Hello all, I'm back in Norfolk after a trip to Weston-Super-Mare. Have been lurking & taking notice of Bingo's comments - Mr CG often does European HGV stuff, so he always drums into me the importance of 'awareness' when on the road. I cannot give enough praise to the IAM advanced driving test - everyone should do it.
I may not drive slower now, but I sure am safer.

So, how's the rest of you then? Lovely to see a new arrival - many congratulations to the whole family, and birthday greetings to Cathmel.

Weather been lovely in Norfolk today, and so mild.......... may it stay that way until C (won't even mention it until December!!)

Hi Chris: really looking forward to the documentary tomorrow night, thanks for letting us know. I wrote to Jim'll Fix It once, during my "I love Noel Edmonds" period in life. I tried to wrangle a trip to the studio of Swap Shop, and put forward a good case as to why I would be a help to Noel, even for just one day ... never heard a word back! Hey Ho!

I'll be watching the Jimmy Saville documentary Chris. He has been a big part of my life from the early Top Of The Pops when my parents used to shout 'stop that noise' but they liked him too, it was his eccentrity, through Jim'll Fix It and the latter Top Of The Pops. Not forgetting all the other things he did. He was a good man and did so much for charity, hospitals, etc.

I don't know why but people (especially the press) always need to look for unkind things to say about clean living people like Jimmy, Cliff, etc.

I've hopefully set a new project on the go at work today. Parking is a big issue as most of our sites were built before everyone had at least one car but I think I've found a way of putting in some more spaces! Fingers crossed for us!

Jim'll fix it was compulsory viewing when I was younger, and I got older I appreciated Jim for for eccentric English gent that he was! I don't think the younger generations (god I sound old) have anyone like that anymore - it's all bright and cheery interchangeable personalities on kids TV!

Thanks for the driving info Bingo. I agree that we should all travel by train but it's so expensive. I have to travel all over the place but it's always first thing in the morning and it can cost hundreds, literally. It's cheaper to fly to somewhere like Manchester. 100% TRUE, Bingo!

You can't knock Sir Jim in my book. He did a huge amount for the hospitals in Leeds and I think they're opening a new heart unit with the money that he's left them. Also, that boy scout eating his packed lunch on the roller coaster on Jim'll Fix It was a bloomin classic.

I agree that Jim'll was a legend. I too grew up with Jim'll Fix It on Saturday nights - it was funny, poignant, clever, generous and required viewing. I also remember his appearances on TOTP with fondness.

CLP - Yes Sir Jimmy Saville was a great man!!!!!!!

One of my favourite celebs from any early age.... In fact a think 'e did play a samll part in the slight comedian streak a ave in me!!!!!!
A loved watching 'is Jim'll Fix It Show!!!!!!
Although a was too shy ter right in!!!!!
My dream that a would ave wanted Jim ter fix for me was ter ride in the cab of a 'igh speed train/ and or drive it.... And a noticed 'e did actually fix it for another boy ter do just this!!!!!!

Jimmy Saville was like an eccentric grandad that yer would lidten ter every word 'e said on Jim'll Fix It!!!!!
With 'is big arm chair complete with electric doors on eitherside.... A pess of a button and out would come a cigar.... And a letter.... then it was "now then, now then!!!!!!" and we would intently all listen ter what the letter read!!!!!!!!
'e was almost like Santa without the red suit & white beard!!!!!!!!

And as for Top Of The Pops.... 'e was my favourite on that show as 'is comedic delivery & loud track suits.... All very funny ter watch!!!!!!!

A remember the Superman suit 'e wore about ten years back..... Thay suit was made out of the VERY same Superman curtains I 'ad in my bedroom for over 10 years of my childhood.... Many a time I lay in bed looking at the action pattern on me Superman curtains.... And then years later outy steps Sir Jimmy wearing me curtains!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And that fact 'e ran over a 'undred marathons & raised something like 40 million quid for charity.... This man was the exact opposite of a politician!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
'e was also a church going man.... something a feel strongly about does seem ter instill a goodness in people!!!!!!!!

It's very sad ter think there could not be another Jimmy terdee.... Imagine all the PC brigade going mad over a man smoking on children's tv!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A remember somebody, a think it was an MP, was saying recently that travelling by train has become a rich persons past time!!!!!!!
A agree travelling from Manchester or Liverpool to London in the morning peak hours.... It full of business people and 'igh income earners as it costs a couple of 'undred pounds if yer buy yer ticket on the day first class!!!!!!
The railway use the excuse that peak trains are busy so they are trying ter reduce over crowding by raising the fares at these times!!!!!!!
A agree ter a point but there seems ter be a lot of companies don't seem ter mind paying for their employees ter cliam MEGA travel expenses!!!!!!
And 70 quid return second whooops no offence mean't (standard class) (they changed the name ter standard so as ter be PC and not cause offence)... (What does cause offence ter me is the 'igh prices unless yer book 3 months in advance for the EXACT time & date of travel!!!!!)

I have passed the site of the dreadful accident, several times this week, a lot of floral tributes on the motorway bridge just beyond. Terribly sad, to think of such a loss of lives. Apparently there have been a lot of donations from people. Something that I think that the decent people of this country are good at.

The most incredibly bright moon tonight, its lighting up the whole of the bay. Still very mild too, no need for long sleeves yet.

Gail, totally agree about the moon, the last two nights it has been stunning. I look at the moon every night out of my bedroom window before I go to sleep, may be I'm just checking it's still there. Wherever I am in the world I know that my family are looking at the same moon and it makes me feel safe and loved, soppy old fool that I am! xx

A very rare day in the office allows me to join you fine fellows today.

Chris, I tweeted something very similar about Sir Jimmy.
People have always alluded to 'stuff' but I've never heard a single accusation.
Surely it's time to put up or shut up, so that the great work he did throughout the whole of his life can be celebrated without this sniping.
Living around the corner from Stoke Mandeville Hospital and having been there for the birth of my two children. You can see and feel all of the work he did as you wander around it. He was a good man.

Speaking of babies; congratulations to Pip and her family. Wonderful news x

Mornin' all.

Well, I'm wearing my poppy today and just before 11am I found what I thought was a quiet place on campus where I could observe the two minute silence. Unfortunately, the 40 or so students and tutors who trundled past, chattering and laughing, didn't have the same thought. I was SO cross and bellowed "SHHHHHHHHH" at them!! Happily it had the desired effect, and I managed at least one quiet minute ......... I'm going to suggest to the powers that be that next year they ring the fire alarm just before 11am and again two minutes later - no-one will be able to ignore that, surely?

I too watched the beautiful moon last night from the beach (briefly!) ... it was stunning.

Good for you Jillygoat. I'd have been furious as well. I was waiting to go into court for a quick hearing at 11am and we had two minutes' silence. Everyone stood, and everyone stayed quiet. I always find it very moving.

How fabulous was Sir Bruce this morning? I really loved the parts of the show that I heard. I was with my sister last Saturday and we were remembering that she sent a funny looking carrot into the Generation Game once - Bruce showed it and read out her letter. The carrot had two skinny 'legs' and my sister said how it reminded her of Bruce in tights when he dressed up for the show at the end. Anyway, as we were working out that this was thirty-five years ago, Bruce came on the telly presenting Strictly. What a career.

Pen-I don't have to ask about the gap in the curtains. I used to open my bedroom curtains after putting out the light until they went and built apartments opposite surrounded by night lighting. It lights up my room so now I leave a small gap. I can no longer look at the moon:(

We observed the silence in our office; unfortunately the bloke in the office next door to us, who isn't of English decent didn't he was chatting away on his phone.....grrrr. We also heard two loud bangs from the local Fort at the beginning and end of the two minutes, that was quite moving.

Rips, It is a treat to read you, although you do keep me amused on Twitter with your observations! :)

I forgot about Chris's original blog on Sir Jimmy. I too loved Jim'll fix it and when Chris played the theme tune the other morning I found that I remembered all the words. He truly was a Legend.

Nearly lunchtime...phew.

I'm off out to dinner tonight to help my friend celebrate her 70th Birthday. A joint friend of ours is cooking, and she is a fa-u-lous cook - can't wait.

I cannot sleep unless the window is open, even in the midst of winter, I just get all bunged up. To benefit from this I also have an ickle break in the curtains, in order to get some air. Mr PF, on the other hand, doesn’t always agree, especially if it’s really cold outside, and I might add, he does sleep the window side. His answer to this is we swop sides. Simple you might think, but no, it’s not, as I can only sleep on his left. And so it goes on, but thankfully he is very understanding.

You did ask, hahahaha

Marji, what a b****r. We are fortunate to have a field outside our window, god forbid if they build on it!

we have no curtains, so watch the weather and the moon, cloud cover permitting, everynight. lovely.
one night both mr djeli and I were awake at oh my goodness oclock and we saw the biggest brightest star we had ever seen.
i called the star gazing club the next morning to ask what it was and were told it was saturn. so the next night we got out the binoculars to have a look.

I will add that my bedroom is at the back of the house looking out to fields. !!

We live in the country and used to leave the bedroom curtains open, then I saw an article saying that if you do that you don't sleep as well because the light streaming in wakes you up very early, so we started closing the curtains and I have to say, we both do sleep more soundly now.

Pen: great explanation - the joys of cohabitating! My "thing" is that I must have a glass of water at my bedside every night, which MrS very kindly ensures is there. I never drink it of course, but the one night that he might forget, is the very night I will be "dying of thirst"!

Bedroom windows open all year round but curtains shut as it would be unfair on the neighbours otherwise!

A lovely 2 minutes silence here this morning. Work opposite one of the few remaining operational mansion houses in the country and there is always a service on the steps with a bugler and such. Pretty much everyone came out of the surrounding shops, the traffic was halted and all the town seemed to stop which was a testament to the towns folk as its not the best area in the country and gets quite a lot of bad press. Made me quite proud today.

To all looking for baby pics..sorry! The pic is on Mr Pips FB page not Pips herself...doh! But they are going home today so I`m sure some photos will appear soon... take it from me though, he is absolutely gorgeous and I`m aiming to get to meet him soon!

One week today some of us shall be hoarse right.about.now! So sorry not everyone can make it...but will speak on the dog n bone!

Afternoon all

Observed the 2 minute silence, had a great email from a colleague sent round to everyone saying he would be observing the 2 minute silence and would respect others to respect him by keeping all forms of communication from him during that period. So I piggy backed it and sent round to everyone stating "a moment out of a busy day to respect those who lost their lives fighting for us was fair". Majority did but you always get someone who decides to ring you at that precise moment. I put it down to forgetfulness rather then ignorance.

Anyway, have you been listening to Jeremys "The Songs my Son Loved". Every day this week I have been left a blubbering wreck, songs that mean something to me have come up too and I felt myself catch my breath a couple of times and stare out of the window to stop me crying. Those poor families, firends and mothers they were in my thoughts today too.

Congrats on the new little life that has been celebrated on the blog. Well done Pips and Mr Pips of course.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I am sure you will all be completely CIN mad as the week progresses.
