CarFest North...

Chris Evans | 10:29 UK time, Monday, 30 April 2012

Tis to a castle we shall travel. I have visions of pointy flags and fair maidens in amongst our rock and roll and the smell of petrol and burning rubber. Cholmondley is where we're off to. The kind of castle Hollywood would die for. Designed in The Picturesque (officially a period of art and design - I had no idea !) it sits atop its own hill proud but not overbearing as some castles might be. It has a beautiful lake, the perfect road for a hill sprint and ideal landscaping to create many natural vantage points for perfect viewing of both the bands and the many cars that will be in action.

Another date for which we cannot wait. And those dates are Sat/Sun 8th and 9th September. Lovely ! Tickets go on sale this Friday from 8 a.m. via the bbc.co.uk/pudsey website. All CarFest profits go to Children In Need. Hurrah !!!

Peace and Love

Thanks for bringing CarFest to the North, I had no idea such a lovely castle was only an hours' drive from my home, if I don't get tickets for CarFest North I shall definitely be visiting this castle, good job I'm not at work on Friday; can dedicate my time to ticket buying. . . . Yippee

Ah Cholmondley, pronounced Chumley, if my memory serves me well?

We used to go fruit picking there and then come home and get the huge preserving pan on. Mmmmm the smell of sweet strawberries, bubbling away.

    Happy Days :)

Behold! Thou art a knight in shining armour Chris! Cholmondley! 'Tis most splendid!
    Perchance to meet!

    hi all

hope a good (if wet) weekend was had by all.

Just a quick comment - if anyone saw the one show on Thursday and saw Matt and Pudsey at a special needs creche - that is the one that MR bp volunteers at and that our friends chrildren went to - such a great cause.

Huzzah for Car Fest North and all the Fair Maidens and Gallant Knights (of the Road) who will be there!

Chris, hat's off to you for getting all this organised. Hope you've left enough time to sort out that nursery - getting close now!

For me, this has got to be a week of Sorting Things Out so if you can let me know your secret to getting it all done, I'd be grateful!

Insurances, registrations, cheques for boys holidays - not mine you note!

    S'pose I'd best look busy!

ps loved hearing Simon Calder as the 3 minute guest this morning - I'd love to hear him on a Friday!

    Afternoon All,

Chris, Well done on Carfest North, I am sure it will sell out as quickly as Carfest South. I love a castle and am fortunate enough to see one from my window :) If I stick my neck out far enough!

The sun is shining and the skies are blue, which makes a change from the weekend. I had a nice chillaxing weekend nothing wild or exciting. This coming Bank Holiday I am off to Lancs to visit friends and I can't wait.

I had my five minutes of fame this morning as I was interviewed on the Radio! Had to get up at 6:00 o'clock though. I've just plucked up the courage to listen online and it was OK. It was Radio Kent and I was talking about Foodbanks.....please make an orderly queue for my autograph ;)

    afternoon peeps
Cholmondeley is indeedy pretty close to home, and yes Sal it is pronounced Chumley.
If any 'petrol heads' can't get tickets for Carfest North, there is the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power on between 15th & 17th June. G***le it.

What a horrible Sunday it was yesterday. Torrential rain all day. I only went out side to pull some rhubarb for a crumble. Even the dog didn't want to go out - although she did get shooed out to do her 'business' - not a happy Honey. Can I teach an old dog to do a new trick? ie to use a litter tray??

    Happy Monday all :O)

Just realised CPOP clashes with Edinburgh blog-meet, so no good to me ticket-wise if carfest north doesn't pan out. Not that I am particularly a car-person, but would have gone for the day.

AliB - missed your comment re your moment of fame. It's really odd hearing yourself on the radio, isn't it. You sound so different to how you sound inside your head! I had the same feeling when I was on local radio here, Calon FM, talking about our last drama production.
Adam told me I sounded very Welsh and posher than normal!

  • Comment number 10.

Great stuff Chris! Have already booked digs in the event that I can get tickets, but Shrewsbury is surely not in the North. Call it Carfest middle!

  • Comment number 11.

Alan, welcome! As a Newcastle born and bred person I wholeheartedly agree with you - Northumberland/Cumbria would have been a bit more north and plenty of beautiful places where I am sure the event could have been held. Maybe next year?

    Love
Susan and trying not to sound too bitter, sorry xx

Hi Chris: fantastic news about CarFest North - oooh, I would love to be able to go, but alas, I cannot. It will be fantastic - and you are just a star for doing this for CiN. xx

Hi everyone: hope you are all well. Sorry that so many of you have had just awful weather - don't know how we have managed to escape most of it, but I am very grateful that we have. Mind you, it's VERY chilly here!

Nothing much to report ... it's Monday, it's been a long day so far, the usual whinge!

Hi I was surposed to recieve an email to swap my tickets for carfest north and the email hasnt arrived help what can I do ????

  • Comment number 14.

AliB - we are not worthy!!!!!!! Well done you - I must listen again to Radio Kent!

Thanks for my birthday wishes on fb - it was a quiet and mostly drenched day but that suited me fine. 'Im indoors took me out for lunch, which was deelishus.

Mum's been in the Rehabilitation Centre for two weeks now and will probably need to be there for a few more weeks yet. She fell over yesterday because she "didn't want to bother the nurses" and as a result has a lovely gash over one eye and of course it's now knocked her confidence, but other than that she is as well as can be expected.

The sun's shining now and I've just had a walk round the campus - shame it couldn't have been like this yesterday!

Chrissie - hasn't it been a long day so far? And there's still another four hours to go!!

Hope everyone is well and well done on Carfest north as well as south - CLP you are a star!

Afternoon from a very grey Edinburgh.

CarFest North sounds fab but it's a couple of hundred miles too far south for me!! but Cholmondeley Castle is on the list to visit the next time I'm back in the homeland.

Sezza I completely agree re Simon Calder, he was a top Mystery Guest! And I loved his comment that Scotland is the most beautiful country in the world (when the sun shines, which it did on Saturday!)

Off work this week, and in typical fashion I've woken up with a sniffle! It had better be gone by a week on Wednesday, which happens to be my birthday.

Chris CarFest North will be a fantastic event, Cholmondeley Castle is the perfect venue.
A warm and sunny day here in Cheshire today after yesterdays deluge. Apologies to those that still have the wind and the rain.

    me again:

AliB: how exciting for you to be on the radio! I would love to be able to do that, but I know for a fact I would chicken out!

Alan and Sue: welcome to the blog - it would be lovely if you would stick around, and join in.

Sezza: if you get yourself organised this week, I would be grateful if you let me know how to do it. I am as disorganised as someone who is completely disorganised!

Jillygoat: so sorry I missed your birthday - hope you had a lovely lunch with Mr JG. xx What a shame for your Mum, Jilly - she will have been quite shaken by that fall, bless her.

Tiggs: how could we forget you? Impossible! Nice to see you.

Yesterday, MrS and I went for a wee drive down the Ayrshire coast, and stopped off to have a look at our first house, bought when we were so young, it was ridiculous. I have said on the blog before, we bought that house because I really liked the wall light in the hall - totally and completely a nutter! (nothing changed there!).

Good grief, is it only 2.30? I must stop looking at the clock!

    C xx

    Afternoon all

not organised yet!!! Cup cakes made though!

Sue Ledden. Lovely to see you here but if you have a specific query about Carfest Tickets, I would go back toi your orginal contact - comfirmation email? and look for a direct contact as this blog is not checked by the officials who would know about such things! Hope you get it sorted x

    I'm in my PJs already!!!

Jillygoat, if you do listen again it's 1 hour 40 mins in, save you listening to the whole programme. Sorry to hear about your Mum, she really is having a tough time {{hugs}}} xx

Crumpy, Tis true it really didn't sound like me...lol xx

Sezza, If there's a cupcake going spare, chuck it my way xx

Tiggs, Glad everything is going well for you xx

It's been a really sunny day here today that when I got home I had to pull my curtains as I couldn't see the telly. I've just pulled them back and the balcony is wet, so I guess it must have rained again!

AliB and Chrissie - thank you x

AliB - I'll definitely have a listen and thanks for the timings. Like you, I'm now in my PJs. I've been shopping and had dinner and because it's so cold and wet here I just couldn't put off the PJs any longer - they were calling to me!! We know how to live don't we?!

  • Comment number 23.

I bow down I am not worthy to AliB.... good job

To Jilly sorry to hear your mum had a fall and I hope her confidence perks up soon.

To all car fest sounds really nice but I can't afford it this year so will have to give it a miss - until I change jobs and land a nice contract one in which case will have funds to travel.

Tiggs nice to spot your post - welcome back

So lances to the fore for tomorrow and I agree it was nice to hear Simon Calder as the mystery guest with his sleeping for nil in the hotel and barn.

The rain is coming down again and I feel for the people in Tewkesbury with water levels rising fast I am hoping that the RNLI Flood Rescue doesn't get called up to evacuate again.

Speaking of RNLI - it's lashing it down outside and our lifeboat has just been called out - poor crew.

  • Comment number 24.

PJs here too!!! I think we had our ration of sunshine this afternoon! T'was lovely but is pouring again now. :-(

Pheonix, Hope your lifeboat and their callers are all well

Hi. Can't wait for Carfest (South). Decided to cheat and book a Greenfields tent. Hoping not to have to take any food so praying Mr Evans is true to his word and makes sure plenty of pies are available.

Haven't booked a holiday this year - so this will be it!!!

Having been dragged out of deep flood water by the fire brigade and being hammered by such rigs, that are able to go through so freely, to name and shame...

Tescos, Griggs and Iceland. Sorry Bingo, not always that much fun for some of us.

Expect, that this will be modded, C'est la vie.

fantastic MrB will be thrilled if I can get him tickets, he will love me forever. For those of you further north, perhaps Castle Howard next year? Easy to get to from the M1, but enjoy this year first!

    Hello,
How do I enter my rare Classic Car into the show, or if I am able to persuade my club to enter for a club display, they have some stunningly rare vintage stuff? Please let me know, I'd like to support the event!!

    Hi Chris,

I'm immensely looking forward to carfest this year and it'll be a great day out for me and my family. I think i'll be attending on the 8th September.

Really glad to see any profits going to charity too. For those of you interested in more information on dates/tickets etc visit

The highlight will be Chris's magnificent 7 embarking on the hill climb.

For those of you interested in Chris's magnificent 7 i personally snapped them at Goodwood and what an immense collection of cars they are.

    See:

Anyway, roll on the visit to Cholmondeley Castle and congrats Chris for organising such a wonderful event. Food, music (texas & razor light - WOW) & cars - what more can anyone ask for?

  • Comment number 33.

Chris - I am one of the "Orange Brigade" - not hair colour but belonging to the "British Motorsports Marshals Club" - we are the guys and gals wearing orange overalls who look after the various motorsport events (including F1) most weekends of the "Summer".

CarFest North sounds great (and not far up the road for us)! Will you be requiring marshals and, if so, which Organising Club is doing the business?

If it just a "jamboree" without any "track action" is there any chance of getting some tickets which I could use to raise some funds for what we do, which is all voluntary? We always need money for training etc.

This note has been sent by myself and has no connection to BMMC.

  • Comment number 34.

...bit gutted this morning, tried several times to buy weekend camping tickets for the Carfest North, got through to the payment page and every time it said they were sold out before I could enter payment details which took no more than 20 seconds. Great event but not impressed with the IT. Anyway main reason for rant is that within 20 minutes there were the same tickets on Ebay for double the price, what a rip off!

  • Comment number 35.

Also gutted. Tried couple of weeks back for Car Fest South and then today for Car Fest North for family tickets. Every time, same as alekvos, got to payment page and entered details but then got no tickets available message! Happened about 5 times in total....

  • Comment number 36.

Please, Please, Please, can we have the Proclaimers at CarFest North on the Sunday night as well... We managed only to get tickets for the Sunday only, but as you have been playing their songs all week, it's only fitting they should perform both nights, it feels like CarFest won't be CarFest without them there!

  • Comment number 37.

Gutted..... was on the Carfest North site at 8.00 on a holding page to get tickets by 8.02 all the tickets had gone!!!! Are anymore going up for sale? Was going to buy Family Camping tickets for our wedding anniversary. Husband is gutted too.

  • Comment number 38.

I also had the same problems as Debbie, Marcus and Alekvos, until I got eventually some for the Sunday - luck more than anything. Having also checked out ebay I think it's disgraceful that some people managed to get 10 tickets for the day and sell them on for 拢180 each, let alone camping at 拢449 for 2 persons. This should really be looked at seriously, given that this is supposed to be raising money for charity!

  • Comment number 39.

This morning waiting for the lines to open for Carfest North and to get a family ticket was worse than waiting to find out whether I had, had a boy or girl when I gave birth! Please to say got the ticket cannot wait to join everyone for a fantabulous weekend, long may the sun shine and Chris Evans & Co be in our lives to make them a much happier place, here here!!!! Anne in Manchester

  • Comment number 40.

FAb! Not only have tickets for Carfest North but it's on my school's doorstep... the children are already becoming aware and we are hoping as a local school we can become involved :-)

  • Comment number 41.

As a family really wanting to go, was on the website as all went live. Tried several times to get tickets, got through to the logging you tickets page which gave the impression you were about to purchase, only to be thrown back out every time due to traffic - not good!. Find it disgusting that the 大象传媒 then let these charity tickets be sold on Ebay for 3 times the amount. Thought the whole point was to make them available to families who cannot afford many pennies, but tickets are being sold here for upwards of 拢400 for a family camping ticket, which if we had not kept being thrown out we could have purchased for 拢170. Not good Mr Evans!

  • Comment number 42.

Boohooohooo!! if you managed to get tickets for carfest you are sooo lucky!!
My friend and i both tried for camping tickets as soon as the sale started but no luck, and couldn't even get day tickets : ( we REALLY want to go as are both music and car mad! is there any way we can get/win tickets now there are none left, as we are both single hard working ladies and can't afford extortionate prices of ones being sold by people who bought them but don't even want to go!) : ) xx

  • Comment number 43.

pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssssssssssssssse my little ginger friend, are there any tickets for carfest north i can buy at a reasonable price?? :) xx

  • Comment number 44.

2 fair maidens wanting to ROCK + ROLL at the castle and see those gorgeous 'chariots' firing up - but need 2 tickets!! :) xx

  • Comment number 45.

C`mon Chris sort us out mate and all us other car mad loonies with tickets ,other than buying them off a certain site for god knows how much (拢5000 for a camping weekend ticket) ?
i sat @ 8.00am hitting that button until 8.20 lost an hours pay from work and to round it off had to stay 1hr late only thinking about my rubbish day !
i reckon i shall just have to wait outside the castle gates checking out the cars and hopefully some knights will catapult me the other 1/2 and my lad over !

  • Comment number 46.

where can i buy 2 tickets for the carfest? i would really like to go with my girlfriend

  • Comment number 47.

Hi all, I would like to swap two Saturday Carfest North tickets for Carfes South. Anyone interested. Chris could I ask for there to be some facility to swap tickets as people are bound to find that due to a change in circumstances they need to swap and Carfest are unable to facilitate this.

    Cheers Jane
