Heavy legs eagerly await the holidays

Only one game to go until the end of the season and I, for one, am definitely looking forward to my holidays.

I'm hoping it's not just my age, but I've found the last few months a right hard slog. For the last wee while, we've been playing three games every week, whether it's been in the or reserve league. The games finally caught up with me at on Saturday and I felt I really struggled with the game in a physical sense.

; one fresh-air swipe and a misplaced pass straight out the park aside, I thought I did ok! I just felt pretty exhausted and heavy legged throughout.

When I spoke to , our manager, after the game, he mentioned he thought I was going to have a couple of shots at different points of the game but I chose a different option. He was right and I felt little things like that happened over the course of the game because my legs were tired.

I played for the reserves up at on the Tuesday night and that game was also on an artificial surface. As much as I enjoy that type of surface and think it encourages good football, I still think it takes a lot more out of your body than grass does.

Our defeat to on Saturday means that we can't finish any higher than and also means we can't better our points tally from our debut season.

It ended up being a disappointing day for us, even after we had made a bright start. I think the manager has already said that he feels we have had a disappointing season and I couldn't agree more, as I'm sure the rest of the players will.

We have been far too inconsistent and have let ourselves down playing against the teams round about us in the league. We have also yet to win a midweek league fixture since entering the league and, with all the postponements this season, that's cost us a right good few points.

So we're heading in to our last game of the campaign sitting in eighth position after on Tuesday night. Their win means they have leapfrogged us with one game to play, so we need to do our job against and hope do us a favour so we can at least match our league position from last year.

It's set up for a cracking finish for that final play-off spot and it's just a shame we have shot ourselves in the foot a few times to count us out of the running. Our opponents, Berwick, are still in with an outside chance but require a five-goal swing to go their way, so for me it's down to and Albion Rovers.

I said last week that the top four would finish as they were and I'm sticking by my prediction. Rovers need a victory to give them any chance and I think they will get that at home to , or maybe I'm just hoping for our sake.

That leaves Queen's Park travelling to face in a game they will also have to win to guarantee that fourth spot. With Forfar and East Stirlingshire confirmed to be facing each other in the semi-final, there's nothing really at stake for either club this weekend. This will give Forfar a chance to rest some important players and might mean they take their eye off the ball slightly. I'd imagine will have them fired up to finish second, but I'll still take Queen's Park to sneak it.

Whoever makes it to the semi-finals, I'm confident it will be a Third Division side joining in the Second Division next season, but just don't ask me who.

We've usually got our end-of-season awards to look forward to after the final game of the season, but the club have changed things around this year and the awards will be presented on the pitch after the game.

Never mind, we still have a party to attend in for 21st. A few of us are heading up to Broadwood to celebrate with Scotty and it will be good to have a wee look at a ground we will be visiting again next season.

It was confirmed on Tuesday night that we have finished top of our reserve section after a 5-1 defeat of East Stirlingshire. Scotty knocked in a couple of goals on his birthday, so he's bound to be in good spirits when the boys come up at the weekend. All the best Anson.

    Hi Chris,

Been following your blog for a bit now.

I was covering the East Stirling v Annan game at the weekend.

Thought you had a decent game, but I could see you smirking when Gilifillan was getting the ''are you Winters in disguise'' chant near the end. :)

Annan opened well, but that seven minute salvo knocked the stuffing out of the side.

Good luck with the new contract and I'll prob see you at Galabank sometime during the pre-season.

    Cheers,
    TDT

"Whoever makes it to the semi-finals, I'm confident it will be a Third Division side joining Livingston in the Second Division next season, but just don't ask me who."

You have just alienated the support of three different Division 2 sides!

    Great Blog Chris J . . . .

The Dirty Tackle - that's a fair comment regarding the game and you're right I was having a wee chuckle when the crowd were singing that - not enough humour in the game anymore unfortuanately!

Rabster - fair enough comment I suppose, but I stand by what I said.

U14443619 - much appreciated, I'll try and keep up the good work!
