Comment number 32.

deev - thats why when you diet you have hunger pains for a week and then your stomach shinks so you get full on less and can just eat less - yay ;-)

  • Comment number 33.

CLP, loved today鈥檚 show, I also want a gong.

Would quite like the bongman from the Rank films as well, just to bong the gong, you understand.

David Tennant? I can take or leave him, but will, of course, listen in as always.

AliB, or course you must go.

    JG, Congrats, very well done.

    Deevs, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!xx

    Scoobs, yes, definitely listen again.

    Hello to everyone else.

    Pen xx

  • Comment number 34.

    Afternoon all

Scoobs - I do know the group to which you refer and very nice it is usually - lucky you!

Deev's - all that course work is clearly paying off!

I assume that works in reverse for the stomach as well, as someone who has been know to partake in 'eat all you can' buffets at various establishments, I've noticed that those who haven't eaten all day before going can't manage to get their money's worth compared to those who have! (no names etc etc)

JG - congrats on the new job, definitely shows you made the right choice.

    Cheers

  • Comment number 35.

Thanks guys..and Deevs you is a very clever bunny. But of COURSE i still want cake...!

And Andy, despite the last letter being a H and not a G well done! Our lovely, lovely neighbours actually gave us some vouchers for there not so long back so it was a cheap night out too... was bl**dy lovely!

And Baagy - well done on the `deliberate` mistake... of COURSE i mean Gongs not Bongs... *slips away quietly thinking she may have got away with it....*

Whoop Whoop! An hour later and the greyness of barnetsville has been replaced by a rich, dark, chocolate brown. And the best bit .... I don't havebrown ears or a brown forehead (unlike when I have it done at a salon!)

A lot messier doing it at home but a lot cheaper, and if I say so myself, rather chuffed with the result.

    Result!

Just to say, this afternoon I had to deliver a package to George Square, which is where the Brad Pitt movie will be filmed. No filming started yet, but all the street signs have been changed, yellow traffic lights hanging from the street lights, and loads of Philadelphia and New Jersey Police cars everywhere! Really very exciting.

And, yes, loads of people who look as though they will be ideal for the Zombie movie ... including me!

Just hope he gives a reference as good as that!

As I say, I'm not proud of the way I went about it, but any extra stress is not good for me right now, so opted for the easy option....

I mus admit to feeling very relieved, happy and excited by this new role, plus it's across the road, almost, from where I used to work, so will be able to meet up with old friends and not feel quite as isolated as I did at the other place....

Happy birthday Ali (and belated birthday Deevs) :)

I'm preparing to venture off to unknown territories (well, unknown to me anyway, they feature on those things known as maps), and am just having a last minute peer at the map before packing the car and heading off. Can't decide which of two routes to go for, so I think (for once) I might let the sat nav decide. Not often I do that, I usually have a route firmly in mind and ignore the sat nav until it agrees with my plan.

Enjoy your last day Baggy and if you feel like giving in and having a cake, throw it my way :) I haven't quite decided what to do about lunch yet and need to eat before I arrive...

Cheryl: lovely to hear how spoiled you were for your birthday - it's great to be spoiled! Not so good about your back. Are you for acupuncture? I know you and I usually swear by it - do you think it would help?

Annie: re the Brad Pitt movie. I have heard various stories: one of which is that our fantastic and incredible Glasgow architecture looks exactly how Philadelphia used to look, before they tore down their beautiful buildings. One of the other theories is that it is not costing too much for BP to film in Glasgow. It's probably for another reason altogether!

    afternoon peeps

Happy Birthday, AliB - have a lovely day

Happy Last Day, Baggy - also have a good day

Chrissie - stop stalking BP around the streets of Glasgee!
Annie - don't you be heading there either - you have a man in a cupboard!

Apart from Deevs and her troublesome back, I hope you are all having a good day.

Lunch today is rather boring - cheese and lettuce sandwich, spiced up with a bag of cheesy wotsits (classy, eh?)

    ttfn, Crumpy xx

Oh yes - just mentioned 'next door' -

Been saving it for a rainy day - the hardback - so am pleased to announce that I have finally indulged myself with the complete Fruitcake - took me about 10 hours in two sessions cover-to-cover.

    Makes me feel :`(
    and yet :oD

Just the way it should do.

Thanks KatyMac for the delicious cakes :) xxx They look scrummy. I've got a tin of oat and rasin cookies (homemade) here, but no one to share them with. Nobody is in the office this afternoon, oh well, all the more for me ;)

Baggy, Enjoy your last day xx

Thanks again for the birthday wishes here and on FB. It's quite overwhelming.

    AliB
